Nice job

Can we get some DUB's on it?!

honestly though I like A

kenney001
June 23rd, 2008, 12:28 PM
What are you using to make it? It almost looks like nurbs because of the folding around detailed areas...

I know you are no-where near finished, but it needs some work around the tail-lights.

1000x better than the others.

kenney001:
i am using polygons and yes i no bout the rear light im gonna sort that out next but im concentrating on the front wheel arch
And alson using autodesk maya if anyone would like to know

killer9856:
Whats DUB's (im new to modeling *ish anyways lol*)
I like A aswell but its got way to many verts with the extra logos but ill see what i can do and lower the vert count

and plus they will take ages to do because of the bolts around the inner edge

lol yeah.

You know what, I should try and model that alloy...

yeah lol and send it me :D for my audi :D if ya want lol

because to be honest i dont think iv got the patience to do another alloy lol

or unless we have a little competion :p lol would be ace, infact forget about that  im to busy on my audi lol

nick3d
June 23rd, 2008, 02:11 PM
Probably not for you but im newish to modeling and that looks like a task and half

Con
June 23rd, 2008, 02:15 PM
If you can put 6 Audi logos around your rim then you can put those bolts around that edge.

nick3d
June 23rd, 2008, 02:24 PM
alls i did was get my logo from the front and make it smaller then rotated it on and then just dotted them into place

edit: and then combined them all

rossmum
June 23rd, 2008, 02:34 PM
It's the exact same process with the bolts...?

Con
June 23rd, 2008, 02:43 PM
No, that would make too much sense Ross.

nick3d
June 23rd, 2008, 02:49 PM
well ill have a go another time at the moment im trying to solve these stupid problems on this thing lol ive just got the front wheel arch more tidy because it was horrible lol and plus its more round now

nick3d
June 23rd, 2008, 03:37 PM
ive lowered the verts on my alloy wheel and it is still 1 3rd of the total amount of verts :S whys that. Its really confused me lol. and good job this isnt going in a game or anything because the poly count is REALLY high and i mean high high its around 147,000 verts when smoothed and i think thats all i can do unless i take the smoothness down a bit

nick3d
June 23rd, 2008, 03:48 PM
Right this is my tidy up of the front wheel arch

How are you smoothing it? MeshSmooth?

nick3d
June 24th, 2008, 08:13 AM
no i am just using the smoothing tool when i press 2 or 3 on my keyboard it automatically smoothes it for me so i can see what it'll look like when smoothed unfortunately the last 2 images are going have to be dismissed because my computer crashed whilst finishing off :(

Hunter
June 24th, 2008, 08:54 AM
Well. Don't. Its smoothing things that aint men't to be smoothed. Use smoothing groups.

He's using NURBS surfaces. In maya, 1, 2 and 3 represent the level of smoothing you can preview a NURBS surface at.

Martyn! You model your way and i'll model mine okay i feel comfortable when modeling like how i am so leave me to it okay!

Edit: Everyone else thinks it looks alright and yeah the bottom half of my bumper doesn't look right thats because I haven't finished it yet.

Edit: And plus when i do guns i don't smooth because it is mostly flat so no need but because im doing a car, if i didn't smooth then things won't look right.

Edit: And i don't even know how to do smoothing groups, or no what they are, don't forget im new to modeling

you'll have to excuse thar hunterfag, he's a bit of the town retard around here,

it's a decent model, with it's goods and bads, there's some parts that aren't curvature continous when they should be, and there's some parts that could use some extra control verts to get those hard(er) edges more pronounced.

i don't know why you're doing the headlights the way you are, but if i were you, which im not, i'd just make the headlight covers seperate surfaces, so you can manipulate is easier, and you don't have to worry about breking continuity on the rest of your car when changing it around. plus, headlights aren't inset like that :P

your curves in general could be smoother, and more continuous, they're a bit "bumpy" so to speak.

i think you're not very experienced in NURBS, because you don't seem to know how to make harder edges, taking your rims as an example.
you can add in a CV, and move it on top of an existing CV, do this on both sides of "the existing CV", and you've got yourself a hard edge. i have to admit i forgot the keys and commands to maya nurbs, so forgive me for not going into more detail.

tl;dr: looks good, needs work, curves need to be smoother, and learn 2 hard edge, and hunter needs to shut his 8-year old mouth.

nick3d
June 24th, 2008, 04:23 PM
Well considering that I have only been modeling for a couple of months its a half decent model lol.

My biggest problem is, is that I don't no when to start a new plane, you see the whole model except for the wheel (ofcourse silly) is 1 plane so really I should do each panel seperate instead of putting a little indent between them.

To be honest I don't no what your on about when you say "CV" lol but i'll look it up on the internet in a bit because at the moment I haven't got my model open.

Do you think I should start agen??

Ohh and I was wondering if someone (with plenty of experience) could do me a favour it only involves saving a picture and then colouring in different colours for each new plane I should start, the blueprint will be at the bottom.

And hunter he's a mate of mine from school he was the one who recomended me to this site in the first place (but he constantly moans at me lol because I don't really know that much about modeling)

And I think this is 1 of the things he cant do, which i can do, modeling a car from what i know off. I'm not sure lol

a good guideline you could follow for seperate surfaces, it to look at the car's panels. make each panel a seperate surface

you can make a far larger surface like you're doing now to get good surface continuity, and cut it up, i dont remeber the term maya used for it.

where one body panel ends, you should end your surface, and curve it in with a sharp-ish edge, so you can see the seams between the panels, and not have them just be a gap at the same time.

with CV's i mean control vertices, they're the points your NURBS curves flow around.
oh, and go find a new friend, round 'dese parts ye don' want ta be associated with that fella'

nick3d
June 25th, 2008, 01:40 PM
Well I think I might start again because the bonnet has got far to many faces which don't need to be there they are there because of the whole thing being a continuos plane so when i need extra edges i put a edge loop in which has been making them creases every where because i use them to sharpen up my edges.

I'v learnt what i have off a website called 3dbuzz and used 1 of there tutorials (star wars phaser) http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_home.php?v=0
But the forums on there are crap they never get back to you and look at what you have done and they dont help you out that much.
im quiet glad im "still" a member of this because i get some decent help of people and honest opinions which i quiet like :D thanks guys

Also Nick, you might wanna watch this tweekprick. He's a good modeller and everything, but he is a bit of a prick. Hold on, let me change that, he is a BIG prick.

He also does not know how old I am so he should stop right there before he makes a fool of him self.

I also know Nick from school, I am the person who introduced him to modelling. That is the reason I talk to him like that, Tweek. The problem with you is.. well....
1. Your a dick.
2. You treat a lot of people like shit.
3. You know fuck all about me, so you can't really call me 8...
4. Plenty more I could think of but i really Can't be arsed with dicks like you.

In other words Tweek. Do one, and learn something about the people you are insulting for no valid reason...

Tweek
June 26th, 2008, 05:19 AM
can't be arsed taking note of posts by mentally incapacitated mongloids like you.
keep in mind i'm superior to you in every single way, don't forget it.
i point you to my sig as proof of these concepts.

also, i'm only a prick towards people who have deserved such treatment, most commonly due to mental incapability, general retardedness, hippocricy, and 8-year old-ism. i dont treat alot of people like shit, i treat YOU like shit, because that's what you are, and nothing more.

tl;dr: shut your mouth child!

I onli take proper advice which will help me out in 3d modeling, you help me out some of the time because you told me 2 start plane modeling and you taught me how to do it. So i listen to the advice i find will help me which doesnt mean not listening to you because ill listen to everyone and ill decide then but the only thing you keep on at me about is

Well. Don't. Its smoothing things that aint men't to be smoothed. Use smoothing groups.

about my smoothing

legionaire45
July 3rd, 2008, 12:52 AM
My advice: Work on your spelling and grammar.

The car looks decent I guess. I've never modeling one so I can't say much else about it. It has some smoothing issues and some of the symmetry looks weird (the little insets at the seam) but other then that nothing else looks remarkable.

Listen to Tweek's modeling advice, he knows what he is talking about.

I'd have to agree on the Audi looking better, that thread isn't really all that helpful since he's using NURBS and is in Maya. I use Max and polygon modelling oh and the like 3/4 of that thread is flaming and trolling lol.
