The website, http://www.pm.gov.au/, was brought down at about 7.20pm (AEST) along with that of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/HOMEPAGE/PC=HOME), but both were back online about an hour later.
A message posted on the Inquisitor website by the hacker, known as Anonymous, stated that the action was in response to a federal government proposal to introduce mandatory internet filtering.

Bitch got fucking served tbh, chalk another one up for the internet hate machine.

Oh, and there's the obligatory anon circle-jerk video here (http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/860067/prime-ministers-website-hacked) if anybody wants to sit through (WE ARE EVERYWHERE, WE ARE LEGION, WE DO NOT FORGIVE, etc).

As an Aussie I feel that this internet censorship is total horseshit - everything tends to get either censored or banned in this country, no R18+ rating for video games, violent films get banned and most firearms are banned. It's really quite sad. I'm actually planning to move to the states when I'm a bit older.

I wish I could say "we just need to vote him out", but look at the alternative :gonk:

E: Shit, I'll have to vote if they hold it after July 10, that's scary O_O

If we have an equivalent of the UK's Monster Raving Loony Party out here, vote for them.

As much as I hate the idea, this isn't helping. Now all the ignorant fucks who support this kind of thing or who were at least indifferent are going to think "oh, those evil hackers!" and push it even more. Trust Anon to go and throw a spanner into the works.

But if it's a matter of "lesser of two evils", I'd rather not leave a decision like that to somebody else by throwing my vote in the bin. :/

I thought Australia had some sort of instant-runoff voting system?

you cant prosecute anon.

you can only get individuals and they'd step up to help a brothers plight.

Unfortunately most people still don't know what the fuck so every time they do step up, it just makes an even bigger mess.

but thats the thing this creates awareness, sure some people will still be stupid and ignorant as fuck but i'm betting a vast majority of people know absolutely NOTHING about this proposed plan.
they can get stupider or maybe learn a thing but at least they're not as big a mushroom as they where before, kept in the dark and fed bullshit.

We aren't far behind. When your a bit older, we'll probably already be on par with Australia.

Oh believe me; with the way America is currently going, we're headed the exact same way you guys are. Everyone feels that they have the right to not be offended, and if they happen to find something they object to, they MUST stop it.

Mean while in the land of the english we have politicians leaving laptops on trains and politicians claiming "expense" for stupid things.
More notable was the former home secretary ended up having her husband charge taxpayers to rent a porno from block buster in which as soon as it was revieled she immediately paid it back.
Oh and lets not forget the speaker for the houses of parlament has recently stepped down after making him look like a corrupt father christmas.
