Microsoft announced today at San Diego Comic Con that they are producing a series of animated movies based on Halo and they have signed on some of the top animated film makers and production studios in Japan. This comes on the heels of Hollywood failing to deliver a Halo movie twice (http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ct-videogames23-2009jul23,0,5232624.story).

Oh, and lots of other interesting stuff in that article as well, like 343 Industries and other Halo related stuff.

Just so happens that an animator from Ghost in the Shell is working on this...

Hopefully this is something like Animatrix though. That was pretty cool.

Also, I think it would be wrong to call this an anime. From the looks of it, it doesn't have the anime feel, just more that of an animated film.

At the very least, we may see some nice-looking fight scenes. I do not bank on much more, but the Neill Blomkamp stuff at least looked decent. They could probably pull it off in an animated context as well.

I've been disappointed by all of the out-of-game (and hell, even in-game) storytelling - I am fond of the universe and all its lore, but not much else. If this is anything like the HGN or the Marvel comics I won't even bother with it. A decent storyline could be done, but somehow I doubt it'll happen, especially if they're going to be jumping around the timeline like they said they would in the article. The books have at least been bearable means of developing the lore, but I haven't found myself wanting to read them more than once unless it's to double-check some facts about the universe as a whole. I have yet to see any really quality characters come from what we've seen so far, and I doubt the ability of an anime to survive from the lore alone as the games have.

I think they've kinda set themselves up to start in a corner - by definition the Spartans aren't allowed to die unless they start following the Spartans that we already know get killed from the books/etc - they can't really place them in any situations where we feel like they're in danger. Of course, if they do something with Fall of Reach this would change, but even then we already know the outcome. The format they've chosen isn't so good either. Unless they're linked together (which the article would imply isn't the case) I don't think they can cram in a decent story for each individual episode.

Then there's also the issue of whether or not the story universe will remain intact following this. I don't want a bunch of useless shit getting tacked onto the lore for a spin-off that will probably be mediocre at best. (Think of the stuff we all saw from the canceled Halo RPG and tell me you're not worried about this too).

Also, I would like to state that I am very nervous about this following one of the many horrible anime story cliches. I will vomit shit in disgust if this is about an ordinary high school boy who discovers [x] (potential candidates : a forerunner artifact, that he has super-powers as a result of a forerunner artifcat, that his sibling/friend became a Spartan) and has his world turned upside down as he searches for the truth and tries to balance his new life with his friends and family. They should at least try to make this distinctive.

...Actually that last option could be a bit interesting compared to the others.

Oh, and here's a particularly horrible thought : Jpop OP song set to the Halo theme.

One more to haunt your nightmares : grunt moe.

That is all.

Ok, is it just, or do those spaceships that the Spartans are riding on look completely ridiculous and implausible? They don't capture the Halo feel very well. I also have a feeling that this won't stick to cannon very well either, due to Master Chief being there, with other Spartans, all using the new Mark VI armor. This would say that the game happens after Halo 3, where most of the Spartans are dead, and Master Chief is stuck outside the galaxy.

In short, I find it looks lame, and that it will fail.

There is more to anime than just stupid magic girl storylines with purple haired characters. This could be good, better than nothing anyway... (starved for Halo content)

The Halo Universe is an expansive one and those that think it should be confined to the 4 games we have now along with the few books are just holding the series back. There's more to tell and I think any real fan will benefit.

As long as they keep with the tone and themes in the series it should be fine. I don't mind the format so much as I'm afraid that in the process of "anime"-ifying it they'll completely miss all of the stuff that makes Halo...Halo.

Although I do have to say that the vehicles the spartans are riding in that image look terrible and don't make a whole lot of sense :P.

Also, hoping for no Flood. PLEASE don't do the Flood.

Also, I think seeing MC is unlikely, at best, so no worries. Frankie was quoted as saying:

"We've seen the world through Master Chief's eyes, and we've experienced facets of the universe through a variety of literary prisms, but now we get to watch new tales unfold in really rich, visually dynamic ways. I think anime fans and 'Halo' fans alike are in for a real treat."

Some interesting excerpts...

4:31 - [Anime description] Flashes of planets. Very realistic looking until you see Chief who is more of a classic anime character. Some battles scenes. These have the dramatic effect of great anime. Lots of motion lines. Big explosions. Music is new, but clearly Halo.

I am becoming mildly optimistic.

4:32 - Chief and an Elite draw energy swords and circle, preparing for a duel. People cheer. It is pretty damn cool looking. A blend of gorgeous environments and more traditional anime-style characters.

Glad to hear that it at least looks nice.

4:39 - This dude knows how to make anime with some friggin' style. He says he likes videogames. Hooray. Showing sketches. Grunts confirmed.

More hope for the series.... at least visually.

There will be seven episodes from seven different creators. One of these episodes is two parts, because so big. The two part episode basically goes from Forerunner flood, it seems, to end of Halo 3.

Hopes for good character development : dashed. I really, really don't see myself getting attached to someone in someone that's not even a full-length movie.

4:51 - All stories except for "Toys" take place in the universe and are canon. "Toys" is not. It's meant to be a fun and silly exploration of Halo universe.

...Suddenly, I can see all of these jokes we've been making come true.

English and Japanese dub/subtitles for anime.

That's a surprise. I now have a fantasy of a hot-blooded Spartan being played by the man who did Guy Shishioh in GaoGaiGar.

5:03 - They do show Elites wearing smaurai armor. An episode named "Duel." It has a watercolor look. Sounds like this examines Elite's fuedal state before joining Covenant. Production-IG did this episode and did a "beautiful-looking piece."

:ugh: I feel like that could end up... just odd.

4:58 - Players want to know more about Sgt. Johnson or Cortana. That's what Legends offers. It's a half-confirmation of a Cortana story. I am also half-confirming my interest in this.

I feel like that could be interesting too, but then I remember that this is all gonna be in single-episode format.

5:10 - Some of the episodes of Halo Legends will be pretty violent and some of the stories are pretty dark. "Not pulling any punches" according to O'Connor.

Now we just need to know what they define "dark" as. Still, I'm letting myself get a bit optimistic now. I've at least gained confidence that it will look nice. Storyline(s) and characters.... I still don't know. That format keeps gnawing at anything I think could be interesting.

That might give a bit of backstory to the elite and I believe the samurai armour is the honor guard style armor (think about it...)

That's one scene I wouldn't mind seeing.

@Everyone: Who said a green armoured spartan is Master Chief?

I'm looking forward to this, but it seems to me that everytime America import something from Japan and have it remade to be American oriented, it ends up crap and vice versa (example of vice versa is Beast Wars II movie).

As long as the Japanese are overseeing the animation and the Americans are overseeing the production and Hollywood stay the fuck away from the story, it should be atleast a decent movie.

Rob Oplawar
July 23rd, 2009, 08:03 PM
I'm not making a snap judgement here, Snaf. This is the result of years of buildup:

Halo 1, action figures, three books, guides, art books, halo 2, more action figures, artwork prints, clothes, more action figures, halo 3, board games, "action clix", graphic novel, comic books, toys, merchandising, and now instead of what had potential to be the only good video game movie and a fantastic sci-fi film to boot, which would have been the only thing that could have turned me around, we're getting anime.

Halo is now officially Harry Potter to me. As I once loved those books, I now can't stand the thought of Halo. Microsoft pushed it past the breaking point for me. It is overmarketed and oversold to the point of my disgust.

Wake me when Bungie announces their non-Halo-related title.

ah. but the first one doesn't look like mc, as far as the name assigned number. I was using that one since it seems more plausible, as far as a scene from the show, and he looks important. The spartan looked like a mech with the mounted cannons and jetpack stuff. That could be an old old old Mjolnir model (They were bulkier, the descriptions of the older units are vague if I remember) or that could be one of the other types of power suits mentioned in the books (construction was mentioned, why not combat?). IS THAT YOU NUNALLY???

(I am reminded of someone somewhere else joking that CLAMP should do the character designs, which sounds lol at first but then I realized that it would probably actually work for the Spartans to look as tall as our friends in Code Geass...)

-Music sounds good, certainly more Halo-like than what we got in Halo Wars, and that's a major plus for me.
-Animation looks *ok* but there's quite a few art things I'm not liking... the space motorbikes for one, the Samurai elite we saw for another. They may looks considerably better when we see them in full action, but I'm still not totally sold.
-The opening shot with the astronaut looking at the earth, and then we see the MAC array was pretty nice. Makes me think we might have some decent stories after all.
-I am disturbed by the presence of the Mk. VI armor everywhere. I don't like it when people screw up with the canon regarding what things look like.
-Despite what everyone is saying, I like the spartan in the exoskeleton/mech thing. Full-blown mechs (AHEM, Halo Wars) rub me the wrong way when placed in Halo but we know from the books that the exoskeletons were part of the Mjolnir's development, so why not explore that a little?

Looks decent. I will watch it.

Though, it doesn't look like the studios are getting creative with the animation of the Spartans. Looks more like somebody drew on their experience on Gundam.

The actual art just isn't consistent and seems sloppy. It would be fine for a regular anime, but this is Halo we are talking about being developed by leading anime studios along with MS. I expected much more (like Ghost in Shell calibre artwork).

Meh, its the trailer.

Q&A with Frankie... http://carnage.bungie.org/haloforum/halo.forum.pl?read=932978

: who is "1337" Spartan?

He's in off-canon for laffs episode by Toei, which in no way prevents the RvB thing.

Thank God.

: Is there a canon explanation for the Spartans wearing MK.VI in the
: promotional images, or is it just the artistic direction?

: What's up with the space rocket motorbikes?

: Will any characters or events from the novels make an appearance in Legends?

Sausage-making answer is that Mark VI amor is as much to do with a graphical generational leap as anything else. Canonical reason is that armor aesthetics are secondary to purpose - hence MP variants, etc.

The Booster Frames are EVA specific purpose machines cobbled together for a very black ops mission and are purpose built to do a single task.

Yes. A few. Cool ones.

Glad to see that taken care of as well.

: 6. Does seven films include both parts of Origins?

Eight pieces, seven episodes. That make sense?

1. 4C's History piece - 2 parts.
2. Bones "Prototype" piece
3. Casio/Aramaki's Spartan/Space battle stuff
4. Toei's shenanigans
5. I.G's Duel (Elites around the time of the Prophet alliance)
6. I.G's exploration of the Spartan "recruitment" tragedy (kidnapping, etc)
7. 4C's ODST/Spartan rivalry

Some of these sound interesting... Also I totally called a story involving the Spartan children.

: 2. Will we (ever) see a Forerunner in the "flesh", and does any of
: the fiction tie into Mr. Bear's upcoming novel trilogy?

You'll see elements of the civilization and its technology and yes, it will connect. Mr. Aramaki is a HUGE Greg Bear fan, coincidentally.

Cool, cool...

: Will we learn of what happened to Cortana between Halo 2 and 3 while she was
: held captive by the Grave Mind? I always though it was odd she turned out
: just fine after sending so many transmissions during Halo 3.

hmmm.

I am now very intrigued.

Length:

They vary between ten and fifteen and twenty minutes. One is more like a half hour and thus split into two obvious parts (the 4C "Origins" episode).

.....

Oh.

E : More info!!! http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/100/1007244p1.html

4C is doing two episodes, "Origins" (a two-parter) and another tentatively titled "Babysitter." The first is a telling of the entire history of the Halo-verse from the perspective of a mystery character. It won't be Master Chief. It could be the Gravemind or a Forerunner (our best guess). It doesn't sound as if the perspective will jump from one character to the next, so the retelling of the Forerunners up through Halo 3 would require someone with knowledge of every event. It's certainly an epic story. And in the new trailer, you see Master Chief frozen in stasis. It does go there. O'Connor told us there are characters people have never seen before and some appearances that might prove surprising. "Babysitter" examines the interactions between ODSTs and Spartans. The rivalry will be fully explored and there should be a lot of tension. Though O'Connor wouldn't name a specific date the episode takes place, he said it is several years before Halo 1.

liking this

The TOEI episode may garner the most grumbling from the community. This is the one episode that is clearly not canonical. TOEI does over-the-top kid-oriented anime like Dragon Ball Z. 343 encouraged TOEI to go all out and be as zany and madcap as they wanted. The reason for this episode, according to O'Connor, is that many Halo fans are parents. But Halo is very much a mature-themed game and its side content (comics, novels and no anime) are also meant for an older crowd. This is the episode that parents can share with their kids. It stars Spartan 1337. If you laughed at that, you are prepped and ready to watch this episode. The episode is appropriately titled "Odd One Out."

Ok, of all of them this is the only one that sounds really abhorrent. At the very least it may be fun.

The episode from Bones is truly for mech geeks. Aramaki, who did designs for Macross and Mospeada, designed the experimental power-armored suit showcased in this episode. A marine has been sent to a distant planet to destroy this powered armor, but when he arrives he finds the planet is still inhabited by humans who are under siege by the Covenant. The suit is their only hope for survival. So he disobeys orders and keeps that suit -- at least temporarily -- the help the civilians. Ichiro Itano is responsible for the classic "missile dance" featured in the Macross Saga. In fact, it's called the Itano-Circus. One of his three disciples, Yasushi Muraki, directed this episode. He knew that Aramaki could make a brilliant design for the power armor and indeed he did. These two collaborators bring what is described as "mech porn" to the Halo universe. Expect a firefight like you've never before seen in any Halo game.

:tehlag:

Production IG is doing two episodes. The first, "Homecoming" is in a more traditional style. It's about Spartans coming to terms with their origins (flash-cloning, being kidnapped at a young age, etc.). Some of this was explained in the Fall of Reach novel, but this will explore some different territory. The star is a female Spartan. Yes, a lady.

The other is "Duel" done in an interesting watercolor style. This tells the story of the Elite as they are first interacting with the Covenant. O'Connor likened it to the first time Japan met with Portugal. Japan was an isolated, insular society and that radically changed after that point. And so two are the Elite, who get swept up in all the Covenant craziness. And there are brutes in samurai helmets.

Casio Entertainment is doing the full CG episode title "The Package." It's possible this story will also be broken into two parts (making for seven stories and nine total episodes). We don't know what "The Package" is, but it's being delivered by a group of Spartans. This one features some amazing space battles. We were able to watch a few minutes of these battles and it's truly a sight to behold. The Spartans can be seen flying Booster Frames, which are small, lightly-armored ships that look a bit like a cross between an X-Wing and a Speeder Bike.

This story comes from the writer of Cowboy Bebop. Though the first half has a lot of air combat, there's quite a lot of action in the belly of the Covenant ship. Expect some gun and hand-to-hand battles. As was seen in the debut trailer, Master Chief squares off against an Elite in a plasma sword duel.

Cool enough.

I am still very disappointed by and wary of the episode length.

Wasn't it specifically stated in Halo 2 by Regret or Truth (can't remember which) that the covenant was formed at the end of the Prophet/Elite war once the prophets discovered the forerunner's "great journey"?

And weren't brutes a relatively new addition to the covenant by the time of the Halo series?

Slow down there Limited. Microsoft word spell check has found a few problems with your post!

I dont want the story to be covered in candy so kids will think its adorable and love it.No idea how you gathered that it will be like that.

Thats not what Halo is about, survival, its gritty, horrific and desperate, anime will never be able to portray that. This is the funniest part of your post. Why? Its as if you're making a statement that not only has no backing and is completely based on bias, but also completely ignores the several anime that portray those exact same qualities infinitely better! Good thing that wasn't a real post!

Seriously though, the places where Halo truely is compelling is in its art, music, and gameplay. Even there Halo doesn't beat too many good anime. Its plot and characters are nothing special as well, so that certainly doesn't help.

Now for the third issue. You pulled that entire judgement out of the trailer. Welp.

E: I do agree though that it should be a bit more gritty and doesn't seem entirely like Halo in its themes. It was more so the second part of the post that brought up my nerd rage. Lol.

Yes my post is 100% bias, that doesnt mater one bit, why? Because these are being made for the fans. If for some bizarre reason they are made for general people who might not be fans, then that just confirms my sugar coating beliefs.

You complain to me that I am bias, yet your sig and avatar is 100% anime.

My statement has no backings? I watched the bloody trailer. I've seen the "promotional" materials. Its not being true to the story. Since when have you see MC flying, no gliding through the air with such grace? No where, apart from poorly thoughtout anime.

If it fully fits the Halo series, then I will accept it, if it was an animated graphical novel I would be praising it. Anime however, is completely different and I believe will not suit the Halo style one bit, it will dumb down the seriousness and the true despair that occurs in the story.

If your going to expand on a story, that has been around for years. They need to stay true to the series and true to the style of story telling for the series.

You're basically taking the route against this, just as a child would while their parents are trying to get them to eat their vegetables, after the child ate some disgusting rotten vegetable or seaweed or something else; "I DON'T WANNA BECAUSE IT WILL TASTE GROSS JUST LIKE THAT _____"

For one, just like the child, you won't know until you try it; or in this case, watch it. Two; how are you supposed to take in physics with the "NO ONE CAN GLIDE LIKE THAT," when Master Chief had a bomb blow behind him, giving him a huge boost, entered the earth's atmosphere, and crash into Africa without so much as a concussion.

I don't like anime in general. There are 2 things essential to ANY story: plot and art. And anime fails on both accounts.

The plotlines are ALWAYS confusing, IF they make any sense at all. I was watching an anime one time about a guy who talked to a girl at school over some Instant Messenger. They both liked each other, and so it seemed like they would get together. Then the guy goes to some Japanese holiday's special fair/festival thing, finds some random girl who had no connection to the story and was never mentioned before, and starts to date her. The end. It was like the whole half-hour of stuff which happened before the final scene even mattered. And don't even get me started on this whole S.O.S. brigade thing, which STILL confuses the fuck out of me. Also, I just can't believe that the guy is seriously using a sword twice the size of him with any kind of accuracy. You ever try to swing a sword which is 12 feet long? It doesn't go over well.
The artwork always feels lazy. They repeat the exact same 2 frames over again to represent someone talking, when it's just someone opening and closing their mouth. The characters in the background don't even MOVE. The cars are stopped at a green light. The people are frozen in mid-step. It's like they're walking in a street full of statues. It seems like someone slapped it together as fast and as cheap as possible to make a quick buck.

Long story short, I may like Hentai, but I don't like anime.

Anime IS not Halo.

Just because you don't understand the storyline doesn't mean its that confusing. Even when they are confusing, they really aren't that hard to understand. Just put a little thought into it. :ugh:

Warsaw

Limited, a very large portion of Japanese anime plots and themes have roots in European history...just thought I'd toss that out.

English Mobster
1. Not true. Last Exile wasn't confusing. Blue Submarine No. 6 wasn't confusing. Akira makes sense, and so does Princess Mononoke. You just can't jump in during the middle of an arc, that's all...and you shouldn't be doing that with any story really. S.O.S. Brigade is not one of the better animes, actually. I think it's shit, tbqh. Also, the plots are thicker and more intriguing than most Western stuff...the only Western TV programmes I can think of that twist it up as much as anime does are Torchwood and Doctor Who, and both of those are set in the same universe (kudos to BBC for this, just watched Children of Earth and it was riveting).

2. I cede the point about lip motions. Then again, videogames did the same thing for awhile, so do a lot of western cartoons, and the lip motions are made more for the Japanese language than for English (since we all seem to speak it here). As for statuesque backdrops, I can't remember the last time I saw that...maybe it was in Pokémon, but that isn't exactly definitive either.

I can agree that there shouldn't be a Halo anime, and I think this shit will suck, but don't say anime is stupid just because it doesn't have an overly simple plot and because older anime re-used frames to save money.

If they used Ghost in the Shell mechanics, then it would work. That would actually fit very well in the Halo universe. Gundam mechanics or anything flashy, forget it.

Replace the freedom gundam with a longsword and there ya go.

Point 1: Ever heard of filler episodes? Sometimes animes get random episodes that play little or no part in advancing the story line. Usually this is because there's a manga or something that goes along with it and fillers are used to keep the show from advancing plot wise ahead of the manga. Other than that, there are some animes out there with amazing storylines. Deathnote anyone?

Point 2: Not all animes are like this. You can't judge a whole group just based on 1 show.

1) We don't know that's the MC. In fact, it's been stated that the story in question is about another Spartan entirely confronting her abduction to join the program.

2) Why wouldn't he? Of course you can't remember this happening, why would they want to retell a story they've already told? God forbid they should take your precious testosteronefest and give the Spartans some semblance of humanity.

3) Given that it's on the poster that represents the entire episode, I think we can make a pretty educated guess that it's not exactly a "random" person.

yes like how it messed up _, and then when _ and _ happened, the anime totally fucked over everything

Of everything that I don't like that they're doing, I really don't see how being an anime is specifically responsible for it, with the exception of the Samurai Elites - though the more I think about it (consider their Honor Guard armor) the less I am opposed to it.

Good_Apollo
July 28th, 2009, 04:46 PM
The Arbiter armor certainly has a samurai-ish look to it. Frankly the whole Elite social structure and everything about them seems to be derived from Japanese culture. I just don't get why everyone is making a fuss, it seems to work, it's just never been visually represented. Seems like everyone has a certain image in mind as to how they want things to be rather than what is canon or what is going to be shown as canon, which is ridiculous really.

From what I've read, the Elites have a feudal society-- same as Japan during the time of the samurais. The honor guard armor has very clear samurai influence--Not sure how the Arbiter's armor fits in. Ok look, I'm just going to put my two cents out there.

If each production studio is completely in charge of their own work, this has the potential to be good. Although Microsoft certainly sees this as just another way to milk the franchise, I think that at least a few Japanese production companies, namely Bones and 4C, see it differently. The reason being that BONES (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Bones#TV_anime) and 4C (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_4%C2%B0C#Feature_Films) don't make mainstream shit anime. [/opinion]

we're going round and round and round and round and round...... and getting fucking no where.
We've got generic anime haters on one side, and on the other we've got people that realize theres more to a show then just it's animation style.
We all know this is a cash cow but what ultima and the others arnt projecting stereotypes onto something we have very little information about.

then we get useless projections such as watching anime makes you WANT TO BE JAPANESE OMG LOOK AT HOW CULTURAL I AM I WATCH CARTOONS Blar blar blarg fucking horse shit.
it's all fucking stupid.

Too bad that stereotype actually exists for a reason.

I also like how not liking anime makes me 'generic'. Oh man. This is just too good.

no your a cardboard cut out for pretentious, projective, stupidity because of the very very shitty reasons you've posted.

i dont even watch anime.

look i'll just copy and paste your projections

Too bad that stereotype actually exists for a reason.
no.

*waits to be abused for not realising that anime is a truly incredible art form and has immense depth, unlike that shallow western shit*
more no.

Pretty much this. If you want to absolutely capitalise off of something which seems to have already passed its peak, just make an anime series based off of it. You'll be making money hand-over-fist from all the kids who think watching shitty anime makes them somehow Japanese. Make it into a western cartoon, and nobody will give a fuck.
and again.

Anime is a marketing gimmick to reel in pseudo-Japan-o-philes. It is, in it's simplest definition, shitty animation. This looks like goddamn Pokemon (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fardo_nl/3765517702/in/set-72157621871676796/), for Christ's sake.

Edit:
C"MON, THIS IS JUST LAME. IS THIS OR IS THIS NOT THE MOST CLICHED PIECE OF SHIT YOU'VE EVER SEEN? http://www.flickr.com/photos/fardo_nl/3765517840/in/photostream/

yep this sure does look legit

*awaits "THE COVENANT WERE DOING GENETIC EXPERIMENTS" or "THAT IS THE KING BRUTE" or "IT'S NOT TO SCALE" or "SHUT UP IT CAN'T BE BAD IT IS ANIME" responses*
and this.

And this is just what you've posted TODAY after jcap unlocked the thread.
and what a brilliant decision that was.

I typed "projective" into Yahoo search and got "Rorschach inkblot test" as a result. That's awesome.

Also,

Guess what, stereotypes just don't come out of no where.
When Kornman says it, it must be canon. I'll give it a shot and hope I don't get the Wikipedia Effect as a repercussion.

I've pretty much already said how pathetic and how bad this will be, people have said don't jump to conclusions but seriously you can see how it is the same style as pokemon and all that other stuff we get. One of the most important things they need to get right IMO is the voices and how characters interact, that's always what makes it for me. I've decided to read the Halo books, that way the story cannot be tarnished and everything is up to my imagination.

Agreed, Bod. Ross, you're acting like you have an uh... "anime vendetta". You're just repeating the same things over and over again (as Bod is saying) to bash anime. Hell, the fact that you're now linking The Anime Reality excessively (all 4 links in your signature, the articles thread, directly to me) is just a sign that you're trying to do all you can.

lol bodie you're pretending you're not mad but you full are

we discussed this on steam. either you're trying to dredge yourself out by saying you were deliberately making the connection to irritate me, or you used the forums to further your own troll. not really what one would expect from a moderator.

~owned~

e/ heh ultama you're mad too?

---seriousness starts here---

I personally don't like anime for a number of reasons. One of the big ones is that the usual haunts for anime plotlines does nothing at all for me, in the same way superhero comics never really appealed to me. But you know what? There's one that really tops that. Want to know what it is? It's because all I have to do is say that I, as a person, do not like anime in general, and this is my personal opinion. Despite this being my own opinion formulated from my own experiences of anime (both anime itself and its following), anime fans treat it as though I am saying it's absolute, unrefutable fact that every anime is horrible, every anime fan is a fucktard, and they should all be taken out and shot or something. If I react the same way every time someone expresses a dislike of something I'm interested in, I get even more shit thrown at me. Explain to me how that makes any sense at all. Go on, please do. Explain why my own personal opinions are inherently 'wrong' when it comes to anime alone. Explain how that works.

Please. I'd love to hear why my opinions of what is or isn't an affront to the Halo universe is suddenly illegitimate because anime is involved. I'm going to enjoy watching you all prove my own point.

(By the way, the reason I'm linking to The Anime Reality so much is mainly to stir you all further, because it seems you're incapable of realising that I'm just taking the piss, probably because it involves your precious anime. The other big reason is that it's fucking hilarious just how sad some people are. You honestly believe I don't treat anyone who's literally obsessed with something else in the same way?)

I'll make a new thread for all you kids to get mad in

That said, and this is ignoring the anime aspect, I honestly don't like what I'm seeing. If they made an anime which stayed true to canon as laid down by Bungie, I'd probably watch it. I might even enjoy it. I don't like where the story is being taken and for all I care it could be a western cartoon, CGI, live-action, whatever... it wouldn't change that.

I said it in the hentai thread and I said it to you on aim, I'll say it again.

People care too much. I would understand the rage if it was, say, Japan invading us and forcing a cultural coup on us, however, this is a product offered to us that we can choose to like or dislike, watch or not watch.

Personally, I don't look specifically for anime. If someone shows me some or I happen across some, I'll look. If I find the story interesting enough or the events funny enough, I'll watch it (e.g. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya). If it falls into relying on the typical cliches too much, or simply enough just drags on and on, I'll stop watching it (e.g. Bleach). If it's overpopular, and I mean super-mainstream holy crap, I don't even bother (e.g. Pokemon, Naruto, Dragonball, Dragonball Z)

Stow the rage and arguments for the zealous fanboy types who want to cram it down your throat. In this thread, all I see is you raging, and people explaining why they like it, and then you raging harder. Stop taking it out on the innocents who're just trying to enjoy it quietly.

Nice try.

See the "1337" on the armor? That's the parody one, done by Toei. When I say parody, I mean silly random weirdness btw. Probably going to be bad tbh.

Oh really? (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fardo_nl/3765517534/)
Flashback where the character is confronting a mental image of her sister. She is under a lot of stress and is wigging out.
Her sister is outraged at the fact that she is killing and whatnot and kills her in the flashback.
Basically at the end of the episode she realizes that her sister would have favored her choice to help and save people.

OH NO, THEY WANT TO BRING SOME HUMANITY TO THE SPARTANS?

Looks a lot like it'd be harder to find a canon episode.

Also, you do realise that they were snatched as kids right? MC can't even remember his own mother, do you honestly think they're going to remember siblings all those years down the track? As far as any of the Spartans was concerned, their only family was each other.

There are plenty of ways to bring humanity to characters other than cliche flashbacks where some sort of family member or close friend is involved. It'd be nice to see those used for once.

I was getting like that because apparently I'm not allowed to say this is going to be fucking horrible regardless of animation style.

I'm used to mediocre voice acting, an it doesn't bother me unless it's truly horrible. I'd rather watch something in my own language than japanese. I hate reading subtitles when i'm trying to watch some brute gut-punching. Besides, the series is quite obviously made for the Western fanbase. The Xbox 360 did not do well in Japan, we know this.

what irked me is this:

fight scene between the SPARTAN and the brute was ok, but when the brute "threwe up" it look like he spat out a bucket of cum

But like I bitched about previously, it wouldnt follow Halo's "world rules" and follow Halo, and it fucking didnt.
