So that "new" computer I got?

Well, the board seems to have some issues, I think. It's a SOYO SY-P4VTE. It hates my 4GB USB flash drive; right now I made it a bootable flash drive with Windows 7 on it, and it hangs when accessing it for the boot record. Also, if I try to use ERD Commander with it plugged in, it hangs on boot.

Secondly, something's going on among the BIOS, CPU, and RAM. In XP, the machine reboots at random. At first I thought it was a RAM issue, but it still does it even when I put the RAM sticks from my old PC into it. I also thought it was overheating, but I dunno; is 46-49 degrees Celsius too hot (it's the reading I get when I check the temps in the BIOS setup right after it BSODs)?

However, I'm convinced that the board failed and is causing some intermittent problems. Anyone got a recommendation for a decent ATX socket 478 mobo for cheap, that supports a 3.0GHz P4 Prescott? I can't buy a replacement for this board because SOYO went bankrupt a while ago, so no stores carry them and there's none on eBay.

That cheap enough?
Although i would thuroughly suggest just getting a cheapass 775 socket and getting a cheapass pentium 5 and go from there.

Gah, one hour. >.<

Yes, but I dunno if I can get it like RIGHT NOW, no card and my paypal is empty at the moment; would take a few days to get money into it from my bank account.

As for your other suggestion, I would, but only if the 775 processor is really, REALLY cheap. I'm damn sure the P4 and RAM I have is okay and would like to reuse it if possible.

pentium d would be about $20-$30 and the motherboard you can get for around $10-20 so that should be pretty cheap.

Save up for new hardware.

$50 Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186182) + one of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116265) + ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820161182)

You're wasting money by buying broken old hardware. If you can't afford the stuff I linked go ahead and ebay a Celeron (http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Celeron-D-SL9BR-3-06GHz-256-533-295_W0QQitemZ260491440285QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?h ash=item3ca67ff09d#ht_500wt_956) or something. Save up for something better after that.

I should ban you for suggesting I do such a thing. :maddowns:

And let me make it clear: I didn't buy this machine or any of its parts, it was given to me. This is why I'm looking for cheap shit; it's salvage and I haven't the cash for new things right now.

I thought you people would know that by now; if I had money, I CERTAINLY wouldn't be buying crappy old hardware.

Yours was a year and a half obsolete when you got it...:saggy:.

p0lar: Honestly, there are so many Socket 478 motherboards up for bid on eBay, it's not even funny. However, if you must have one now, and are willing to pay unnecessary amounts of money for it, try this.
