I think I just found me a new background for my computer :haw:

Anyone else here have any hi-res, super stellar pictures? Preferably ones in the UV spectrum (~near). I like the blue shade in that galaxy's rim, but the center is a little too purple for me :\

iirc none of these images are taken in colour like that, it's all done in photoshop.

Still, the fact that that all exists out there at all (and in any given direction you care to look) is mind blowing.

While I've heard that a lot of them are coloured, what they typically do for proper colour images is take the same picture 3 times for different wavelengths, capturing R, G, and B

They explain just how the color is "captured." In some cases it's real, some cases it's enhanced.

I bet you don't have one that's 91.25MB big.

Anywhoo. There's a site called digitalblasphemy.com. They've got a lot of images like that.
