View Full Version : it's been a while...

since the beginning of the summer, i've been really really busy and it's been a while since i last did anything with halo (for those of you that remember my mongoose attempt... it's still a pain in the bottom, modeling the bottom due to the rear wheels blocking the rear chassis). i've grown tired of the goose, so i've gone to my first map that i intend for public release. i call it suria.

originally, suria was intended to combine ideas from epitaph and valhalla, but then my own modeling skills did not prove adequate for such a level of detail (+ epitaph didn't have enough ref pics to borrow). suria is now a canyon with subterranean (correct my spelling, have no idea on how to spell the word) forerunner ruins that used to be part of an ancient forerunner city. all that remains above the ground at the moment are two forerunner structures (yes you will be able to enter part of this hidden city). i intend to add an outpost in the middle of the canyon.

on another note, please note that this is still a work in progress, i'm nowhere near finishing, (might take another month or 4 depending on how much time i get)

without further ado the renders.

above is the terrain and the two exterior landscape (yes i know there are some geometry errors, it'll be fixed when i'm done with modeling)

this is the interior base structure that will be hidden behind the cliff. the only access to this area in the level will be through teleporters (i want to have grav lifts and an anti-grav floating floor ie: midship that the grav lifts lead to, lifts will be in the circular rooms at the end)

whether or not he'll be put in later is still pretty ambigious, but i'm definitaley sure to finish this level and place classic weaps, spawns and what-nought before i do any custom modification of the engine.

(you can use the prolite concept if you want, just be sure to pm me first)

tbh, it looks like it's got a long way to go, but it's an ok start. I'm assuming the dark blue structures are roughly the size of the bases in Valhalla?
In that case I'd suggest changing that purplish tunnel a bit, cause at the moment it's a very long mostly empty straight shot, and needs more to it to make it interesting gameplay-wise. Same with the canyon area- I'm assuming you intend to make it hilly like Valhalla tho.

That elite looks pretty complex. I'd suggest getting a little (read: a lot) more practice before attempting a model that complex.

Oh, and no worries, you spelled subterranean right.

One last thing: a rule of thumb that's infuriatingly accurate is that with just about any project, it will take you about 4 times longer than you expect to finish, no matter how much time you think you're giving yourself. I hate the fact that I prove this rule time and again.

There's an elite in there?

All I can get out of that drawing is some arms and legs.

eye candy:

"Eye candy" is a phrase that may not be spoken in regards to CE, because it is spammed by SVC when he is proverbially jerking-off his noob fanboys.

yea i fixed the "eye candy" (suppose it's not eye candy till it's actually modeled and prolly skinned)

but i really appreciate the feedback on the work in progress (i'm sure to add scenery to prevent the "straight shot" that the large underground corridor has)

All I can get out of that drawing is some arms and legs.
yea, it's probably because i wanted to make the drawing really really detailed (if i cleaned it up in PS you'd probably be able to make out more)
but that was mostly an afternoon playing halo and looking at some SC 2 previews (you'd be suprised how fusing protoss and covie elite works).
