The Forerunners left all the relics behind for the races they re-seeded. Only the Reclaimers however gained the inheritance and birthright of the Halo Array and other major Forerunner artifacts. The Reclaimers are the chosen descendants of the Forerunners as they were to the Precursor, any other species as no right on the Halo Array or The Ark.

Turns out expertzone are doing a quiz for a chance of getting "The art of Halo" and have a video as well as background.
They've now added a bit of security to ensure people who enter are actually staff now.

Looks like an island on the BG forge world map. They say it's big enough to hold 16 people just by itself. That map is enormous.

Angle snaps in forge. Objects have no collision when editing. "structures" category has building blocks for making buildings etc.
I saw the antenna from ascension somewhere in there.

It's not just no collision- you can actually change what physics model the object has while moving it- there's normal, which is like H3 forge, then there's one where you release it and it just stays there, and then there's a third one where it's non-collidable, for easy merging and stuff.

I considered the new Reach Xbox, but I don't need the extra controller. That $40 could buy the entire run of Reach DLC. I do need a new 360, though. I've been feeling the crunch on the puny 13GB hard drive since Mass Effect 2 came out on 2 discs. 20x the storage would be nice.

So, I'll consider buying it as long as I have someone 'old enough' because I believe Reach is rated M and me, being 15, can not buy that because Gamestop is gay. Both my brothers will be at college also and won't come back until..probably Thanksgiving break. I dun wanna wait that long damn it!

I doubt that's a chess board. It looks like more like a grid for helping you align stuff.
Just like the grid that is in forge mode for Sandbox, but it's an object.

You know someone ought to make a "hek world" for CE. We have the tutorial map which is obviously to small, but if we make a grand map that has places to construct all sorts of things with scenery then maybe we can get these 3ds-faint-of-heart noobs to stop pumping out bloodgulch variants. A nice variable environment for people to play around on in sapien would be kind of cool.

Then we'd have to release model packs, I suppose. I think the main problem would be the size of these maps with all the unused space. If there was a way to pick and choose which sections of the giant map get used when compiled, that'd be ideal.

Or you could use OS's added ability of mod-sets. Then all maps made from the same resources provided in the stock CE World would share bitmaps/sounds in a single set of data files.

Updates could be made to the CE World tag set and the mod-set files could then be updated without breaking old CE World maps.

Scenery in CE is different from the (I think) static meshes that Forge uses. If your camera is pointed away from the scenery's origin beyond a specified distance, the thing will disappear. So, you can't really have huge scenery objects that you can go inside or stand near. They'll blink in and out. At least that was my experience when I tried to make huge beams and crap out of scenery in one of my maps.

Anyway, I'm actually going to use Forge this time. I thought it was kind of a joke before. But please, for the sake of all that is good and decent, if some asswipe releases a World 1-1 map, don't download it. You'll just be encouraging people that should be rounded up and castrated.

TBH i would like some sort of puzzle map along the lines of a mario map

my idea was a massive invasion map with a huge UNSC fortress built into that cliff edge seen in the viddoc...imagine huge sky battles raging along side forces trying to push up

im gonna play through SP first though

I didn't think to try that. I didn't even think the volume of the frame object was even stored in the tag. I thought it was just a reference point. Oh well, live and learn.

That, I tried. Didn't work for the beams I had, which went from one side of a huge map to the other. No matter what I set the radius to, they would occasionally disappear. It probably had more to do with the portals than the bounding radius, but I didn't really fight or investigate the issue. I just gave up and modeled them into the BSP.

Back on topic: versus firefight. So, we can do any combination of 4 players? 3v1, 2v1, etc. on either side?

But in the beta, you could use the Plasma Turret from the Phantom while in the passenger seat of the Warthog, and It worked fine too.

That may have been a bug though, so idk.

But that would be a pretty big thing to test I guess. Seeing as how you're now introducing some many new dynamic factors for the AI to compensate for. They may have used some new systems which optimize AI calculations at the cost of using the layout of objects and such at the time of a map's build. And you know some jokers would have walled off the areas where Phantoms come in at. Just more stuff for them to program to either make sure you don't do or make the AI adjust for.

Gridlock was one, my old map still going by the internal name "Hangar" was another, there was one more that never got a name, although that one isn't flat and thus would be considerably harder.

I may also remake some other maps I had a hand in, like the old UMT Archive.
E: Domain might make a comeback as well. That was a fun map.

I honestly think a Revelations styled map would work pretty well in Reach, especially with all the cliff edges in Forge World to work with. And, The Pit would be a great choice for a remake since the jetpack would let that upper spawn level actually serve some purpose rather than just being a camping spot/annoyingly removed spawn. I've even been thinking of Bungie's original concepts for The Pit that set it as a mutli-leveled Big Team map, with the 'highway' and catwalks above the basic map.

But what we should do is band together as former Halo CE mappers to help promote our maps. It's going to be hard to stand out as individuals, especially individuals trying to make legitimate, playable maps. Stunt tracks, Rube Goldbergs, and Super Mario remakes are going to bury us.

Well, if Reach really takes off, I could see Modacity reforming around Reach maps.
If we become large enough, we could even become a selector of Bungie favorites, giving our maps out to the world.

You'd really need an actual team for stuff like this (yes, I'm captain obvious). Unlike Sapien, it's cooperative (both game wise and communication wise). So you can have all of your team in game doing their parts. You'd have maybe two or three geometry guys working on an agreed layout or just messing around. As they mass out respected parts of the level you then have populators start fielding the world with weapons and decorators. Then you have the game type people come in and populate the currently loaded game type's data (spawn points, objectives, etc). You can also have people in testing things while parts are still being worked on. They can make sure objects are completely aligned, or that one weapon doesn't favor one side, etc. It's a very multithreaded process, everyone can be doing their part at almost the exact same time, and communicate in real time.

Because of that, old habits and ideas used in HaloCE map making don't really apply or need to be reworked to fit in. The "team" would now become a squad, with multiple teams of people underneath it. Each team would be working on a different map. Like say, due to the networked ability of Forge, you can now have 5 people doing the same work at the same time as just one.

This enables you to truly start to compartmentalize your work force. Think of it as the the "hyperthreading" age of map making. We use to run on single cores (one person working in one editor) but now we have multiple cores (multiple people working in the same editor).

You wouldn't want to advertise until you have something solid. That is, known squad\team members and their responsibilities in their respected departments.

E: the team could also go by HEK: Halo Editing Kids :downs:. You know, only add more ambiguity to Halo acronyms like Custom Edition did lol.

Remember that there can only be 8 people in Forge together at a time. There could also potentially be a lot of passing the map around between people because of this; you'd have to make sure not to edit your share of work until the map comes back to you.

This is definitely an interesting idea though, and I'd be down for joining a team. Granted, I'd want to get hands-on with the new Forge first and create something worthwhile on my own before teaming up with anyone.

Well, I know I'm not an extremely active part of this community or something, but I have worked with Forge for a while and would really enjoy to actually be a part of something like this (that is, if you guys would be willing to let me join in on it). I really think something like this could lift off, considering you already have plenty of experience in level design (versus most of these teams that simply make a map based on what they think looks cool, and the gameplay is terrible as a result)

I'm probably going to try my hand at some Unreal maps first. Deck, Facing Worlds and Curse to start off with. I've got some plans to make two opposing star destroyers with an asteroid/debris field in between. Each would have a hanger with 4 banshees and 4 falcons on constant respawn, with teleporters to some exterior shade turrets for defence. Depending on how customisable the invasion gametype is, the goal will be to destroy, capture certains rooms or objects within the opposing star destroyer.

Also, the moment I saw that waterfall I though about how good a fissure falls remake would be there.

I still wish this game would let you throw in AI in forge. Make your own sorta campaign and firefight maps and such.
Just have a system similar to Timesplitters were you set up each individual AI how you want (Patrol, Spawn and attack, etc.) I would probably stop playing other games altogether if it had that.

On another note, I do not see how Bungie can't enable 4 player split screen co-op. Anyone remember this glitch in Halo 3?

Except when you hit a cortana screen effect, then it doesn't work fine. Stuff like that is why things get cut. Bungie doesn't just cut things just for "lulz", it's due to technical (generally, performance) issues that they either can't fix on the platform, or don't have the time to fix.

Their test labs are a lot more serious than just a couple of kids playing normally via a glitch. 4 player split screen would have to perform without FPS and other issues in ALL test cases before they would bless off on it. Try having players spread out across 4 parts of a campaign map (more detailed, larger, and packed with various AI systems, etc than the MP maps), with one or two of them actively engaged in battle. I bet you it won't perform like it does with only 2 players.

As for AI in Forge, if HEK's Sapien is any indication, getting AI to work right would be extremely confusing and irritating for players, no matter how nice a GUI you wrapped around it. The nature of AI and encounters and scripting is so complex that I can understand why they left it out. It would be undeniably awesome, but then, it would be undeniably awesome if the game had 80 hours of unique campaign to explore. Some things just aren't feasible.

Can't say I'm surprised. I remember reading either in the Weekly Update or on NeoGaf that they changed the way the scene from the VGA Reveal Trailer looked. Still looks like one damn beautiful game nonetheless.

Also, according to CVG, the trailer wasn't the surprise. Keep checking CVG (http://computerandvideogames.com) to see what it is. Probably nothing special, but any Reach info is good Reach info, right?

Looks like he's protecting a civilian or something there's definitely a leg that moves independently infront of him (in brown/khaki pants by the looks of it) - so could be another injured person he's protecting, in that scene it also looks like he moves out of the way of the elites slightly, so he's still moving.

I absolutely loved this 'teaser' though, graphically the game looks really good, and I'm excited to experience the story on September 14th more than ever now.

That would be so cool, i'd also like to see Six split up from the remaining members of Noble Team at this point - kinda like a stealth mission. TBH I honestly don't know where there going with this campaign but it seems to interest me more then any Halo campaign has before - let's see how this evolves.

Also peeps, are the new design covenant ships frigates? Just trying to place the design, as in a halo game we've seen Assault Carrier (ie. over New Mombassa) and Battlecrusiers (Truth and Reconciliation) - which i'm sure we'll see again in Reach, but the new ones that you can see in Space and a couple of times in the trailer... So are those new ones in reach, Frigates?

In today's military, each person carries on them two id tags, so I'm pretty sure he is just holding a set of one.

Could be a fellow marine/soldier's. SIIIs are after all fielded from regular service, not from childhood. Or it could be a Spartan who is "MIA".

I don't know if there's a list anywhere, all I remember offhand is that the DMR and Needle Rifle have larger mags and Armour Lock doesn't affect enemy shields the way it used to when it popped. Hell, even if they removed the RoF cap altogether on the pistol, it would only work well at range when pacing your shots. At least this means it's not the be-all end-all CQB-spamtastic weapon as well. Lord knows we don't need a Pistol out-classing the already overly-nerfed Shotgun.

Yeah, I remember doing a lot of bitching to you and other people over XBL about how bad the shotgun was in Reach. In Halo 3 it had damage, but no range whatsoever. In Reach it finally got some range, but now it has no damage again like the H2 one. :|

You kidding? At a decent distance a shotgun was a one-hit death machine at anything within a 1.5 meter range. You didn't even have to follow up with a melee anymore.

On Powerhouse, Shotgun or Pro Pipe were the first things I went to. People all dashed for the hammer, and I could take them out no problem.

A few days ago we released Halo: Reach to Xbox Certification. Assuming things go well in certification, that means the only things standing between you all and Reach are the manufacturing process and shipping the discs to stores. It’s been a long haul getting the game to this point but the team is incredibly proud of the game and can’t wait to play with everyone on September 14th.

A few folks from Bungie will be travelling all over the world in the next few weeks to demo the game: Brian Jarrard and Niles Sankey are currently touring Europe, I’ll be headed to Oceania soon, and Chris Opdahl and David Allen will be taking Asia by storm in August. I've pre-ordered with GAME - Express delivery. Legendary edition too. But I'm picking up a spare/extra copy at the midnight launch too (just normal copy) at my local Gamestation with a friend - just going to play SP all night then gain the benefits of the Legendary Edition in the day some time, also fuck sleep once reach is out. I've used GAME for years now and never had any problems, always good service and here on or before release day.

I swear Bungie has been spying on me and stealing all my ideas from BCE. That thing is extremely similar in design and appearance to the AA guns placed on the bridge between the Mannheim Towers. Granted, that AA gun was loosely based on the AA guns in Halo 2, and it's likely this one was as well, but still. Reach and ODST seem to have beat me to a ton of the ideas I had. That's what I get for letting my project die. Sad day. :(
Well, I can at least take satisfaction in the fact that some (read: most) of my ideas made it to life in some form or another, even if I had nothing to do with it. :)

Hunter, the screenshot mentions to swap the armour ability, this has been known about since just after the beta while the hologram was shown about 3 weeks ago...
The civilian truck shot is in campaign, it's part of one of the earlier levels, not in forge.

The Falcon seats five for campaign dramatics, but when you fly the friendly skies, you’ll only be able to cart three into the battlefield. You on the stick and two friends on the guns. In campaign, you’ll run into a few different configurations, including one outfitted with some meatier mounted guns, but in multiplayer, the only armaments are the two machine gun turrets dangling dangerously over the side rail.
That stinks you can only have three people in a Falcon in mp, but I guess its to prevent people from getting overkills or killtaculars using a laser. Hopefully in co-op though you can use the passenger seats.

Granting you can make a warthog a Hill in KoTH. I'm going to attempt to make a banshee a Hill, and give everyone else scorpions...I'm curious to see how that will turn out.

I will not be using it.Think of it as scenery. A ton of games use forklifts and civilian vehicles as static environmental objects; Bungie just made it so that they were drive-able.

I doubt that you can resist the all-mighty awesomeness of the forklift. I, for one, will be using it as often as possible. Why? For shits and giggles :)

You guys don't get it,

1. Get a player on your team to drive the forklift.
2. Get all of the other players on your teams to pick up turrets, rockets, greande launchers.
3. Have your entire team ride on top of forky.
4. ????

The Brute and Hunter clips were from the ol' Firefight trailer released some time ago, the covenant carrier scene in space is from a couple of clips, but specifically the E3 campaign trailer, and the Warthog/Banshee scene is from the latest campaign preview.

Also, am I odd for preferring the Elite General's armor over the Field Marshall's? Sure, the erecto-helmet is a bit odd, but those illuminations are lovely in my opinion.

I was always under the impression that "Heretic" was just a load-out or two given to the Elites that allow them to spawn with human weapons. :/
