This is a custom model made by me earlier. IF you make this into tags or use in a map please give me the props.

Since it's called "reference", it's most likely the image he used to model the weapon off of (like a blueprint in the background). If that's the case, then you shouldn't need it.

If you mean add this weapon to a .map file that you've just downloaded, like Coldsnap or something, yes. It's pretty simple too:

Install the Halo Editing Kit
Download HEK+
Back up your tags folder
Open the map (if it isn't protected) and extract all the tags
Since this is just a model (not tags), you'd need to first get 3DS Max
Add markers and nodes to the weapon model
Create animations
Export the weapon's various data files from max
Compile the weapon's data files into tags
Create the other tags associated with a custom weapon (don't forget bitmaps)
Reference your new weapon in the globals
Open the scenario of the map whose tags you extracted into Sapien
Place your weapon in the map and save
Compile the scenario into a .map format
Redistribute the map (don't forget to get the creator's permission!). This way you'll be able to play the map with other peopleHere are some tutorials to get you started:

It's a meh model. I downloaded it and viewed it, it's lacking detail. It's also skinned badly. No UVW's.

i never siad it was a good model just a base model to start on. Oh well i can accept flaming. Well it is free for anyone to use just remember where it came from. Right now i am modelling cars for racing games and i happened to find this while going through my model folder and seeing how there is no public model out there to my knowledge i decided to release this one and see where it goes. Hopefully I will add more detail and make a v2 in the near future.

Good job! The spartan laser isn't very detailed yet, i'd say you are 20% finished and you are on the right track. ;)
the brute plasma rifle and sentinel beam are useful for making the spartan laser. If you do ever complete the spartan laser, please upload it to filefront or to halomaps. Thank you.

This spartan laser is nicely modeled low poly, but an ass with 3ds max 8.

I imported it and the UVs were all fucked up.

I had to spend 45 minnutes just trying to get it to work.

Isn't that the old concept version of the SL? Personally, I think the new one is better, but the concept has a certain look to it that is slightly appealing.

concept version??? well if you can give me a side shot of the new concept i will model that one. Or if anyone who has the halo 3 beta take a screen shot that i can use as reference =) 3rd person is all i need

If you are intending on making an fp then you're going to need an fp referance. What you have right there would not even pass for a 3p, though.

you're looking at the picture wrong. It clearly has the top protective cover on a diagonal track. Look closely.

Get Gmax. It's a watered down version of 3DS, and it's free from turbosquid.com.
