Welp, this is a project I've been intending to do for quite a long time (try 2 years) and it's never taken shape because of a lack of motivation and laziness.

...Anyways. The project here is to re-make old Halo, Halo 2, and even Halo 3 multiplayer maps (and potentially singleplayer at some point, we'll see) in higher resolution modelling with better materials and lighting. A simple project, sure, but one that is quite enjoyable. I'm currently working on...I believe 11 different multiplayer maps, starting of with Chiron TL34.

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5007/more2.th.jpg (http://img11.imageshack.us/my.php?image=more2.jpg)http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2395/wireframeviewport.th.jpg (http://img19.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wireframeviewport.jpg)

The reason I chose this map as the first one is that, quite simply, it's an easy map to remake, and having a decent result will give me more motivation to finish the rest of the planned scenes (in no particular order)

1) Chiron TL34 (H1)
2) Last Resort (H3)
3) Lockout (H2)
4) Derelict (H1)
5) Prisoner (H1)
6) Turf (H2)
7) Ivory Tower (H2)
8) Epitaph (H3)
9) Wizard (H2)
10) Uplift (H2)
11) Elongation (H2)

I decided to create one topic for all of these instead of cluttering up the forums with 15 different topics, so all finals will be posted here, along with progress on current scenes. For now, I'm going to try to stick with just one at a time for simplicity's sake.

Reminder, this is for rendering purposes only.

E: I'm going to add this in preparation for what I'm sure is to come. I do NOT want to hear about inaccuracies in modelling, texturing, lighting...nothing. The objective here is to keep level layouts the same, while adjusting actual textures and whatnot based upon what I find appealing, or more realistic. So, none of this "There's supposed to be a light there." or "That's not what it was ingame." Please.

TBH, it really doesn't look all that different...how about instead of doing straight recreations of these maps but with texture detail modeled in you go ahead and actually recreate the map in a more realistic style? Look at what Bungie did to Cold Storage; they actually made it look like a believable arena whereas Chillout looked very boxy.

In particular? Maybe try adding in meshed catwalks where the boxy old ramps were. Model in a better looking ladder. Do stuff like that.

Hmmm, tis a good idea. I always did find it amusing how apparently the Halo universe never really required railings near steep drops. I'll see what I can do, but I can't guarantee that I'll do that with all the maps.

As for changing walkways and modelling better ladders and the like, that was the plan from the beginning, but I can see where you're going when it comes to bigger scale remakes.

E: Another possibility is to have multiple versions of maps. One version is styled in the classic way, close to how it was ingame, and the other could be more of an interpretation.

I suggest new theme and textures and models. But same basic layout.

Look up and you'll see that I already said that.

It'd be interesting to see Chiron in a space station of some sort, with a glass ceiling that gives a view of space. Or maybe something forerunner (Halo 3 style) , which would explain the teleporters.

This, but actually seperate the individual sections of the map. The original chiron only teleported you about a foot each time. The map had all the corresponding sections actually located near each other. This wouldn't be a problem, but your radar could still tell you where your enemies were, rendering the surprise factor of teleportation meaningless.

So this will be in the Halo engine?
