K ill sum this up quick for you guys. First off I bought a mobo this last winter and it supports 184 pin, and 240 pin. I already have two gigs of 184 pin ram in there and I was wondering if I could install an additional 2gigs of 240 pin ram to equal 4 gigs of ram total.

kthxbi

I wish the computer specs worked... So what motherboard is it? I doubt the board can handle different types of RAM at the same time though. Looking in the manual wouldn't hurt, either.

Boards like that will rarely allow you have both DDR1 and DDR2 at the same time, like Goatse said, look through the manual and google it in I guess.

I know all 3 of my mATX boards that support both DDR1 and 2 (all Via Chipsets) don't let you do it, and Via boards usually are the only ones that have support for both, at least for socket 775.

like Goatse said
I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE

Also, your motherboard won't support 2 different types of RAM.

Its a AsRock 775Dual-Vsta, and the old ram I have is Corsair ValueSelect 184 pin.

Manual mentions nothing of supporting the two types of ram at one time I'm afraid.

Oh an ASRock. It might actually support both at once then (have an ASRock for close to two years now, and it does wonders). Check around on OCWorkbench, as there is a wealth of information about them there.

This is the exact board, and by what I can see I think it supports up to 2 gigs of ram for each type (184,240)

No you can't you can only run the ddr184 or ddr240 you can't use the two at the same time. If you need four gigs then you should just build a new PC. But then again I would not spend my money on ram if I were you. The 2 gigs are good.

Wow, I've NEVER seen a motherboard that supports both 184 and 240pin. That's kinda cool...
