Ok like the title says, I'm looking for a new computer monitor, with a bigger resolution then what I have right now (1200x1000), and I'm hoping for a monitor with a DVI jack in it. I don't want to go any bigger then 21.5" cause where my monitor sits right now is all most 22" wide. (I'll be fixing it later >.>) Oh and I don't care for speakers, I don't need any more speakers then what I got, I all ready have 2 sets:p

here is a list of monitors I've looked at over at Newegg.com (www.Newegg.com).

SAMSUNG 216BW Black-Silver 21.6" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001236)
ViewSonic Optiquest Series Q20WB Black 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116075)
Hanns·G HG-191RPB Black 19" 2ms Widescreen LCD Monitor Built in Speakers - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254015)
SAMSUNG 906BW Black 19" 2 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001094)so far I've found SAMSUNG to be the best, but if there is any monitor out there that works for you and what you do, that's nice. I'm going to use it for Drafting, Photo Shop work, and gaming.
and I'm trying not to go over $400.

While they're often the same panels as the Samsungs, look for Dell Ultrasharps.

Yeah, I'm almost certain Dell uses Samsung panels.

Go to Widescreengamingforum.com and look up reviews for the monitors you are thinking of buying. Usually you can find some interesting tips on how to get the best picture possible, information on packaging, and anything else that is of use to you.

ok, if I find one that I would be welling on buying, I might get it with my Nu Skin discount. :3

I'd go with the Samsung. When it comes to monitors, bigger really is better.

Viewsonics are also great monitors.

Whatever you do, I say go for a glossy screen. I want a glossy screen monitor. Therefore, you do too.

Also the color contrast seems to be a little bit better. They do have issues with Glare though.

:/ of the glossy screens have issues with glara, I'm not going to buy one, I don't like glaras what so ever.

Samsung recently took a few potshots at LG... dropping the prices of their displays to match LG's equivalent price (down to the penny).

That being said, there's 20$ off on an LG 22" wide so if you need one now, you might want to pick it up. Either that, or you can see if LG.Philips will throw turd back at Samsung and drop even further.

Only downside is 1680x1050 can't do 1080p, obviously. My 204WT does 720p awesomely though, its actually my primary 360 monitor.

And yes -- Dell uses Samsung panels exclusively except for 1-2 LG.Philips models. Apple Cinemadisplays are all LG.Philips, period.

if it wasn't for the fact that my monitor shelf was so small and that I had the money, I would by one, but until I make me a new desk or buy one, I can't have any thing bigger then 21.5"

So If for moniter is boxed in why not build a shelf on top of it?

(1200x1000)

You don't mean 1280x1024?

Viewsonic and Benq and Sony produce great monitors. I think Panasonic, which makes HDTVs, also makes monitors.

Do you want a widescreen monitor? I know Viewsonic sells a 1440x900 19" LCD for $180 Canadian at NCIX.

My monitor is a Viewsonic 20" 1680x1050. I want a WUXGA 1920x1200 monitor but I can't find that resolution in monitors smaller than 24", which is quite ridiculous considering that resolution is available in 17" laptops.

Find me a WUXGA monitor that's at most 22" and I'll sell you my current monitor, Stealth (don't worry, I can use my laptop's display as a desktop monitor).

(I'm hating Imageshack right now.)
that's why I'm very shrot on space, I can have as tall of a monitor as I want, but I can't have as wide of a monitor as I want, unless I do some work on cuting that shelf to the left of my monitor and add some shelfs above it. or I can just stick my monitor on the shelf to the left of it.

You don't mean 1280x1024?
so I'm lazy on the size. :p

I know a lot of people who swear by Samsung, but frankly I definitely prefer LG.

My monitor never steered me wrong. Its been substantially over a year and not a dead pixel or any issue to speak of. Plays 360 well also.

I know the numbers don't mean much but -- 2msGrey-Grey/3000:1 versus 5msGrey-Grey/700:1 Also the LG is brighter but consumes 10 less watts of energy at peak.

I use head phones when I'm playing my music when the rest of my family is home, and at night. I use my speakers when I'm home alone or home with my sister and I'm watching a video or playing games, and there is no way in hell you'll get me to do away with the spakers, any ways, the one to the right of my monitor I can just move down by my key board, it's not a problem. and just as a heads up, there is 3 out of 5 speakers in that pic. where my speakers sit is not a problem because I'm going to have to move at lest that one to the right of my monitor.

You didn't get a Widescreen? :-|
that's the one I'm using right now, when I got it I wasn't into wide screens, and all I was looking for was a flat screen monitor that would fit there, and doesn't weigh a ton like the monitor I use to have. >.> I wasn't very happy with that monitor.

if I can find a LG that has what I want, I'll look into one, my cell phone is made by LG (or at lest the screen is) and I'd buy me a monitor if I can find on that has what I want and is made by them any day.

I've had my planer just over a few years and not one dead pixel, or any other issues, other then I want a bigger screen size, and maybe even wide screen.

cool, some times brighter is better.

Okay basically my gripe is the 500+$ Samsung monitor we were forced to set up at work. We were told by the store manager to rig one up with a Philips upscaler and the other up with a DiamondVision 29$ DVD player and show which one looked better. The 500$ Samsung 19" did 720P *so bad* that they looked *exactly the same*. HDMI 720p versus 480i Composite cable.

To be honest both looked like low quality Xvid rips.

So yea -- nothing against Samsung personally -- its just kinda hard when you had awesome luck with everything you did with one company -- and when you try its competitor, its first impression fails you at all instances. Sure -- it wasn't running at the Sammy's native resolution... but if it has HDMI, Component, Svideo, Coax, and Composit connectors... it should at least do SOME TV signal decently -- for 500 friggin' dollars (which is just 200$ shy of a 32" RCA full-out HDTV... for a 19" monitor with HDTV hookups that doesn't even display any display resolution well.)

Just an FYI, the monitor measurement is diagonal, not horizontal. I'm thinking you could easily fit a 23-24 inch monitor in that space you're talking about, if it's 22 inches across
