View Full Version : [Maps] So I made more maps

So over the past few weeks I have been spending late nights messing around in forge. While I should have been playing CoD4/5, BF:BC, and Halo with my friends I was attempting to build maps that we could all play and enjoy together. The outcome was a series of fun little maps that my friends and I do enjoy quite a bit. However there is a bit of a problem. As I build my maps I constantly invite my friends to play them so I can get second opinions as to where I need to tweak and fix things.

The problem is that my friends are not exactly the best with constructive crit and the most they offer in the way of advice is, “I Like it” or “I don’t like it.” Along with this I can normally only get a maximum of 5 players (me included) in these maps which really does not seem like nearly enough to get the most out of the maps experience.

So this is why I have decided to start posting my work, not only to get some advice as to what needs to change but to also just get more people into these maps to really experience it to its full potential. As of now I have 4 maps ready for release with another 2 on the way; you will find them below.

(If the download links do not work the maps can be found on my file share my gamer tag is Recon V17)

:UPDATE: Devotion
Alright so here is devotion, the map took less time to create than some of my others but hey, I’m proud of it none the less. This map is all about symmetry and not much else. It’s your basic two bases across from each other kind of map. The map sports quite a few high and low spots for plenty of action to take place. Examples of this being the center of the map or the two sniper towers located on either corner of the map. Not much else to say so here is the basic game play info and screenshots. One more thing, I have no idea what is going on but I can’t spawn grenades. Forge claims I have too many when I have used none. So as of right now there are no grenades on the map but it is something I’ll be working to fix.

Load'em Up
Load’em Up is definitely a favorite amongst my friends and me. It’s one of the maps that I spent a long time constructing, playing, and fine tuning until it felt right. My only regret is that when I made the map I had forgot to delete all previous spawn points for objectives throughout the original foundry. Now, capture points and skulls spawn under crates which I dare not delete out of fear of being unable to fix them. This map however does support a few game modes and is still a very entertaining slayer map which is probably what it is best suited for.

This map is split into 3 combat sections each supporting a different combat environment. Section one is a much wider area and supports arena style game play. Its open area does not offer much in the way of cover so if you find yourself in this particular location be ready to fight for your life. Section 2 supports two levels to combat, these two being the ground floor and the bridge platform one level above. You will find a lot more cover in this area and with it a higher chance of survival. But watch out it’s very easy to be pounced on from above when you’re not expecting it. Last there is section three. This is a very tight and close quarters fighting area. Inspired by Chiron from Halo CE you will find yourself making your way through a maze of teleporters, blood, and spent round.

Free Fall
Free Fall is one of my more “creative” maps as it has been called by friends. This maps is not particularly meant to be all too serious. It’s more along the lines of the average simple yet fun maps you may encounter.

The idea for this map was inspired by my childhood. I’m sure as kids most of you played, “The floor is made of hot lava” at home and pissed your parents off more than once as you jumped and walked all over the furniture. Well here is my version of that classic game brought into the brutal world of Halo.

Jump from fragile pallet to pallet wielding your heavy brute shot attempting to blow your opposition’s pallet out from under them. Keep a steady aim and your wits about you for one missed shot or reluctant jump can and will cost you your life.

Everlong
Everlong was a bit of a stretch. The whole idea for this map was multiple levels of combat. I tinkered around a bit with the idea and constantly tried my best to balance out the map. Although I tried my best my friends still criticized that the tower was too overpowered. They suggested that it be taken out all together, this however was not an option as the tower was the main feature the map was built around. This is one of the maps that needs some proving and testing.

As stated above this map is geared to multiple levels of combat and objective based game play. The idea was that the defending team would be placed within a tower which overlooks the map but still has significant blind spots as to not overpower the defenders. While the Defenders prepared for the impending assault on their tower the attackers would spawn well out of sight and the floor level. Their objective of cores is to make their way from the floor to the tower. The assaulting team has been given multiple entrances to the tower so as to avoid funneling.

Little House
Little House is strictly meant for everyone’s favorite game type, INFECTION. There is not much to say, the title sums it up quite nicely really. Survivors spawn in a small two story build which is crammed with weapons and only two entrances which the infected players bust beat their way through. But don’t think for a second that two it too little, countless trials have shown that any competent zombie can get in if not watched carefully.

You, the survivor, find yourself within the confines of a rather small two story house. Though packed like a sardine you and your fellow survivors are armed to the teeth and ready to hold off the undead horde. How long can you last?

New maps coming soon

So with all this said feel free to hit me up on XBL if you have any suggestions or just feel like messing around. My gamer tag is
Recon V17
I’m normally on at around 9:00 P.M Pacific Time, I know it’s a little late but it’s the only time I can really get on without having to deal with family. Along with that if you see me on during day hours it is most likely another family member.

Nice looking maps and the Free Fall reminds me of DMT's Broken Indigo for CE :]

Free Fall does have an echo of Broken Indigo, but it's nice to see it in a new game. I've downloaded and rated it on Bungie- apparently it counts non-ratings as zeros, so the average is a 53%. Should be fun to mess around with!
