I could have sworn that I had made a thread about JustCause2 before, but the search feature is like "waaaaa, I'm a little bitch, just & cause are too common to search for". vB, what shitty shit forum software.

Anyway, with wind of JustCause3 in the air (in the coming years), and with JC2-MP recently revived and in beta (http://www.jc-mp.com/), I thought I'd make one.

Also, JC2 is currently on the Steam Summer Sale poll...for -75% off, so it should go for less than 5$ if it wins. Only four hours left.

Also, I've posted on the JC-MP forums about joining their dev team (http://www.jc-mp.com/forums/index.php/topic,245.0.html). I thought about getting in on JC modding a while back (http://www.justcause2mods.com/forum.html?func=view&catid=20&id=10602), but the community was pretty dry back then.

Just Cause 2 is ridiculously fun. Shitty plot, but I love blowing stuff up while performing all kinds of impossible vehicular stunts.

One fun thing to do: Camp at the airports with a heavy vehicle, and grapple on to airplanes as they take off, while attaching the other end to your vehicle. The results can be pretty hilarious.

there's still hope. Keep checking every 8 hours. Sometimes games that lost the vote in the community choice make it onto the flash sales anyway, like the Darkness 2.

Still, $10 is pretty good value for Just Cause 2... but I guess it's worth trying your luck for a $5 deal.

Turns out there's an open source (http://code.google.com/p/jc2mp/) JC2 MP project (not the same devs or code as JC2-MP). Last commit was in May tho.

Public testing is available this weekend. Whether you're a bastard who pirated while the game was $3.74 or you're too legit to quit, it should be working. Make sure you disable any mods that are installed to prevent random crashing.

It was pretty damn fun playing MP. :D

JackalStomper
July 30th, 2012, 01:39 AM
Played a couple hours, got into a chopper and killed a ton of people.
Glitchy as hell, desyncs, laggy players.
The chat function is entirely useless, just full of fuckheads coming from the usual shitpits typing in all caps. First thing to do when joining is hit f4 to turn that off.
This mod still has a looooong way to go.

Still had a bunch of fun playing with friends though, feels cool when you have others trying to kill you and your buddy flies in low with a jet so you can grapple out of there.

Amit
July 30th, 2012, 01:42 AM
Game worked remarkably well for me. I played with jets, planes, helicopters, cars, boats...everything and nothing lagged or glitched for me. Although, there was a very heavy framerate drop from all the people in the server. I've got some videos. I put together one of the airport that is uploading right now. I'll post it when I wake up.

JackalStomper
July 30th, 2012, 01:49 AM
Never had framerate issues, my biggest annoyance was when trying to perform the flyby's I mentioned earlier and the game desyncs and shows the plane being like 50km away. That and buildings randomly losing their collision, have no idea how this mod is related to that.
There's also the problem of having no vehicles spawn outside of bases/towns save for the occasional boat, meaning everyone ends up hanging around airports.
Also players that literally walk through 20 rockets without a scratch. Whats up with that?

ODX
July 30th, 2012, 09:55 AM
I couldn't kill anyone...at least, I don't think I did but people killed me plenty of times. The animations for other people were laggy, such as ones who would get onto my car and instead be flying behind me.

And yeah, chat was stupid due to the sheer amount of people in there. At first I didn't find much entertainment, but after people kept giving coordinates to "Pie Island," it started to get pretty fun. I would pick some people up every so often, take them to the island and we'd sit there either driving off the tractor that spawns or grappling on to low-flying jets.

But yeah, still a long way to go. Really kind of hope they can get the AI working, otherwise I don't think I'll find much entertainment from this unless Kornman and Amit are really fun guys.

Amit
July 30th, 2012, 10:19 AM
Well I spawned near a chopper my first time into the MP so I jumped in it and headed straight for the airport. This is what ensued:

Well, you guys should petition to make it an open source endevour, or to have me join the team :P (I've actually already tried the latter (http://www.jc-mp.com/forums/index.php/topic,245.0.html))

A few notes:

* They haven't got on-foot weapons syncing to work last I checked
* The server, as far as I can tell, isn't like haloceded, where it's an actual game process. It's built from the ground up, and really just acts as one big hub/switch. Because of this, a lot of the game logic is left to the clients still (eg, health). This is how they're able to handle so many players right now (also due to the fact that they don't really sync that much stuff)
* When the project is out of beta, they will release the dedi exes.
* Also, vote for Squirrel (http://www.jc-mp.com/forums/index.php/topic,332.0.html). Fuck that Lua baby shit.

I'm actually really interested in creating some OpenSauce-esque (http://code.google.com/p/just-open-sauce/) mods for this, but they would just be for the engine, as I don't have the time to work on some kind of MP mod myself (and the open source jc2-mp codebase (http://code.google.com/p/jc2mp/) is rather...ugly). I've already got a good chunk of the game's code framework documented (asked the IDA Pro devs to add the ability to remove the license header, so I can safely release my IDB of the exe).

Amit
July 30th, 2012, 01:51 PM
Those people shit on your thread. I have no idea what squirrel is, but most people are voting for LUA. Apparently LUA scripting is easier? But is it limited or something?

Kornman00
July 31st, 2012, 01:01 AM
Squirrel was made by taking the good ideas in Lua, and doing away with the bad ones. It's also more C based, than Basic (any language which spells out "begin/end" can die in a fire) like Lua is. Squirrel would be more powerful, but Lua *may* be easier for *some* because it's used in other wanker games (so it's just familiarity). One of the devs said it best in that thread, you don't want to implement a shoddy language that is 'easy' but limited where some half-asses try to do something but never amount to anything, and have these programmers/designers who know a thing or two about scripting or programming and want to do some really interesting stuff but are instead limited to pleasing the least-common-denominator. Game mods shouldn't be treated like how American education is.

My bet is people are jumping on the Lua bandwagon because that's what a few others have said. Then said it would be "easier", when really they should have said more "familiar". However, if you've ever done C++/C#/Java you should pick up Squirrel without too much of a problem.

Really, some really good points against Lua were already made in that thread, go read it.

They're hosting another public beta this weekend

Amit
August 9th, 2012, 01:58 PM
Yup.

New Features
Added weapon sync
Added animation sync
Added 2,100 new vehicle spawns

Bug Fixes
Fixed issue related to respawning
Greatly improved player sync
Standardised weapon damage across player and agents

Fucking 2100 new vehicle spawns and health bars. Things are about to get a lot more interesting.

ODX
August 9th, 2012, 05:27 PM
I hope that player sync means people don't float behind cars anymore when they try to jump on them. Same with planes and such.

And please let the vehicle spawns mean planes are much more abundant now...

Side note: Us three really gotta get together somewhere on the island and do whatever.

Apparently there are teleport commands.

/tp airport (takes you to the main airport)
/tp airport# (takes you to various other airports)
/tp mansion
etc

Just type it into chat, it's pretty handy.

Edit: To see all the places you can go, just type in something random after it so like "/tp kkjaskdfja"

ODX
August 11th, 2012, 08:23 PM
Yeah that really sucks. I kept trying to teleport into Mile High Club (MHC) but some dickwad kept sitting there with a grenade launcher. I got away multiple times but then I couldn't kill him, or at least I didn't see me killing him. Damn player sync.

Amit
August 11th, 2012, 11:41 PM
I tried teleports in the last public test and they didn't work. Good to hear they work this time. The best is spawning relatively close to a military airport. Just grab the awesome jets and run to Panau International and fuck shit up. I took more videos over 6 horus ago so I'll see about getting them on youtube.

again its just the lack of good vehicle spawns outside of airports that makes everyone go to them.

Amit
August 13th, 2012, 11:31 PM
Well they did add 2100 new spawn areas in the last test. And I'm pretty sure that's not the allure of the airport. Panau International is a hub for player carnage, not just because of the amount of vehicles that spawn there, but because they fucking fly. Everyone wants to fly lol

=sw=warlord
August 14th, 2012, 09:33 AM

There were quite a few nice spawns outside the airport, that's how I got my helicopter.

Oh, and something to keep in mind whenever we play: we can make our own faction (/f create [Name]) and then teleport around to each other as long as we're all in that faction (ex: /f tp ODX). Super neat and useful.

Kornman00
September 16th, 2012, 05:59 PM

Bought this during the summer sale but played it for the first time a couple days ago. Hella fun but I doubt I'll play the single player very much; the story is awful and I really don't like the UI. But the MP looks awesome, hopefully I'll get a chance to play it soon.

ODX
September 22nd, 2012, 03:56 PM
I actually enjoyed the story only because I didn't take it seriously, and neither did the story itself. That's what makes it enjoyable.

Plus, a lot of the missions are hella fun and crazy. Because the game doesn't take itself seriously. It's awesome. I laughed a lot. Seriously. Play it all.

haha, agree with everything except what's in bold. But it's meant to be ridiculous and over-the-top, so I like it that way!

MP Testing this weekend. Download the client here (http://static.jc-mp.com/topsecret/client.zip?nocache=1350087580.7662).

They fixed the sync issues with stunt jumping on vehicles. No more players lagging in the air behind your vehicle. Also, players on your vehicle affect its handling. Leaning into a corner of a car will affect its ability to turn. It's all shown in this video:

Mother of God: Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod dev explains a new game mode, shows customizable armies (http://www.pcgamer.com/2013/05/30/just-cause-2-multiplayer-mod-dev-explains-a-new-game-mode-shows-customizable-armies/)

Man those JC-MP wizards have done it again! They have revolutionized the massively multiplayer online sandbox game! On Monday, one of the Just Cause 2 Muliplayer devs made a post at JC-MP.com detailing a multiplayer game mode called faction wars. It basically emulates the story's faction wars, but fleshes it out much better for multiplayer interaction.

The following links are to images that are from the original post.

Features

Built on JC2-MP, so servers support up to 1000 players and it's actually fucking stable (https://www.jc-mp.com/forums/index.php/topic,1318.0.html)
Custom in-game faction wars menu (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00008.jpg)
Create factions
Invite / remove members
Request alliances /declare war with other factions
Customize faction vehicle colour (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00010.jpg) and player models
Group up with faction members using the squad system (8 squads of 6 people = 48 total people) (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00009.jpg)
Squad mates and their health bar show up on the PDA and minimap for easy organization
Capturing certain bases/facilities grant access to one of two types of shops for military vehicles (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00011.jpg) (e.g. airport sells helicopters, fighter jets (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00012.jpg), and big transport plane that acts as a mobile spawn point)
Spawn Menu shows up at launch / after death (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00014.jpg)
Class selection: Assault, Medic, Sniper, Infiltrator, Support. Each class has certain attributes (e.g. only Assault has armour, only support spawns with rocket launcher)
Player loadout selection screen for weapons (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00013.jpg)
PDA map shows faction territories and friendly radar stations show radar sweeps (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00004.jpg)
In-game HUD shows facility statuses (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00006.jpg)
370 bases to capture (lush environment not compromised (http://static.jc-mp.com/factions/2013-05-27_00007.jpg))
Cash and Score is earned periodically based on the amount, and type of bases your faction controls.
Limitless factions, limitless destruction!
Class Descriptions

Assault: Heavily armoured, has access to most of the best weapons, relies heavily on having a Medic at his side to heal him and a Support to provide him ammo.
Medic: Heals faction members around him. Has access to Assault Rifle / Shotgun.
Sniper: Has access to the deadly sniper rifle, relies heavily on a friendly Support for ammo.
Infiltrator: This class isn’t finalized yet, the concept I’ve come up with is that this class will play a vital role in assaulting serious faction bases. I had the idea of giving this class the ability to ‘hack’ into an enemy radar tower and temporarily disable the radar for 20-30 seconds, giving his faction members time to move through an area undetected.
Support: Infinite ammo is out! Everyone needs it, everyone will love having a Support with them. Supplies ammo to nearby faction members, is the only class that has access to the Rocketlauncher for disabling enemy tanks. The downside to spawning with the Rocketlauncher is that it occupies your main weapon slot, so if you’re an anti tank Support, you will only have your sidearm pistol available if you run into enemy infantry.
