It randomly turns off :ohdear:

And to try to turn it back on you have to unplug the PSU or flip the switch and then drain the power from the machine, then flip the switch back on or plug it back in and hope that works....

Advice?

Sounds like the PSU's failing-- either it's overheating, shorting, or just having a general failure that causes it to automatically turn off so that it won't break your machine.

Buy a new PSU, and don't be afraid to splurge a bit-- You get what you paid for with PSUs, and a cheap PSU is more likely to be made out of subpar parts that might break and take your computer with it.

Do you have any working PSUs you can swap out, just to see if that's the problem?

Is it like, bad PSU season right now? Aerowyn had a bad PSU just recently as well, and we all know that "one bad PSU post equals one billion bad PSU's, so that means 2 billion people have had bad PSU's this past season!!!" </family guy>

I don't have another to test with, but I might at work. I'll give it a chance and go from there. I can't splurge right now because I just spend $1700 in car parts. I think I'll wait till Black Friday. :realsmug:

I had that problem back in January. Your PSU is fucked. Get a new one.

The one I posted it normally $130 or something, it's made by OCZ, is modular, 700w, free shipping.

Buy before it's too late and the price goes up/free shipping goes away

Since everyone is so certain it's my PSU (And I wouldn't doubt it) I went ahead and dug up $50 and bought this.

I don't need the OCZ one even though I would love it I don't have the cash.

Just installed mah new sexy PSU... and I thought it worked because my machine ran for the longest time (5-10mins) before it just cut power again. The only way to get it to boot is to flip the PSU switch, drain the power, flip the PSU switch back and then hit the power button.

Me thinks it is something Proc/mobo related because if you don't go through those steps to attempt the boot again it will start (only the fans will come on, no beeps or harddrives moving around) and then after about 10secs turn off.

What if my heatsink on my proc is not getting a good draw of heat from the proc. Would that cause something like this to happen? What can I do to test it.

tl:dr The new PSU didn't fix it, I think something is overheating, mainly the Processor how can I test it

Your PSU also could have fucked up something on your mobo, don't exclude that.

Well if it was the proc or mobo I planned on figuring out which one or just scrapping this e6400 and going for the AMD Phenom II/mobo combo
