So I'm just now watching the extended editions of Lord of the Rings in 1080p and 5.1 surround... My god if you haven't experienced Lord of the Rings in this format you're missing out BIG TIME. I'm only at the "A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins... Nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to" part of Fellowship of the Ring, but GOD THE SOUND MY PANTS OH GOD ITS EVERYWHERE. It's so good I can't believe my ears, the surround sound just makes the movie insanely better, I don't even remember it being this good in the theater for Christ-sake.

"IF YOU'RE REFERRING TO THE INCIDENT WITH THE DRAGON..."

FUCK GANDALF WITH HIS LACK OF FIREWORKS FUUUUUUUUUUUU ILL KIL- WOOOO FIREWORKS YEA YEAYEA TYAYAYYYYY

pm me if you want this "version" of the films.

The theatrical version are released on BluRay but the Extended editions are not set to be released on BluRay until 2010 or 2011.

So I don't know how Freelancer got the Extended editions in BluRay unless he got the theatrical versions OR has them in an HD-DVD format.

Care to elaborate Freelancer? (You can PM me if you'd rather do that.)

PM sent.

Basically it's 720p upscaled (well) to 1080p, it's not true 1080p but it looks close enough.

Haha. True, but there's definitely something to be said for seeing it visually. And what epic visuals those are.

Hasn't everyone?

You shouldn't watch the movies without first reading the books, half of it won't make sense. No, more like 99% of it won't make sense if you don't read all the appendices and such, and the Hobbit.

I know a lot of people who love the movies and understand them perfectly without having read the books. The beauty of those movies is that if you haven't read the books, you don't notice you're missing anything, but if you have you get a lot more out of the movies.

If I have a choice between a dvd version with great 5.1, and a 720 version with great 5.1, I'm always going to go for the 720 version. So what if it is a rip, it's still better quality than the dvd. Of course, if it's a tv rip then it might be a bit jumpy at times where the commercials would be, but that's up to the viewer if they can deal with that or not. I don't have a blu-ray player, so I get .mkv rips of the video, with perfect quality.

The extended edition Blu-rays don't come out until next year. 720p HDTV is currently the best thing available. Also, not all HDTV rips are "disgusting".

No, they don't.

I guarantee you they really do not.

I guarantee you they really do not.

But they think they do. That's all anyone can ask of a movie adaptation of a book. Enjoyable, and that it makes sense within itself. If they don't get the whole picture, tell them to read the books. But the fact that they can watch and think they understand is enough.

What are you getting at Bodzilla? I made a thread to inform people of the awesomeness that is Lord of the Rings with 5.1 surround and HD quality. There's nothing wrong with that.
