I knew my last thread would get purged after April folly's ended.

Anyway:

H2V will not start:

Asked ThePlague where you would stop the cryptographic-service, rename catroot2 in system32, blah blah blah...didn't work.

I should give up, but the figuring out the problem is more important than the game.

So, is H2V the only Live service running? I had no problems at all playing H2V on Windows 7 64 bit.

Your problem may be with Win7 itself. Some things to consider:

Is it a legal copy?

Have you modified the running/start-up services?

Do you have any other Live games to test?

Yes, one of the double digit number of people that do.

Which start-up services? (as far as i know, no)

No I don't have other LIVE games to test.
I DID have batman arkham asylum before this and couldnt sign into live because i didnt have internet at that time so I made an offline account, I was wondering if that would do anything?

Other than SecuROM, Batman shouldn't have affected anything.

You may just want to download another game that uses GFWL and uses that same set of keys as Halo 2. Pyong knows this part better than me, so you'll have to find him for that.

GFWL might just be fucked too. Right now the standalone client doesn't even work, and GFW hasn't come out with a fix yet (they know about it, at least).

Yes, Live is crap compared to Steam but another Live game would help you know where the issue is, to bad you don't have one.

(Shadowrun is a game that works with a H2V key BTW, or it did.)

This helped me get Live working on Server 2008 64-bit:

1) Insert the Halo 2 DVD
2) Run Startup.exe on the Halo 2 DVD
3) Install the game
4) Install XLiveRedist1.0.6027.msi and vcredist.msi from the \redists dir on the Halo 2 DVD.
5) Copy xinput9_1_0.dll to system32 for the game to work.

Gears too =D

I'll try that out ASAP resinball. I did something similar to that method, up to the part where you install the xlive_redist and that didn't work.

Also (2 times of the 10) when I disconnected my laptop from the internet, it worked, of course when I plugged it back in, it wouldn't sign into LIVE of course (then again it said the network adapter had no internet ip)

Isn't this a multiple NIC/IP issue (any network stuff, even bluetooth)? Was an issue before...

Your h2v key should work for any game that isnt dirt 2, including bioshock 2.

Syuusuke
April 2nd, 2010, 10:15 PM
I don't remember encountering it like that, but do you think just disabling an NIC would work?

Also resinball, the xinput download link takes me straight to filedropper's homepage. I don't know if I should be using that specific xinput file, but I googled it and found another one, and btw, which replaces the one that already exists (but the one i just got is a bigger file size).

No go:

after the initialization error, an:

xlive.dll error

Now using batman arkham asylum, freakin patch and live update is taking forever, shouldn't have done it but oh freakin well...
ive got a feeling that it wont work so what im going to do is bootup in a clean startup with windows 7 to see if there is anything conflicting or whatever bs that goes on

:O say what??

Limited: Yeah, all the GFWL games (up to some point in time) use the same set of keys.

Syuu: Don't forget to run the SecuROM removal tool when you're done with Batman. No sense in creating more problems than you already have. :P

securrom is credit to anti-piracy hawhawhaw

Also running selective startup with only original boot configuration worked.
but i had no internet
So i decided to bootup normally with no initial internet conneciton and BAM it worked.

And sure enough when I connect to the interweb, the error comes back

and batman works

wtf is xlive's problem. So just for fun I used skarma's "xliveless" xlive.dll and of course it worked.

what the hell.

Besides a reinstall (as the long solution where you do not learn the true answer to your problem) it sounds like it could be networking issue. Network drivers? Any other problems with any other apps when you are online?

You mentioned selective startup so you may know but:

START -> RUN -> MSconfig

and

START -> services.msc

...will show you the services and apps that come online during Windows startup. Here is a web site that lists different types of service settings. May help but can also hurt, so note your changes.

are you sure that "fix" over at gamesforwindowslive didn't help. Did you restart the comp after you did it?

Halo 2 Windows 7 Workaround Thread (http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/8958.aspx)

Method 1 (http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/8021/81496.aspx#81496)
Method 2 (http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/8958/83957.aspx#83957)
Method 3 (http://support.microsoft.com/KB/976264)
Method 4 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941208)

Try these out. I doubt it's a network issue because they you'd be having problems with your internet (which clearly you can post fine) It's just an issue with the LIVE game thinking you are already running it.

I'm going to end up reinstalling Windows 7 anyway.

Pretty sure I got the same issue. open the disk and run the setup from there, I think that's how I got that working

though I'm on 32, the error sounds familiar

Waaait.

Aren't Method 1 and 2 (and kinda 4) the same? Method 2 in app form (which I have downloaded and restarted my pc)

Method 3 is new, will try it after doing the catroot2 method again (pointless but whatever)

It was my OS that screwed it up for me. I'm on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and it works without problems. It was Home Edition :\

Bug report (http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/t/12776.aspx)
Here's a post by someone who has explored the error and a solution to fix it. It's a very vague solution but it narrows it down quiet a bit. Hope you can solve your problem.

Syuusuke
May 11th, 2010, 04:27 PM
I also saw this solution, it didn't work for me.

Resinball
May 11th, 2010, 06:27 PM
This method takes time simply because it requires another OS and possibly repartitioning on your part...well, it worked for me, unintentionally BTW.

-Installed H2V on a separate partition/hdd while running Windows Server 2008 x64 (you could just stop here if you like 2008)

-Installed Windows 7 x64 on a separate partition/hdd.

-Started (NOT INSTALLED, started) H2V from Win 7, I believe I had to update it again (through Live, should be automatic)

*If you know nothing about installing OSes or the like then do not attempt this.

I didn't read all the posts so I don't know what been suggested but try running EVERY thing in administrator and/or compatablity mode.

Syuusuke
May 11th, 2010, 10:17 PM
I am administrator.

Now here's the delio, thanks for the heads up Resinball, I had already made yet another installation of Windows 7 (I always do) on another partition and installed Halo 2 on that.

It worked.

Now I have to tell GFWL about the the exceeded number of usages on my product key (I got a new motherboard on my laptop, I've activated plenty of times before I that. I'm pretty sure that set it off.) Though why it work on that partition of Win7 (1 day ago) and not the one first started (which was installed pretty recently (about 4 days ago))?
