This is a pic of the MC in a WIP map of mine. That base is untextured as yet, which is why it looks like shit. But this is the funniest pic I've ever seen, much less taken, of MC dead...

So I'm guessing you're not posting useless threads about a dead masterchief, but rather seeking crit on your map? Work on your smoothing groups.

My apologies... I was going to break the ice with that pic... see if people hated the background... You're looking at my hideous cliffs I take it, which for some reason get FUBAR'ed when I UVW map them. I think it has to do with the noise modifier I used. They look OK in Max (sorta) but Radiosity really screws them up... And yes, I do know about the smoothing on the rock arch thing. And some of the other stuff, like the kinda nasty concrete texture. It will look better once I move beyond the beta geometry and actually make the rest of the I-beams...

Anyway - Here are the rest of the pics, and the story behind the first one...

MUCH THANKS TO ENDURE EXODUS - Not only did this amazing human being actually MAKE the ground texture for this map, he forced me to learn how to do it myself, which deserves far higher praise than simply making a texture...

And last but not least, my favorite...

I was having my bro take the flag and run so I could get some pics. While he was waiting for me to move to another place for a picture. Little did I know, he picked up a Rocket Launcher. He n00bed me point blank after the shot and ran for his base in a hog, no less. I spawned halfway across the map, chased him down, and killed him. But he scored - in the air just before I killed him. This is how he landed on the flag pedestal - funniest Halo pic of the MC I've ever seen:

Meh - dead MC is pretty funny. I'd change the name if I know how. But the real thread for this map is over on HaloMaps. I was appeasing Conscars - lol.

the big. like thing where its over the river looks to bleh!. add some smooth groups to it. and move some verts so it looks natural.

Ditch the Halo 2 shit, and finish it. It looks pretty decent, though it could use some more work.

Also, that glitch isn't anything new... it happens all the time, it's because Halo's 'ragdoll' fails.
Yeah, the bones don't really match with the surrounding geometry. I mean even games before halo had some good death animations that turned out funny.

Anyway, keep up the map. Thread should be renamed WIP <map name>

I've had more requests for the removal of H2 weaps than anything else... They're gone. The dual magnums were kinda screwing the balance up anyway. I haven't finished with the level geometry yet, either. That rock arch is going to be changed a little, and prolly meshsmoothed.

The water... is actually just the engine. What makes it look nice is the shallow entering angle of the land around it, and my graphics card (which isn't THAT good - X1300 Pro). Anyway - I just stuck a "water!$" plane in max and let the engine do the rest of the work...

No. dont meshsmooth, ever. just get a general "flow" down to the rockyness, and then just make a rock like shader. The map looks interesting, care if i take a peek and walk around it a bit? i can probably help you with any geometry questions you have, and suggest some better ways to do stuff.

What else should I do besides meshsmooth? I know that gives higher poly... I did some smoothing by hand, although it obviously didn't make it around the entire map - lol.

Comments if you could. I fixed the terrible weapon set (classic weaps now), did some ground smoothing, and some rock smoothing. The bases have some very basic textures that look disgusting for some reason. I think it's the shaders, but they're not showing the textures I applied to them. They might be turned over to a texture artist for some work because my skinning sucks.

KoTH has been added to the gameplay after the somewhat-failure of CTF to lend a good game. I think that was mainly because we were playing 3 vs 3, and you really need 2 people for a flag cap. Best technique (developed by H. Guru) seems to be to throw the flag off the balcony to a teammate. By the way - I don't think there's any place on the KoTH hills that you can hide from the sniper bunkers. So... you need to dance :)

Slayer, on the other hand, was amazing. With no real hiding places on the map, close combat is usually interrupted by a sniper, keeping everyone on their toes. And the locations of the spawns means the snipers can't afford to stay in their hidey-holes too long.

The bridge in the middle has a way up, but no way down. I haven't decided if this is going to stay or not. Currently you can safely jump down to one of the middle structures, but I might add a teleporter in the middle of the bridge that dumps you by the ghost.

Speaking of vehicles, the two hogs have been pared down to 1, but I'd really like to get some good ATV tags. I keep getting errors with the physics and animation stuff on the tags I have. I dunno why - I ripped the entire map they're from. In any event, a ghost has been added to the middle of the map. First team there might win.

A note about the weapons - there are only 2 Rocket Launchers now, and there are a lot more assault rifles. All the H2 weaps are gone, because their modeling really did suck, and they screwed up the gameplay performance. The dual magnums were really a pain. One person with dual magnums could effectively defend the base against 3 people. Sooo... they're gone.

yeah - those bases need some professional attention IMO - lol. I know about the ladder bug, but didn't fix it for beta because I know the bases are a mess still. That rock is really kind of a problem... I think a lot of the problem with it is the UVW mapping, not the modeling - it shows up nicely in max before the UVW... but the edges come out when you map it. I might tesselate and smooth that...

There ARE only 1 hog per team at the moment... there's a ghost in the middle... but your suggestion was for 1 hog, 1 ghost - which is MORE than there is now...
