That trailer was INSANELY beautiful! All the graphic haters can eat shit now.

AND THE ELITES "BLINK"! How can Miranda hold a shotgun like that?!

I was NOT expecting something this epic! I was smiling the whole time. :D

It looks good, but it seems to play exactly like Halo 2...somehow I get the feeling that the campaign in this insertion is going to lack as well. The Chief's armor still looked like plastic though, sorry.

The Arbiter actually had one of the worst textures there. It actually looked a little worse than the Halo 2 version.

Is that a grunt without a mask I'm seeing in the "A Calm Jungle" screenshot? :O

Yes. And Grunts look possessed with the red eyes...they don't look like the cowardly cannon fodder that they usually are.

And the Arbiter looks better in that screen-shot than in the trailer. Texture popping maybe?

The trailer reminded me of Gears of War. Halo 3 has that sort of cluttered chunky look to it.

I think I like what I see.

But I pray to GOD those are not final animations, and that the chief's textures are fixed. <_<

The environments looked great. The characters, some of them looked worse than in Halo 2. The chief's armor texture seems to look like Halo 2's. I thought they gave it a nice metal/pearl texture ala Halo 1 :\.

Anyways, how is it the Chief gets in a pelican by a Halo? Doesn't make much sense to me.

For whoever's too lazy to download:

KejU-nlJWUk

I think they did a really good job of evening out the player models between Master Chief and the Elites. The Arbiter looks SOOOO AWESOME, too. I'm guessing co-op would involve one person playing as MC and one as the Arbiter.

Also, I'm willing to bet Cortana's gone Rampant. If anybody has played the Marathon series you'd know what I'm talking about. ;b

Halo 3 didn't play like Halo 2 AT ALL, I don't know how seeing cinematics and a few SP clips makes you think that. Graphics looked fine to me. However "fine" is a understatement. I came in jason jones' lucky charms this morning. He wasn't as excited as I was though...

Brutes were fond of the shotgun

Hunters and grunts partied up with the Arb, while jackels partied up with noob brutes.

If I was a grunt, I'd pick the Elite over a brute tbh.

Archon23

Grunts stayed with the Covanent but only out of sheer fear. They say if you kill a brute thats leading grunts the grunts would join you.......

Yeah, the Elites got fucked over and then the (local) Grunts and Hunters, who were always more loyal towards the Elites than the Brutes, broke from the Covenant with them. The Prophets, Jackals, Drones and Brutes stuck together. Perhaps it was just the local groups that clumped up, or perhaps the Hunters and Grunts saw fit to go back... either way, I always wanted us [as in, the humans] to fight alongside the Elites at some point. Hunter allies would be cool, too.

Could it be that at the end of the trailer Master Chief's in High Charity?
I mean.. The architecture looks Covenantish, plus you can tell by the blue and purple colors.. Now why High Charity? Well.. in this shot,

It seems as if there's that Flood like stuff in the background.. I doubt those are rocks.. but I could be wrong..

It's High Charity. There's no way that's Forerunner architecture and the chances of the Ark being a Covenant construct, let alone a modern one, are very low.

Also, those probably are rocks. High Charity's dirt and rock were the same pale brown-grey colour as Flood form skin, and were rather rounded.

Maybe the prophet is there because you have to beat him to the ark's control room. Or you are just going to kill at the beginning.

OMG!!!! That was freaking awesome. Kinda disappointed that we'll have to play as the arbiter but maybe he has some better missions. The destructible scarab, phantom, and pelican was pretty awesome. It goings to be a lot of fun handling with those now. The trailer just makes me pumped and ready to play Halo 3 now!!! Just can't wait!

Shield grenade

That's "Bubble Shield" actually, and it's NOT a grenade. Where have you been?
It's counted as equipment. To me, it seems like a new grenade type. Speaking of which, looks like the Bubble shield just got some cool new effects. The "hexagons" making the shield seem a lot more realistic and like the Bubble Shield in the H3 Ad (CGI), and it's got cool neon lights going around it, probably to make it more noticeable, and also to make it look awesome.

As for the Prophet, that's a hologram, I thought it was pretty obvious.

Oh, and I've just pissed my pants in both excitement and utter fear - BEHOLD!

The light on the bubble shield effect is merely the shield's geometry twisting the sun's rays and reflecting them back.

Yeah, that was Halo 2. Halo 3 Brutes have much more complex armour and different variations.
It could be a low ranking Brute, but I doubt even a low ranking Brute would be in battle with no armour - even Grunts get armour.
And the whole armour doesn't come off, and even if it does, I don't see anything like it on the ground.
The blood below it just seems to be from another Covenant creature, a Grunt of Jackel, since there's a Plasma Pistol amongst the pool of blood.

It just seems too crazy and mad to be an ordinary Brute - even if they are mad to begin with.

Remember halo 2? The forerunner ship was the power generator on High Charity before it was used as an escape ship by the remaining Prophets.

Which, in itself, brings up interesting questions, which I'll leave to other people to think about. <_<

He's asking: "How'd they get the ship to High Charity in the first place, and from where did they take it?"

Well...The Prophets obviously know something about the Forerunners that the rest of the Covenant don't.

There are theories the the Prophet race thrived at the same time (or even on the same planet) as the forerunners. Perhaps they managed to capture a forerunner ship?

Or we could go into stranger theories, like perhaps the Prophets are the descendants of the Forerunners, or are themselves of the Forerunner race; but those last theories just sound ridiculous.

Somewhere on HBO, I know they have a whole bunch of theories about this sort of stuff. :/

EDIT: Perhaps High Charity was built around the forerunner ship; like the halos, it could be of great religious significance to the Covenant.

High charity is built like a shell surrounding the ship; all the outdoor sections face towards it; and the Prophets have the only access to it, and their main chambers are right near the ship.

It was obviously kept in great condition, and somebody knew how to activate/fly it...

you do know i constantly play halo at medium textures, low particles, and no decals/shadows/specular at 1400x1050 with under or around 10 fps, right?

Ok, fair enough, it isn't a Brute Flood - but damn, that looks fucking amazing...like something from a CG trailer. I'll probably piss my pants when I first meet that...it'll be like meeting the Beserker in Gears of War for the first time.

One thing that's got me thinking is why Bungie hasn't showed as any footage of flood. Surely they are in the game, but no footage AT ALL. Not even any concepts or artwork of them.
With Halo 3's awesome graphics, the Flood are gonna look pretty damn terrifying.

It's a Scarab, but I think that it's a different varient from the one in Halo 2. It can't be the same because the only thing that's the same about the two is the big beam thing and the fact that they both have 4 legs.

The main difference between this trailer and a "CG" trailer is that this is in real time, where as "CG" ones are rendered beforehand.

Plus, also, at the end of Halo 2 it seemed like the Covenant Fleet had burst into civil war based on whether the ship's captain was an elite or a Brute. Since Cortana mentioned that the fleet was the "largest anyone's ever seen" (or something along those lines), it makes sense that, through those ships, they have connections and loyalties throughout the fleet.

As for the arbiter aiming the turret too low, it's because he's walking backwards and the two animations have to overlay eachother.

When you mix walking backwards, with firing, it tends to just go for the walkings animations more so than the others.

There's an area on the left side of the BR that should be lit up when it isn't. Just under the top rail. Look closer.

I never said that I was surprised that the Arbiter was firing at a Brute, I was pointing out the situation in which the new weaopn was being used.

Timing error? Again, watch the video. It's perfectly in sync with the explosion, and makes perfect sense. It's a nice effect.

ExAm
July 14th, 2007, 01:09 PM
The light hitting the side of the rifle is from the muzzle flash itself, so that would cut through any shadow being cast from any object above. Judging by the sudden cutoff from lighted to unlighted, and its reoccurrence upon each firing, regardless of the Chief's position, I believe that it's an error of some sort.

teh lag
July 14th, 2007, 01:10 PM
The BR lighting "error" could be either... an error, or an object is blocking the yellow light from hitting the BR's surface.

The Scarab does not, in fact, light up the sky - the blue light in the sky (which can be assumed to be lightning) dissapears when the scarab blows up. Surely, if a small beginning of an explosion lights up the sky that much, the scarab's deotnation would light it up even more.

The arbiter does have funky aiming, which can be regarded as a bug. Note that he is also running FORWARDS in the clip, and continues to have lower-than-normal angle. however, aiming overlays (as I have known from personal experience) are very hard to get right for every animation a biped has.

Sorry, but I have to agree...It doesn't light up the clouds. Look to the far left of the screen, there's another bit of 'blue cloud' there too. Also, the explosion is too small to light up the clouds that much.
As for your responce to the clouds not being lit after the massive explosion, well even if it does cover a bit of the clouds, it would have lit up all the surrounding clouds also - one's that are visible.

And for some reason I thought that the Pistol was 9mm =/.

Warsaw
July 14th, 2007, 03:57 PM
It was never 9mm. If it were, you'd never be able to crack the shields on an Elite, and it would take an entire magazine (or two) to kill a grunt. If the MA5B/C are 7.62x51mm NATO, and they take almost an entire magazine to kill an Elite, the pistol would be almost entirely useless.

Therefore, it is and has always been 12.7x40mm (which is similar to the .50 Action Express, but not exact). The load has differed in each game, though. In Halo 1, it was a Semi Armour-Piercing High-Explosive Incendiary (SAPHEI) round. In Halo 2, it was simply a hardened Magnum round. In Halo 3, it is probably a SAPHEI round again, but has yet to be mentioned.

Also to note, the book Fall of Reach stated that the M6D was a pistol in ".450" caliber. This is not the case. The game clearly shows the M6D is a 12.7x40mm, as is written on the ammo packages .
