Moses was on psychedelic drugs (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22psychedelic+drugs%22&sid=breitbart.com)when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments, an Israeli researcher claimed in a study published this week. Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22integral+part%22&sid=breitbart.com) of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22biblical+times%22&sid=breitbart.com), Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22cognitive+psychology%22&sid=breitbart.com) at the Hebrew University (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22Hebrew+University%22&sid=breitbart.com) of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy. "As far Moses on Mount Sinai is concerned, it was either a supernatural cosmic event, which I don't believe, or a legend, which I don't believe either, or finally, and this is very probable, an event that joined Moses and the people of Israel under the effect of narcotics," Shanon told Israeli public radio on Tuesday. Moses was probably also on drugs when he saw the "burning bush (http://search.breitbart.com/q?s=%22burning+bush%22&sid=breitbart.com)," suggested Shanon, who said he himself has dabbled with such substances. "The Bible says people see sounds, and that is a clasic phenomenon," he said citing the example of religious ceremonies in the Amazon in which drugs are used that induce people to "see music." He mentioned his own experience when he used ayahuasca, a powerful psychotropic plant, during a religious ceremony in Brazil's Amazon forest in 1991. "I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations," Shanon said. He said the psychedelic effects of ayahuasca were comparable to those produced by concoctions based on bark of the acacia tree, that is frequently mentioned in the Bible. on a sidenote: that´s actually new to me. i always thought the bible was written/edited by random psychotic lunatics.

EDIT: also, here we go again: another god-thread.

:raise:

1. Even when you are high you can be able to actually write something meaningfull and in any case when you are again back to reality, it is 10 times easier.

2. If you are trying to implie that the old testament a.k.a. (Part of) the bible actually helped ppl, you are either wrong for the right reasons or you are right for the wrong reasons.

I saw this the other day on MSNBC, but wisely kept it there. Why?...

I don't remember drugs causing people to write logical laws that could actually help people.
So you've never listened to The Beatles?

Back then, people would have been VERY susceptible due to fact they didn't have as much reasonable answers for things and TBQH, never achieved\maintained a 'high' level of education (thanks to their "leaders"). Which all of this is still happening in many 3rd world countries (and and could argue, 1st worlds...) today so they are more easily containable and "orderly".
Really, no matter how you look at it, religion is just another means of putting people under a martial law, but all the while their blinded to the fact.
People wanted answers to these things they just could not fathom reasons to; here, this guy on the next level did it. Why? We don't question him, get back that crop you \:maddowns:>! People doing things considered "wrong" and out of the ordinary, here The Man says this is bad because...because it is bad and you shouldn't do it, that is mean, you are mean, stop doing that :saddowns:!

If you disagree with me, and MUST make a response, do the forums a favor and just stick to PMs :/

This just in!

Some "scientist" has a retarded theory that can be easily debunked!

He had spiritual experiences on drugs because he subconsciously wanted spiritual experiences.

Also, the crackpot says he has used the same psychological drug many times since then. I highly doubt he's of his right mind.

@korn: Religion isn't another way of controlling people, it's simply an easy answer to every problem evar.
the only time it becomes like what you said is when your subscribing to the letter to some religious group (and I admit that this has happened all through history, but religion isn't like this by necessity).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcotics

The "cognitive psychologist" doesn't know what the definition of Narcotics even is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_psychology

Also Cognitive Psychology (of which my sister has a major in) examines how the brain learns, basically... and is therefore completely irrelevant to drug usage.

In fact all forms of psychology have NO connection to chemical interactions with the brain.

That's psychiatry.

Sooo bullshit.

Your point being?

Your point being? The "expert" has absolutely zero experience in this field nor any related fields.

That's a pretty valid point.

I could say that Atheism is a hoax made by Pentecostals to ensure more room in heaven. I'd have the same credentials as he would.

Actually I'd be more credible -- I'm not on hallucinogenics... ... which by the way the expert confused for narcotics (even though some narcotics cause hallucinations -- most do not)

Well, the bark on the acacia tree seems like an interesting connection, but thats about it. The rest is such a ridiculously vague topic/discussion that has probably been discussed/mentioned millions of times by ordinary people.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia

Except for the fact it's not a drug...

Although apparently it does help treat premature ejaculation...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia#Medicinal_uses

Edit: Actually it seems to contain small traces of hallucinogenics... very small traces though. Also needs to be laced with another plant.
