yeah, go ahead. I don't mind if anyone uses the concept or the model once I'm done with it.

It would look better with a hatch and machine gun in my opinion.

The body shape is awesome though.

Con
August 8th, 2008, 11:51 PM
I'm going to change the gun a bit. I'm not happy with it. The hatch on the side I might make bigger; troops should be able to get out fast. The back has no room for a hatch since it's a cargo storage area.

Boba
August 9th, 2008, 12:22 AM
Instead of the little hatch on the side, why don't you make the whole front fold down?

Mass
August 9th, 2008, 12:37 AM
I thought there was a door in the back...

SnaFuBAR
August 9th, 2008, 05:33 AM
Instead of the little hatch on the side, why don't you make the whole front fold down?

Looks more like an escape hatch for the driver. Also, a front opening apc is completely stupid. Your thickest armor is ALWAYS the front section of the vehicle. You meet the enemy head on with your thickest armor, letting troops out the back so that they're shielded on exit. Having the front open to enemy machine gun fire, grenades and rockets is probably the worst idea.

D-day boat transport flaw....

That's all I have to say.

Con
August 11th, 2008, 11:41 AM
I added a hatch on the side as far back as possible. I don't like it. I might have to just scrap the storage area and have the junk on the roof/tread covers.

Chainsy
August 11th, 2008, 11:47 AM
Why not just do like airplanes and have compartments in the top corners holding equipment? That or just make the apc a tad bit high and have a slim compartment located under them.

SnaFuBAR
August 11th, 2008, 11:50 AM
apc's usually (if not always) carry the extra gear externally on baskets, etc. http://www.southeasthobbies.com.au/catalogue/legends-productions/LF1104_1.jpg

Con
August 11th, 2008, 11:52 AM
Well I wanted a place to store large cargo and not just gear, but I think now that it's unnecessary as the APC should be just delivering troops and not supplies.

edit: Nice pic snaf, thanks.

Chainsy

"Well there goes my lunch, it fell off after that last frag assualt"
Why not kill 2 birds with one stone, and have the seats double as a storage compartments? Like theyre like benches and they fold up like lids and you put your neccesary gear in there. Though I dont really get why were talking on all this, as there is a poly limit, unless you have room to add these innovations.

Con
August 11th, 2008, 12:01 PM
I wasn't planning on modeling a full out interior. Just a hatch on the back seems enough for me.

No, I'm just winging it really.

looking good, plenty of tris to work with too

Con
August 12th, 2008, 04:16 PM
You'll notice the wheels are all simple 12-sided cylinders. I had some nicer wheels on there before, but they ate up my tri count. I figured the details could be better spent elsewhere.

i have to say, i don't really like it. I think it's just the outline of it- it just doesn't seem like a very interesting shape to me, from any angle.

Also, do you mind if I call you Connie from now on? I'm gonna do that. TTYL, Connie.

<3

Con
August 12th, 2008, 06:24 PM
yeah thats fine <3 It's too late to change the body shape now. I like it :meh:

Mass
August 12th, 2008, 06:38 PM
looked better in concept art, tbh.

I realize the problems:

The sides aren't slanted enough
The bottom is too high
the vertical side part above the tracks is too tall.

teh lag
August 12th, 2008, 06:43 PM
The thing that strikes me the most is that the treads seem thin compared to the body. Maybe extending them a bit will screw things up even more, but it's worth a shot imo.

Malloy
August 12th, 2008, 06:50 PM
i like it considering is resembles the origional concept clearly this would be my favourite model for the contest

Con
August 12th, 2008, 07:17 PM
I agree laggy, I'll extend them tomorrow when I add some other little details. I'm kinda tired of this for today. I found that covering up the big flat surfaces seems to help the shape a bit, I'm not sure how... it just makes it look less boring. Things left to do: Details on the gun turret, exterior wiring, something holding the shovel and gas tanks on, exterior storage compartments, handles for the hatches, maybe something else to fill the tri limit.

it's looking better now.
I agree with mass, it seems a bit too tall and square. idk how easy (or not) it would be to change that at this point.
e: actually, i think you should leave it.

SnaFuBAR

Adding just a simple box and bench interior would work nicely, and greatly improve your chances of winning the competition ;)

Con

orly? *adds to mental list* I suppose I do have plenty of tris left.

First test render, tried some GI and nice shadows. AA I can play with later. I think I'll give the GI a little more preference over the ray shadows though because it's about a 50/50 mix right now.

:O tbqh, I didn't really like this design when you first started modeling it. But the finished product looks great now that you added some more details. Great job.

Still needs moar AA.

It looks pretty good, the Antenna seems out of place right smack-dab in the middle of the side.

Rob Oplawar
August 14th, 2008, 11:16 AM
GI? Gastro-intestinal?

Hrg, it looks ok, but it really feels to me like it's missing something... I can't really put my finger on it... well, maybe once it's got a skin, with thick armor plates and rivets and bolts and welds; maybe that's what it's missing.

Global Illum ;p

I felt the antenna should be placed there to add some detail to that side of the vehicle.

Kalub
August 14th, 2008, 05:26 PM
The antenna is fine, if all else fails add another smaller one right infront of it

Con

I'm not doing anything with it, but people can PM me and I'll send them the model if they want it.

Suggestion: Perhaps there could be a ramp that slides out from under the seats? Looks like quite a ways from the ground to hop in.

Tbh i think you should use this as an idea, because i was gonna enter, but im no good at drawin 2d lol, but anyways, this is my idea for a door/ramp, it works and hears a demonstration,
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll208/fernn001/demonstration1.jpg
this is also what it will look like when its open,
http://i289.photobucket.com/albums/ll208/fernn001/demonstration2.jpg
it might not be a great deal of help considerin your model is finished,
best of luck in winning.

E:
Btw its rushed so dont take that im that crap at modelin lol, it was just to show you what i mean lol

Rob Oplawar
August 17th, 2008, 02:57 PM
needs moar skin. IMO it's not finished until it's skinned. Model looks good tho. Although I'm not going back on what I said earlier about it being missing something.

Dunno lol, but it can be adjusted, and it was rushed just show what i meant :| :P
Im sure you could have what are they called, what tanks have???? lol
Either way it was just a quick model, the door is all that i did at 1st, nd i did the rest of it in 5 minutes, just to show him what it can look like lol
