"On January 30, 1972, 13 people were killed and another 14 wounded - one fatally - when British troops opened fire on a civil rights demonstration in Londonderry.
The image of Father Edward Daly waving his blood-stained handkerchief as he and others tried to save a wounded teenager is recognised the world over.
It came to symbolise one of the darkest days of "the Troubles"."

While it certainly doesn't excuse what happened, putting line infantry in that kind of situation was a terrible idea then and it's a terrible idea now. It shouldn't have take something like this to demonstrate that.

Boston Massacre wasn't as one-sided as American texts would have you believe, so it's not that great of an example.

You'd think they'd have seen what happened with the Kent State two years earlier shootings and been wary of putting themselves into a similar situation...

Yeah I know. Getting hit with clubs, being surrounded by angry disenfranchised people, getting hit by ice balls with rocks and clam shells in them etc.

Don't ever question my knowledge of US history again.
