hey, uh

do people still go here? do people still care about halo? we finished our mod:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joBvfJJkELQ

it's the last halo project for a lot of us (including teh lag, siliconmaster, and myself), so it's kind of a special thing

here's the big release post with the download links and everything:

(Here are more pictures!) (http://imgur.com/a/yr1B3)

---------

From the readme...

The Silent Cartographer: Evolved (TSC:E) is a ground-up re-imagining of the Halo: Combat Evolved map of the same name. The map comes with an all-new layout, a vast array of custom content, a reconstructed weapon set emphasizing improvisation and variety in tactics, and plenty of hidden secrets to discover. It is the final Halo CE project for many of CMT's members - a labor of love and hate spanning almost three years of development.

TSC:E makes use of Open Sauce, a community-made game extension that enables many new features, from upgraded visuals to new gameplay mechanics. Open Sauce is required to play TSC:E -- the map can't exist without it. At the time of writing, OpenSauce's public releases are available here: https://bitbucket.or...lease/downloads (https://bitbucket.org/KornnerStudios/opensauce-release/downloads) . The map requires Open Sauce version 4.0 (or newer).

Open Sauce 4.0 requires a properly-installed copy of Halo Custom Edition, updated to 1.10. See the installation guide if you don't know how to get these.

This map comes with a user manual providing information on difficulty and weapon usage (among other things). Evolved treats difficulty and many weapons differently from some other Halo games - which may be disorienting to new players - so be sure to read the manual!

---------

Issues encountered while playing the map may be reported in this thread.

The map does have a few rare (but known) issues, which will be addressed if possible in a maintenance release shortly after the initial launch. If you are reporting a crash, be sure to include your crash dump (if you have one). If the game crashes with Open Sauce installed, you can find the crash dump on your computer in My Games\Halo CE\OpenSauce\Reports\CrashRpt.

If you are encountering an Open Sauce-specific issue, please direct your reports to the issue tracker at https://bitbucket.or...ensauce-release (https://bitbucket.org/KornnerStudios/opensauce-release) .

---------

A short time after release (likely within the next month), there will be a public release of all source files for the map that we can reasonably organize and distribute. Until then, we urge you to use caution if you choose to extract tags from the map. Open Sauce and the HEK+ do not get along well, the HEK+ is known for corrupting tags in general, and there are many aspects to the Evolved tagset that have the potential to cause serious problems with other tagsets if you don't know exactly what you're doing. (We also encourage you to have a heart and give the map at least a little time to shine before you make CMt Evolved Reach_gultch). More details are provided in readme_for_ripping.txt.

Is the UI made for 16:9 or did OpenSauce improve its widescreen HUD stuff?

Congrats on the release.

HUD scaling in OS respects screen anchors now.

Since OS doesn't work with HAC2, is the OS map downloading feature just as complete of a database?

Played a little of this just now, looks great guys! Now finish remaking all the other maps! :P

FireScythe
March 3rd, 2015, 04:34 AM
No i'm more selective than that. I see what maps are being requested and being run on servers every now and again and add missing ones to the database. The only master servers running are Halomods.com and TheFieryScythe.co.uk and I can't afford the hosting for thousands of maps.

Awesome! Nice surprise to come to after work!
Shame this might be the last good quality mod release for halo PC though....

Could always just nuke your install its not like halo is a large game by modern standards.

Could always just nuke your install its not like halo is a large game by modern standards.Ended up doing that, but the new OS installer wouldnt recognize the old version as uninstalled, so I had to reinstall OS using the old setup tool and then re-uninstall it with the setup tool. What a nightmare.

I'll be releasing a patch for this shortly.

Siliconmaster

Thanks Btcc, we've been so busy and stressed getting everything just to work smoothly at all that there was never any time for HAC support. If you are able to get them both working together that would make a lot of people very happy.

Wow... I can see a lot of blood and serious sweat work into this project than before, other than Lumoria project of course*. Other than that, I can see some serious improvement in the game engine with optimized scripts it seems.

The only noticeable issues...

When melee near an object, such as covenant's weapon cargo. Part of the weapon and arm are gone. (It's odd enough to know it is not THAT close to you.)
After going in a room to unlock the door, the marines got off of the vehicle, after you got off too, and never went back on. In fact, they just don't do anything except stand there and look toward the ocean.

Not noticeable issues... (may or may not be a bug in halo's engine or script)

Hunter is glitching when looking up as if it's looking up & down at same time. (lol)
As part of H-Ext developer, I have certain things output on my console to be sure, I noticed a lot of deletion increment in milliseconds some time 2/3 toward end of the mission. Is this supposed to happen or is it a garbage collection script doing it? Just asking...

* I might forgotten some other great projects to mention here...

[off topic]
If others are wondering, latest H-Ext is still compatible with OS v4.0 (even the patch for manifest into halo's executable). BUT cannot promise it will not crash nor mess up the gameplay experience.

Issues:

Flashlight doesn't iluminate level geometry on my graphics settings (mostly low/off)
There's some phantom geometry I got my ghost (but not the player) stuck on around the first row of crates in the path infront of the cartographer exterior space.
You put those towers around the island and don't let me go there? Come on :P
The marines are retarded (but they were probably always like that)
Almost no shotgun support (it seemed pretty OP the 18ish shots I did get)
The wraith was surprisingly difficult to maneuver.

things I loved:

All the various ways you could approach fights, to the point where stealth was a viable tactic far more than I'm used to in a Halo game
The interior of the Cartographer, the whole thing, I loved the greenroom space and how the sideroom's window was under water into the stream.
The hologram door lock device things, beautiful.
The sky
Most of the guns (AR, PR, Shotgun, Rocket in particular)

Amazing effort. If this doesn't win some awards from somewhere like MODDB, then they'll have fucked up.

This is just amazing. You should get some recognition for your hard work and excellent mod. Maybe put it in moddb.com?

Two times when I was fighting an elite when I turned to cover and was ready to continue they had just disappeared like ninjas :D
Badass rifle was fun and useful. Found it by accident because I thought I saw a door glowing behind a waterfall. Also managed to get on top of some jungle by climbing and nadejumping, then killed some enemies below. Never have I enjoyed a single level so much, this was so vast and I love exploration and adventure!

Why do people uninstall the game anyways, it's peanuts compared to all your games in the steam library you've got sitting on your computer unplayed.

For me, it gets uninstalled when I wipe my disks for a clean windows install.

My brother is having a problem with loading the map. Open Sauce v4 is installed and works fine. He's not able to launch the level with universal UI 1.1. Not even with the console, after setting the game difficulty. The game acts as if he didn't even have the map but he has the .yelo file right there in the maps folder. I checked if he made typos or something in the commands but they were fine. Anyone know what causes this?

Is the hunter gun being able to rapid fire half the battery (maybe the whole battery but I couldn't quite get there) a bug or a feature?

It would appear you found a way to pick up the hunter cannons at all, they are not designed to be used by the player.

It was on the ground about 2m past the brutes grisly totem pole thing immediately after you confront the chieftain with the fuel rod cannon. I was playing on MLG if that matters. I assumed it was an MLG thing.

Hey! I finished the level 2 days ago. It was fantastic. Tons of fun! Great work and congrats on the release!

Found myself taking every opportunity to see what new features you guys put in. E.g: I would elect to board the enemy vehicles instead of driving the warthog through and have the gunner coilgun them to death. I guess that is what I was most impressed by: the new boarding feature. One of my favorite implementations for Halo 2 and onward was vehicle boarding so to see it for the first time in CE was really cool. Great animating! Also, that new ghost is a massacre! Died about 6 times before I successfully got close enough to board one. Great way to make it so that we can't just easily hijack the enemy.

Aside from that, I love the level as a whole. Shading, lighting and texturing are beautiful; really love it when I see lots of effort put into the skybox and environment for custom levels (down to the grass and cliffside rock textures). Love that Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle and their custom sounds.

Was a real pleasure seeing years of hard work finally in motion. 10/10!

Been busy taking a look at the old forums I used to go

Log on h2vista

See new Halo PC Patch, wtf ?

See open sauce, wtf ?

See CMT still kicking around ?

As I saw the weapon menu, before the intro, I was like "Wow nice feature !", and then I saw the Pelicans, the Bump-Mapping on them ( such a illusion back in the days I left), the the blur as the camera velocity change...

And then the war started. I had hard times believing that you would make my work station struggle with such and old game. I saw the elites, I saw the weapons, I saw the multiple melee animations. It was amazing, you made me literally go wow in front of my screen.

And not only it looks nice, but it's so intense, the gameplay, the weapons, the different paths...

It felt exactly like the first time I played Halo Trial,
It felt exactly like 10 years ago,
It felt like 100% Real Halo made in USA,

I will for sure play SPV3.

Thank you. I wish you all the best for what ever you will do.

Just checked this thread again for the first time in a while. Glad you all enjoy the level! We're putting together some behind the scenes articles that should be out at some point.

Keep in mind that the Evolved team and the Spv3 team are completely separate. When a50 came out in 2012 it was essentially led by the Evolved team, but Masterz decided to start a "B-team" to continue "classic" CMT style maps with added guns and some texture changes; nothing as ambitious as TSC:E. Now that TSC:E is over our Evolved team is moving on from HCE. Therefore, don't expect the same level of new stuff from the (in theory) upcoming Spv3 maps.

D: I was hoping to see a AotCR: Evolved.

Sorry, it took us 3 years of nearly full time work to do TSC:E. Lag, Iffy, Bob and I are far too worn out to dive into another large project, let alone another Halo map. We actually considered AotCR as an option when we were planning the new project, but we decided that TSC was a better target for that we wanted to accomplish. Plus all those repetitive rooms in b40 would have meant either leaving them repetitive or redoing an an absurd number of custom rooms.

Does this mean that there will be no more SPV3:E maps produced?

Amit
May 24th, 2015, 04:59 PM
As he said in his previous post, SPv3 is completely separate from Evolved. They are two entirely different tag sets. SPv3 maps are not nearly as impressive as the Evolved stuff, but you are more likely to see SPv3 content in the future since it won't be as much of an overhaul as The Evolved version of The Silent Cartographer was. SPv3 maps are in testing at the moment, if that helps answer your question.
