Here is a list of unallowed service tags extracted from the mainmenu.map of the retail halo 3. Lets try to find reasons why Bungie would not allow us to use some of these.

F49 = Fag
N19 = Nig
N84 = NBA
T17 = Tit
U50 = USO (Organiztation for US Troops)
V50 = VSO (Company)
Z17 = Zit

Most of them are "leet speak" spellings of abbreviations used for big companies, and due to legal rights, can't be used. That's just my guess.

I remember seeing someone with the tag W00. When I tried it the other day it was "reserved". What's so wrong about woo?

Eh, I chose S17 cause it's short for Spartan 117 and I was also born September 17th. Those blocked ones don't interest me...

I have n00, and i met this guy with z00 as his service tag
People start with random service tags and get things like that sometimes when they create their account, you have about a 1/2600 chance of getting a service tag thats blocked.

DEElekgolo

Lets recalculate the odds. 3 place holders 1 letter A-Z, A number 0-9, and another number 0-9. 26x9x9=468
so isnt that a 52/468 chance? Or am I using the wrong method.

Sever

0 through 9 != 9 digits, 0 through 9 = 10 digits. Also, 26 x 9 x 9 != 468, 26 x 9 x 2 = 468.

Stop failing at math.

Saying it twice does not make it cooler >_>

Saying what twice? You have confused me, please explain yourself.

Gamerkd16

you have about a 1/2600 chance of getting a service tag thats blocked.
I am curious as to where you get that figure.
26*10*10 = 2600 <<total combinations
52/2600 <<amount that isn't allowed
2/100 <<reduce fraction
1/50 <<chance of getting tag not allowed

Right?

No, the parrots above you. But I know it wasn't intentional.

:S Now Im confused to weather or not I was right, Would I be right though, as too get a specific service tag? say, E24, With only one option per, therefore 1/26 * 1/10 * 1/10 = 1/2600 Correct?

Sever
September 3rd, 2008, 07:13 PM
Yes, but it took you way too long to get to that conclusion.

To get a specific tag, yes it would 1/2600. But you said:

you have about a 1/2600 chance of getting a service tag thats blocked.There are 52 blocked ones. The chance would be 52/2600.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe that's correct.

If you simplify, its 1/50, so Yes, your correct :)

I didn't know there was that many unallowed service tags. I only thought there was about 3.
