The European Parliament has voted against the controversial Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) that aimed to enforce intellectual property rights and combat the trade of counterfeit goods. The law had previously been approved by all EU countries, including Ireland, as well as a number of other countries including the United States, Canada and Japan. However, the European Parliament’s failure to ratify the process means that neither the EU nor its individual member states can join the agreement, casting doubt on the future of the treaty.

keep in mind that the -main- reason this shit got voted down isnt because HURR DEMOCRACY

it's because the wording was vague enough to be applicable to anything and everything and such.
NOT because people everywhere protested like hell

i'm sure a BUNCH of people there voted no because they feel like they actually represent the people (As they should) but i really doubt the majority feels that way.

They're not exactly powerless, but they are brainless.

Our Politics also strives off of a bureaucracy, so shit never really gets done unless there's a fuck ton of hype involved from somewhere.

As true as this is, I still believe the concept that they lack a mind of their own....or if they do have one they are completely self-centered.

While the court referral has attracted the lion share of attention, there is an alternate secret strategy in which Canada plays a key role. According to recently leaked documents, the EU plans to use the Canada - EU Trade Agreement (CETA), which is nearing its final stages of negotiation, as a backdoor mechanism to implement the ACTA provisions.

the thing is, it takes EVERYONE to be proactive to stop shit like this happening.
but when it comes to humanity as a whole because we're lazy as fuck and conditioned to NOT care about politics at all except for ridiculous issues, we remain responsive.

but if we miss the time or find out late and it's already happened. we're fucked.
welcome to humanity.

it's a problem rampant in our society, as soon as something drops off the front page of the newspaper or out of peoples' facebook updates it's completely forgotten about
