butts: After a hasty announcement, Tripwire has revealed further details on campaigns and multiplayer in its realistic tactical WW2 shooter Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.

Multiplayer will be expanded with several new modes, plus persistent stat tracking and player progression to unlock weapons and items--ultimately becoming a visually-distinct 'Hero' who will "inspire troops around them and cause fear in their enemies."

Tripwire touts "true to life ballistics, bullet penetration, breathing, adjustable sights, free aim, weapon bracing... and more," plus a new first-person cover system with blind firing.

The game's two campaigns--one each for Russian and German sides--pack co-op support and focus on the Battle of Stalingrad between July 1942 and February 1943, curiously built from the game's multiplayer maps arranged into campaign order.

No release date been announced for the Unreal 3 Engine-powered shooter.

butts: RO multiplayer taken to new heights: In addition to the award winning Territory gametype from RO, all new gametypes such as Firefight and Countdown add greater diversity, replayability and fun.

Persistent Stats Tracking and Player Progression: Grow in rank, earn medals, improve abilities, and become a Hero – all visible to the complete online gaming community and embedded within the game.

Heroes: Obtain the ultimate goal and become a Hero online. Players with hero status inspire troops around them and cause fear in their enemies. Heroes have access to the best and rarest weapons and equipment, and will stand out visually from the rest of the soldiers.

Stalingrad Campaign: The Stalingrad campaign will feature the multiplayer maps used in a campaign layout recreating the battle for Stalingrad from both the German and Russian sides.

First person cover system: Experience the ultimate firefights that a cover system allows, from the immersion of a first person view. Peek or blind fire over and around cover and more.

Squad Command: Command fire teams on the battlefield using an easy to use first person interface.

WWII weaponry redefined: true to life ballistics, bullet penetration, breathing, adjustable sights, free aim, weapon bracing, photo-real graphics and more.

Co-op: Players can connect with their friends and battle the AI in multiple game types including the Stalingrad Campaign, Skirmish Mode, and more.

Morale: Experience what it is like to be a soldier in one of the bloodiest conflicts in history and the importance of a soldier’s state of mind and how it can turn the tide of battle.that thing reaching up into the sky. that is my boner right now.

butts: Leading Eastern and Central European publisher 1C Company and Tripwire Interactive are excited to announce the sequel to Red Orchestra, the leading realism-based multiplayer WWII shooter on the PC. Might actually buy it this time, given that it has a single player now.

ostfront is amazing. Sure, the graphics are somewhat dated, but it has great online gameplay, and the tactics come naturally.

Graphics are horribad in some of those screens, but the gameplay aspects look to make up for that considerably.

Is the SP going to be squad based or something? I can't imagine they letting go lone wolf in this kind of game.

If this is on the UE3 then they should make sure that it runs good... unlike alot of UE3 games on pc

Been playing RO since the v3.2 of the UT2k4 mod...am definitely buying. Campaign will probably be both mass action and squad-based.

I was looking at the bent wings. The rest is kind of fuzzy, and I saw no support struts on the tail fins.

not liking the hero idea very much. If it's done in a linear fashion, like experience in CoD 4, then eventually you're going to end up with the same situation as in that game (99% of everyone being level 55/heroes).

It's the massive boner people get to "realism" which really makes me not want to play it. Yeah it adds depth, but at the expense of accessibility so those not motivated to play something "realistic" and just after a fun game (eg, me) won't initially get/appreciate the finer (and very important) aspects of the game.

Then you get yelled at by the self-important cocks who think it's serious business and i just cbf'd.

It's plenty fun and as long as you're not literally brainless it's pretty easy to get used to. Just push the capzones, shoot the bad guys, don't take the important classes (sniper, MG, engineer, anti-tank, tank crew, and of course squad leader) if you don't know how to use them, and don't waste reinforcements in pointless charges.

There are a few cocks but mostly the community's not too terrible. As long as you buddy up with an experience player, you should be fine.

Tiffies (http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/AAF/AAF-H-DDay/img/AAF-H-DDay-p15.jpg) haven't got gull wings. No wartime British-made fighter did. Tiffies have rounded wingtips, rounded tail surfaces, and were never present on the Eastern Front in any significant numbers (if at all). http://sa.tweek.us/emots/images/emot-psyduck.gif

I'd imagine TWI gave that some consideration. I find it more likely that it's based on exactly how much you do to help your team or something similar, rather than just cumulative points.

As long as there is a limited number of heroes per side, it's cool. I agree with Pooky, I don't want to see a bunch of pretentious cocks running around with medals.

HI GUYS HUGE UPDATES AND SHIT

Be9pRY-PiZA
the soundtrack owns. listening to this and freezing my balls off. all i need is to be holding a mosin-nagant and it'd almost be like being there. twi owns for atmosphere and immersion

irnEsYClcCI
new screens. fuck me this game is pretty

oh also rising storm, a pacific expansion, is in parallel development by some of the most talented modders going (including several friends of mine). looks similarly amazing, and twi is actually going to pay them upon completion. depending on success they might make it buyable dlc rather than free, but a large cut goes to the modders. basically twi are the best dudes.

Completely agree there. I actually played some Ostfront yesterday, just dicking around, I almost shat my pants when I poked my head over some cover and a ppsh started hosing at me. RO is literally the only game I've played where getting shot at is actually scary as fuck.

You can rocket jump in any game as long as there's a decent launcher and ragdoll physx!

You can artillery jump, it's even better! I mean, okay, so you'll have no arms or legs afterwards, but you'll fly for hundreds of feet! :allears:
