It has been a while since I've played Halo Combat Evolved and Custom Edition, the reason being the amount of times exception data has gathered on my old computer combined with the fact that the laptop I played on last summer was confiscated for use by my dad ever since March. On my current computer (which is my new one), I have a video card that is insufficient for any multimedia, entertainment, or gaming purposes and I will be receiving my new video card (XFX Radeon HD 5850) in 3-4 days so I can play games again.

The actual dilemma is that I can't find my Halo disc but I did save my CD key on my old computer and I also wrote it down on a piece of paper (which I have kept in a dust-collecting book on my shelf) a while ago just in case anything happened to my Halo disc.

Now, I'm looking for suggestions as to how I could install Halo without using risky methods that may foreshadow antivirus pop ups or an infected computer.

Thank you.

MU

You can use the HaloCE installer without a disc. It will just ask you for your CD key, which you say you have so you should be all set. HaloPC IIRC requires you to have the disc for installing but no one gives a fuck about that lame game.

You need to have PC installed before CE, if I remember correctly. I'm uploading the .iso now, you'll have to have daemon tools ( http://www.filehippo.com/download_daemon_tools/ ) or some such to mount and install it.

No you don't. I thought you did too but jcap told me you didn't, so I downloaded the HCE installer and it worked just fine without any CDs whatsoever in my CD drive. You don't need a HaloPC CD to install Halo Custom Edition, nor do you need HaloPC installed. You just need a valid CD key.

Well, I will still be playing Halo PC since I haven't played that in over 2 years - albeit I probably be spending more time in multiplayer rather than campaign as I am curious about the HPC servers (and mods). Regarding HCE, I will also be playing it since I know I've missed out on some new maps released within the last 10 months.

I find it funny that people doubt korn when it comes to HCE.

and HPC is lame, HCE all the way holmes.

Korn is right. I always install HCE without a cd. No sense installing Combat Evloved, since it doesn't support custom maps :p

Well, I started modding Combat Evolved [again] and got up to the process of PMI (process that is used for instance, when one puts a wraith into a map). With CE and the question of modding, I don't know if I'm ready to mod Custom Edition yet.

However I do loathe the limitations of Combat Evolved modding because even with applications such as Sparkedit and Halo Mapping Tools, there are much stricter boundaries compared to Custom Edition modding. It's just that for so long, Custom Edition modding appeared complicated and daunted me.

the process i'm about to describe is illigal... i think first download the halo ce installer. then google "halo key gen" without quotes the one I used is from a website that was very scetchy and the file didn't have an extension if you rn into it just make it a zip file.go through the install process using the keygen afterwards get the update to 1.8 off of hce maps run the update. post which either delete the haloupdate.exe fromt eh halo root directory or change its file extension to bak or something and there you go.

Guess who's about to get totally ban't?

Also PMI is a huge bitch to do. Just mod CE. It's easier.

Yeah. You're better off starting with CE now. I doubt that working with HPC will make you any better at CE modding in a reasonable time frame. Also, if you want to play campaign you can download the CE version of the map files at HaloMaps.

Maybe I forgot to or wasn't clear that I still have my product key, it's just that I lost the Halo CD.

I guess when and hopefully if my computer gets fixed up again, I'll give Halo CE modding a try.

Yeah, I couldn't get certain weapons to spawn correctly in certain maps such as a needler in blood gulch. Creating large skybases and teleportation networks took up a lot of time in Sparkedit. It would be pretty cool to have and experiment graphical changes in CE as it appears quite limited in PC. I hope modding in HCE will take up less time compared to modding in HPC for a beginner judging by your statements regarding the difficulty level of modding HCE.

I guess I have to start looking at how to extract scenarios as the experiment map for a lot of people is usually a default halo map and looking at what kind of tags I want, although the tags part was what daunted me last summer.

Thanks for your feedback!
