awesome. Do they all support dx10?

anyways, im going to wait for something similar to the 8800GTX, but with ddr4 memory. 8900gtx ftw?

Yes, they all support Dx10 and system shader 4.0:)
Only the Geforce 8800GTX and GTS are known high range cards. Other high range cards haven't been announced yet.

Holy crap those are cheap as chips.

I bet it'll cost me a fuck load more though :(

Seriously though, the cheaper GTX is max $99? thats bs.. Thats only £50...I paid more for my 5500 fx even when it was like a year old...(I paid $155 for it)

Even the Geforce 8300 owns my current video card.

after the C2D and 2 gigs of Ram the Ultra is mine. KITTENS! Ghost should fix the computer section of our profiles. Just for me. so I can show off a midrange next gen card. After I pay off my 360. This is already looking bad isn't it?

I'll take the low end ones, only because of pricing.

dont bother with a low card ever - save, you get what you pay for.

the low end one is better then what I got right now, but If I do end up buying the med end one, then I'll be just as happy.

Valid point, high end of one generations ALWAYS owns low end of the next 2 generations. Low end cards do technically have support for the latest features, such as a Radeon x300 TECHNICALLY has Direct X 9 support, but should you try to implement any of those features it's laggy as hell. If you can't get a current gen high end at LEAST get a mid range or last gen high end. Low end cards aren't good for anything better than pretty websites or videos

Mr Buckshot

true, low end cards may support the new hardware features (DX10 in this case) but may not be powerful enough to take advantage of them without serious lag.

The Geforce 6100 integrated, for example, supports sm3.0 but cannot use it in games without the frames dropping to single digits.

If you want to actually use DX10, go for the midrange at least

going from a 7300 to an 8300 is a waste of money, save up and get a 7800, it will seriously be a better jump. Or get an 8600, but DON'T go up to a 8300, those are just to throw in crappy systems that don't need games.

You'd all laugh if I said what I paid for my Radeon 9250 that ATi stopped supporting a year later. Still, it renders everything in Halo beautifully except for Active Camo.

Anyways, those cards would probably be nice, but I'm probably getting a whole new computer since, besides the Radeon, every component in this thing is six years old. Still, I can be a believer in NVidia if I can ever get a SLI-compatible computer.

Ohh 8800 price drop may be? :eekdance:

Yay 8800 SLI for Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They would own my card if my card wasn't overclocked... 8800GTX ftw, when I get money for my new PC...

And I'll get the 8600 Ultra:)

Are there drivers that can overclock my Radeon 9250? Naw, it's probably so pathetic it'll melt even though its only 65F in here right now.

Still, I would love to play HaloCE with more than 5FPS at 1024X768. Sucks playing it at 640X480 to get 30FPS.

My next computer'll probably have a graphics card like the 8600 or better. I'm gonna make sure of it...

I find it somewhat odd that these haven't surfaced anywhere else.

Regardless I'm still going to wait for R600.

yea, the R600 is going to be sweet. And now that AMD is giving ATi tons of $$ for R&D, ATi is going to have some kick ass cards coming up.

ATi is going to have to beat the prices nVidia set up though. The 8600Ultra is the best deal. SLi that and you have the perfect set up to run through any game. The 8800+ are for those people who like to see things in max resolution with everything on max....and still have excess frame rate.

any info on the DX10 supporting (yes i said it) nvidia geforce 8800?

Just in time! I was about to purchase a 7600GT ($150 range).

Mr Buckshot
January 24th, 2007, 09:42 PM
My 7600 GT cost $179 as well.

Time to get an 8600 Ultra instantly when it comes out. I don't need to be running everything at 1920x1200 on full with 16x AA with over 100 fps.

Strange, the 8300 has more transistors that the 8600. I don't know much about it, but I though more transistors=better performance because of more areas to send data.

edit: even looking at the specs with my inexperienced eyes and mind, those look like the kickass cards that can run Halo at higher resolutions. (including Halo 2. Bungie was right, those preview videos did look alien. It took me a few seconds to realize the model I was looking at was MC, it looked so good.) Finally, I'll actually be able to see the surface of water while I'm playing Halo. I hate seeing the surface react to vehicles, rockets, etc. and not knowing if I can safely throw a grenade and survive.

legionaire45

more transistors doesn't necessarily mean more performance. Its the feature sets, memory bandwidth and overall speed (not just in megahertz, but in how much can be calculated and rendered). hence why the 8600 costs more. I'm guessing that in the near future we will be seeing 8100's which are basically DX10 versions of the low end 7-series except with the required hardware thrown onto the core. Thats what Nvidia usually does anyways.
