OK forgive my stupidity but i rather be safe than sorry.
I have a HP Pavilion dv5000, now I'm not sure can i plug in this monitor:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=cat3&product_code=346435&Pn=Optiquest_Q20wb_20_inch_Widescreen_LCD_Monitor
Now my laptop has what looks like a couple of adapters for the monitor but last time i tried to plug on in, it didn't work. Would i need to buy more equipment for this?

Thanks,

You'll BE fine, it has a VGA and DVI port. If you have a video card with a video port that is white and larger than the smaller blue port, use the big white one if the DVI cable comes with the monitor. It makes the picture much better and clearer.

Also on some laptops you will either have to hit an F key (ex. F1, F2, F5, etc.) or if you laptop has a function button (fn usually) you click that and whatever key has something that resembles a monitor on it. It would be easier if you posted an image of your system for me.
