So I was looking around, the ownage thread has removed itself from my subscriptions, is nowhere to be found in any of the applicable subforums, and my firefox history turns up an invalid thread. So I made a new one.

I even forgot whether this belongs in here or community or tech talk, so if it's wrong, I'll move it.

It happened to me the one and only time I ever got the pin. I didn't realize I wasn't in a squad somehow so I just ran around doing whatever by myself.

Easy. One squad on the other team had a higher total score than my squad did, and I had the highest individual score.

Also, I consistently beat out all the other vehicle whores. Infantry is like, 15% of my kills, not counting the bailers who jumped out of their tanks before they exploded. I shot down at least seven choppers that game from my tank, with the main gun. Counter-griefed a teammate who stole the Havoc from the enemy base by bucking him into a nosedive with a tank shell, too.

I have to admit though, I do love flying choppers as well... Though I'm certainly not the best pilot out there. I got to level 30 and then started a new character because my old character name was atrocious.

Playing without perks for the first couple of hours is hard.

At least I still have my garand because of my vet status.


I've also started flying the chopper in third person and going into first person to shoot. It's oddly satisfying, and lets you see a lot more while maneuvering to avoid stuff.

Edit: I just realized that's the Ace pin without the best squad pin. I hate those bitches that snipe out of our base and don't cap the objectives. Also, the data is wrong I got at least 7 Kills with the M14. I know I didn't get 12 out of my 13 kills with the M16.

The data does in fact lie. It was the last game I played this morning before going back to sleep. When I jumped on again today I checked the ingame menu for weapons and it said I had 8 kills with the M14. I've never held the M14 before today so that means the postgame report is not always correct.

Really man, do you ever not use vehicles for your ownage? It gets lame after the first three times. Anyone can jump into a helicopter and pwn, provided they have the necessary experience with flying.

Nice. I've only been able to shoot down one helicopter before, it was on Port Valdez. No tracer dart either. I pointed up and shot. Shortly after the BlackHawk exploded and I continued to shoot down the two dudes that jumped out in time. The problem I have with that is that it never counted my shot for some reason, could have been the gay lag that attacks the game from time to time.

I got a few helicopter kills with the RPG-7, even. Back before I ever got the Gustav. I actually unlocked the Gustav with my last RPG helo kill. It was flying about 150 feet above me, circling around A on Atacama. I pointed straight up as far as I could look and fired, and it hit that guy square in the underbelly. I cheered IRL on that one.

I'm also still shooting down choppers with the tank, even after the last patch bugged tracer rounds out of existence. This is baffling to me.

My only helo kill was with an rpg7 on atacama desert. My team was getting thoroughly raped, and I took off and ran to point A (which they had possession of). enemy helo spotted me, and chased me for a bit. I ran into a building, and they bombed it until the upper story was a memory. From my hiding spot downstairs, I could see them get close to the ground, and hover there. They were looking for me, obviously. I ran upstairs and jumped off the roof (which used to be the upper story's floor), firing my rpg in mid air. Helo goes down, and my engineer says "Dat was fo mah homie"

It was awesome.

I recently had a pretty ninja helicopter ride, was flying around as a passenger in a blackhawk, it got hit by a tracer and a rocket was incoming. I used my GOL to snipe the guy that shot the rocket as I was bailing out before deploying my parachute, I then got into another friendly helicopter that happened to fly directly under me as I was falling.

Fuck yes.

Then the pilot flew it into a cliff and we all died.

Medics are kinda expected to run out and revive team-mates. Even if it means putting their own lives on the line.

MG36 is useless in full-auto, burst fire or bust. DPS is probably about the same as most of the semi-auto rifles.

Do you know how much you can make a guy flinch with a lot of bullets? Enough to screw up his aim fatally. I take my M14 with me through every class, and it doesn't afford me that extra flinchy advantage. It also requires me to have very precise aim.

You're absolutely nuts. Have you even updated to R9 yet? R10 is out, even. Here are the damage stats for the AT4, RPG-7 and Carl Gustaf, as of the changes in R9.

760 (against tanks from the back/sides)

The AT4 has the highest damage of all the launchers, the Gustav has the lowest. And its top speed is about the Gustav's once it accelerates. It doesn't depend on losing my sidearm for a tracer dart, and is immune to flares knocking off its guidance mechanism with their new ten-second reload speed. I have good aim. I don't miss a lot with it, and it's a guaranteed outright kill an attack chopper on hit unless the occupants hop out before I hit them, which is unlikely, since they won't hear the beep of an incoming projectile until my last adjustment to send it into their side, and they won't have the advance warning of a lock-on alarm.

This game was close as hell. I started out on the US team, and we proceeded to crush the russians for a third of the game. Then I got teamswitched, so I hopped in the chopper and pretty much kicked the US armor's ass, then spent a while on the ground ruining their air force. We just barely pulled it off. oh FUCK i wish i got a shot of the scoreboard of this Arica round I played today. The teams were so evenly matched, it was hilarious. I was bounding around and flanking people by running to the top floors of houses, jumping off balconies and running around after my pursuers with the 40mm shotgun, and they were doing some similar acrobatics and no-scoping me in the face with sniper rifles, heading me off when I thought I had them flanked, and generally being badass. I was impressed. I still got the ace pin, but that was the most fun and challenging round I've ever played. Fucking thrilling going up against people as tactically savvy as I can be. Laus Nordash on that scoreboard was my goddamn nemesis on infantry maps.

The scoreboard looks pretty bad but the enemy team had a REALLY good level 50 for the majority of the game, he left after I literally ran out of ammo on both guns in my kit, ipcked up and engi kit, ran out of ammo in the primary, found out the secondary was a tracer (fuck my life), and switched to RPG-7 for a direct hit on him. He just said "I can't aim my gun so I use rockets" and then quit.

It's not just the gameplay, it's the game itself. Modern FPS games are the same shit over and over, JK2 was a game that did a lot of truly original and unique things. The depth and variety of gameplay trumps pretty much any action game released since, and they did it without ranks, unlocks, or any other metagame BS.

Not what I meant. SS13's atmosphere code is ridiculously processor-heavy, the old server hardware didn't handle it very well, especially as DM code only runs on one core.

Also, whole games are written in a BASIC-like language which (i don't think it is) is never compiled, and interpreted on the fly. So couple that onto the 1-core, 1 thread, bull you've got a game from 1998.

Only with slugs, man, only with slugs. I use shotguns with shot, and only on Oasis and Arica Harbour. Also only as a Medic, my preferred class for those two maps.

All of the 40mm attachments are one-hit kills (even smoke), so honestly you just need to get over it. Your M14 counts as an OP weapon, kthnxbai. Two shot kill, rapid fire, AND scopes? If that's not OP, then I don't know what is. At least with slugs you have to have a damn good eye to snipe.

The recoil on the M14 more than makes up for the power. That shit you have to handle real well to fire off two rounds in rapid succession and have them both hit the target. That's primarily why I end up using half a clip just for one person sometimes.

Honestly, it takes as much skill to wield an M14 as it does slugs. The M1 takes more skill to use than the M14 simply because it's irons only. Ever since they added scopes to universal unlocks, everybody and his dog plays like a Recon without being a Recon.

K/D is for scrubs. Scruuuubs. I only care that it's above one, and that's about it. The rest is getting as many goddamn points as possible. Being a one man trauma center usually does the trick. I'm the center of the enemy's trauma. I think I reversed a good 1/4 of their kills.

This is what pains me the most. If they at least understood English I could try to help them choose the right weapon. Basically, the Pistol is your jack of all trades. Keep it on you, always. It's cheap, but it gets the job done. I sight jack a bunch of people using the pistol. They aren't leading or aiming for the head. It really saddens me. And you think they'd learn like the rest of us after getting rolled time after time.

Pistol isn't cheap. Most guns in Halo 1 can kill you in a split second if used correctly. Shotgun, sniper, and rocket can all kill in 1 hit where the Pistol takes 3. PP, PR, and even AR can kill really fast at close range when combined with melee attacks. It's just a faster game than its successors.

But yeah, I agree if they even spoke English the server might be less tedious to play in. The autobalance crap gets really annoying too.

All you need to do is know how to lead.The plasma weapons have a stunning effect in the first game that makes them oh-so amazing. The AR was just absolute rape at close range if you can lead the target and make every shot hit. In the Xbox version, it was even more deadly because it felt like there was less bullet spread and the gun was basically a laser at medium-short range.

I always rejoice when I get killed by a dude using a Plasma weapon. Plasma weapons are weak, but when used appropriately it brings me joy to see somebody who actually understands how the weapons work in the game. I remember this one guy who used a plasma rifle from range to stun me and close the distance. Then he pulled out a shotgun and pumped a single burst into me to bring me down. I was impressed.

I just started playing the game like a week and a half ago. I'm proud of what I accomplished at my level. Two one-shot double kills in one game (both on this hilarious lane team of a Mordekaiser and a Rammus) is more than enough to satisfy me.

I just hit level 30 so I've been playing awhile. I usually play Nocturne, starting to like Wukong but he's OP and gonna get nerfed like mad. Lux is pretty ballin' though, to be expected from Garen's little sister though.

The fact that their Morde went 1:6 speaks a lot to their skill level though, Morde is probably one of the easiest and most powerful champs in the game... He's like an AP Carry Tank.

Yeah, we pretty much zoned them out. They were too afraid of us to do anything. I had a Maokai buddy, which I've found is a pretty great champ to lane with as Lux. Maokai can tank, has a damage reducing AOE ultimate, and a snare. A team where both champs have a snare is pretty much death for any melee champ that walks into its path. And considering Light Binding can snare two champs at once AND does damage, it's pretty much E, Q, R, Double Kill a lot of the time, especially if the other team isn't playing too well.

Fuck Blitzcrank, though. Seriously.
