Cant mod or use trainers

Is there something i need to instal or do before i use mods or trainers?Because i cant get ANY of them to work.I start them only when im in game just like the instructions say so.I looked everywhere i just cant get any of em to start.PLEASE help i tried 4 FOV/3rd person programs and none of them work.I tried on both windows XP and Vista both on SP and MP.PLease help me.

are you using the right version of the trainer (that corresponds to the version of Halo 2 you are playing)?
