I'll wait a month before posting pics of my computer.
I'm building a new one from scratch - sans case and out of gratis parts.
Let's see, there's the Pentium III from my old laptop, the 4gb drive from my '95 Compaq, I can get a motherboard, 512mb of RAM and a power supply as scrap for free... CD drive I only need while installing Ubuntu, so I can get that out of my desktop when needed...
All that's left is a monitor, but I have one that I can use (small LCD TV in my den that will no longer have a purpose - it's being replaced by a 42"...)

Yeah, just wait. I would post a pic of my desktop, but I can't seem to find it.

For future referance, Koolance's water cooling stuff is shit. It is below shit, it is better left in the trash. Get this stuff instead:
Apogee GT ($50) (http://www.petrastechshop.com/swapexpeunwa.html)
Swiftech Stealth Full Cover Block for Geforce 8 series cards ($110) (not completely necessary) (http://www.petrastechshop.com/swstfucowafo.html)
Swiftech MCP655-B Pump ($75) (http://www.petrastechshop.com/lad5smcin12v.html)
Black Ice Pro II 2 x 120mm ($35) (http://www.petrastechshop.com/dadenblicepr1.html)

And 10 feet of vinyl tubing for like $5-10. Then a 2 gallon jug of Distilled water and you should be good. Go for 1/2" tubing.

There you go, for about the same price you get superior cooling on your CPU and GPU that is all self contained within your computer. Hell, you could probably nix the Swiftech Stealth and spend your $100 on something else.

Yea, I'm not using my water cooling on my 8800 right now, just the processor, I'm not OC'ing my GPU yet, so I'm good on that end.

You mean the integrated pump/reservoirs or the entire systems in-a-box? I'm sure that there are some good kits of those out there (besides the Koolance ones). I try to stay away from all-in-one systems though because the performance will almost never equal something like my setup. Especially once I throw my brand new 120 CFM Delta's onto my rad :haw:. Also, all in one systems usually have limited upgradability in terms of how many blocks you can put onto a loop, and when a part fails you have to send the whole unit in to get it fixed. With my loop I can just drain the loop, throw in one of my extra parts (I've gone through many water cooling loops =P) and RMA/replace the damaged part. Not to mention you can build a loop yourself for much much cheaper.

You can beat that watercooling system with an air cooler...

And the PSU, not sure. It could work, if the PSU has enough power on the 12v rail.

Try increasing the voltage to the CPU when you try to overclock it. Also are you overclocking from the bios or a program?

Cortexian
June 30th, 2007, 10:12 PM
@ soccerbummer1104

Increase your VCore voltage to 1.4 then try. I'm running at 2.6 GHz stable right now (I know I can go higher, but I don't need the power right now) and I've had it at 3.0 GHz stable for a week before.

Wait, so you're using some kind of auto-overclocker or something?
*cough* newb *cough*
jk jk. Manually tweak your front side bus until you hit a point where it causes instability. I generally like to try 50-100 mhz intervals. Then up your voltage a little and see if it helps. then just keep on tweaking your front side bus until it is as fast as it will go and still be stable.

Your memory may be limiting your overclock, so try lowering your memory multiplier and seeing if you can go farther. A good tool for testing to see whether your memory is causing problems is called memtest, you burn it to a CD and boot from it and it will stress-test your memory and tell you if there are any problems with your OC relating to your memory.

While unlikely, you may be in a similar situation to me, where your board either won't go above a certain speed because it is getting too hot, doesn't have enough voltage or simply has some kind of front side bus hole. If that is the case, and I doubt it is because you're using a Striker, you'll have to get a different board.

Also, not all chips OC the same.

k i got it up to 3.6 ghz actually, but it idols at 51C's so im a lil scared to boot it up. (says in bios, but it is compoletly stable) so ow im looking for a good water cooling for my cpu. i dont need it for the north bridge, unless it would fit on a complex heat pipe, so what is an excelent cpu water cooler? As for pump, go for a Laing D5. They work well, I own a D4 myself. The D4 and 5 are both 12 Volt DC pumps, which means you can plug 'em into your computer's PSU instead of having to plug your pump into the wall each time you turn it on. It also performs very very well.

Swiftech's version (http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcp655.asp)
DangerDen's version (http://www.dangerden.com/store/product.php?productid=274&cat=23&page=1)

They are the same pump, just with different branding. The setup that Xet posted up there also has some pretty good stuff in it too.

And yes legionaire45, the Striker comes with an "AI-Overclock" feature which lets you overclock 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% I believe. Never works for me though... Tried it out when I first got it, after setting it to %5, PC wouldn't even POST.

Impossible to use without a flat surface, but of course, I've had one hand holding the CPU fan down, so I really haven't been able to test it out.
I'll probably switch to one of the many MS keyboards that litter the room, though, because there isn't a big enough flat surface next to the PC.

Pentium D processors are not "ultra fail". They are actually pretty good, just not in comparison to the new Core 2 Duo processors. If his is indeed overclocked (not underclocked Xet, don't get those two mixed up) it should suit him fine for another year or so.

Hello, I'm guest posting on this account. My usual nick is Moto7451 over at OCForums.

Using your Air Conditioner to cool the inside of your case is actually a good idea. I have a feeling that you may be thinking that this would cause condensation, but this is not the case. Think about it, a cold drink on a hot day forms condensation but a hot drink on a cold day day doesn't. In this way the CPU becomes the hot drink and the A/C makes it a cold day, and dry (air conditioners remove water vapor from the air), inside the case. It's a great way to lower your CPU's temperature. Remember, every degree you reduce the ambient temp, you reduce the CPU's temperature.

From a human comfort stand point... maybe not the best idea but it won't cause the room to be very warm :D.

Please dont confuse yourself with the thought of a air condition (http://forum.overclock3d.net/member.php?u=19)ing unit being a viable way to cool a computer system might cool it down but it's just not preacticle unless your impatient/foolish enough.

And it's attitudes like that which are why no one takes you guys seriously.

Drop the attitude and go join a real computer forum like OCForums and I'll gladly confirm who I am via a PM. Consider it an invitation.

My brother asked me my opinion of Xet's setup and thats why I went ahead and posted that. I don't see why it would be considered unpractical, all it requires is a simple air duct or to put the computer in front of the cold air. How hard is that? When you come inside on a hot day doesn't it feel good to stand in front of the cold air? How difficult is it to do that?

Oh and the proof is in the pudding... er case modding

Well, you can get the case without the secksi paintjob for like $260 (http://www.svc.com/rc-830-kkn1-gp.html) I think. Cheaper after rebates too.

Also, the painted version is actually $899 dollars (http://www.svc.com/coolermaster-cases.html). The price for a paintjob like that is worth it if you're going for a showcase PC, but I would rather ghetto-paint the cheaper one with an airbrush.

The wire that you see in the middle of the panel fell down when I was taking pictures :( But it's back in it's right place now. So just image the side panel without a wire going right through it :) For the most part, I have a pretty clean PC.

The Logitech X-540 speaker system is basically a square Logitech X-530 system with a separate controller for volume. Sound good though.

Yeah I just got them a day ago. I love them, the sound is very crisp and it gets loud for the size of the speakers. Only wish I had a surround for my TV area.

Everyone loves my television. Also it is a g11, but really is the say keyboard though. Also I bought everything on my own... No help at all. and I just turned 18. Got the tv when i was 16, and build the computer 4 months back. The draw back is that I do not have a car. I will soon but no car now. I would say my room is worth (Brand New) $6000.

You guys should see the new logitech g15 keyboard and g9 mouse! Played with them at Quakecon... They are, by far, the best keyboard and mice that will be on the market. The g9 looks/feels kinda like a Fatal1ty mouse, but it's way better.

Dr Dmoney
August 15th, 2007, 12:37 PM
The g11 is the same thing as the g15, only difference is that the g15 has an 1cd screen. Also I love my mouse, no need to change, it is a razer diamondback at 1700dpi. Very smooth. The only problem is the side buttons but I never use them anyway.

Nah, he'd have get off his bed to see the screen. He could either get himself a table for his monitor, mouse and stuff, or he could just sleep on the floor.

The real reason is that I was banned from using a computer for about 1.5 years, and the drawer was an inconspicuous place to hide it.
