\/\/\/ @ dano, idk about the weapons, I prefer modeling from perspective reference images, usualy just side views isn't enough for me, which is why any (one) weapon I've ever tried (once) to concept then model my self has failed miserably because I can't draw guns perspectively too well. They are nice though :)

wow, I love ur shading style, wish I had it... my shading lacks talent lol...

The helicopter is like W1N pure win, and it should be modeled. Your last biomechanical robot thingy looks a little like my random doodles I do when I'm bored (usually in school), except with a purpose, and not just random lines. I like it

o yea.. crit... The vtol gun ship has an odd/awkward perspective to it, like the perspective changes through out the object, I think its the tail mainly though, and the belly/under section of it, er mb the nose/cockpit too, it looks like it curves or something idk, its still a cool concept though none the less.

EDIT: I need to scan some of my stuff so people can tear it apart online, I swear everyone in my art class is blind or maybe thats just because its high school art class and no one cares, but I never get any good criticism except what I pull out of my art teacher, I usually end up seeing more stuff wrong with my art then they do, its like being in the twilight zone.

Of course, my computers in the basement, the scanners up stairs attached to a computer that my sister managed to decimate with a virus, and I'm too lazy to fix it, let alone walk up stairs. I think I might steal the scanner cuz its been sitting there lifeless for like a month now, when ever I get off my arse that is, I'd win any contest at being lazy XD.

EDIT: o yea... do you use just regular pencil, or did you use a soft led? I'm really new to the many mediums of art, I need to get out of the habit of using smooth printer paper and led pencils to draw stuff, its bad.

wow, never would have guessed, nice shading :) least compared to what I can accomplish with them (recently used an ebony pencil in art class, a lot softer for shading). I love Mechanical Pencil's though, mostly because you never have to sharpen them and I always use 0.5 mm, good for getting small details and such, I need to learn how draw lighter though, I'm too heavy with the pencil, probably why my shading is bad usually.

The idea I had in mind was somewhat of a Sentinel flood-control mech (Regardless if the Forerunners have progressed beyond things with legs, mechs of forerunner design would be cool). You could always use something to... wrastle... with the larger flood forms. :-3

Honestly I'll never understand statements like these. Why are humans allowed myriad different design styles but the Forerunner are limited to gray panels and 45 degree angles?

ExAm
July 25th, 2008, 03:01 PM
Have you ever looked closely at a sentinel? Think that style, then try applying it to a large mech. The drawing doesn't have any shapes that would make me think that it's forerunner. In the same way that Sentinels keep with the tradition of angular shapes, any mech that the forerunner would have made would have shared the same design characteristics, in my opinion.

Heathen

Honestly I'll never understand statements like these. Why are humans allowed myriad different design styles but the Forerunner are limited to gray panels and 45 degree angles?
Because almost all of the surviving forerunner things were built at the same time by the same people in the same style?

I mean, If you look at a Humvee and you look at an Abrams, you'll notice the difference in style between that and a Mark 1 and a First World War field piece.

Also, it needs to be distinctly recognizable as forerunner, where as human things are built off a massively larger preexisting frame of reference for the various styles of human construction.

Pooky
July 27th, 2008, 01:17 AM

To cite an obvious example, Delta Halo had some very different looking structures from Alpha Halo (which obviously weren't built at the same time by the same people).

To cite an obvious example, Delta Halo had some very different looking structures from Alpha Halo (which obviously weren't built at the same time by the same people).

I suppose, but that was made possible as a recognizable forerunner item by context within a structure built by at the same time by the same people, and it also fit the 45 degree angles deal and what not, which only really strengthens the idea that forerunner should look a particular way, in my opinion.

It's sort of like a Roman Temple versus Louis Sullivan, there are clear parallels to help define and accentuate the style.

I'm not quite understanding the damage doing on - the middle right side is exploding, but the back of the engine is falling off and there's embers falling down from the middle of the back. Also, the tail fins don't make much sense being damaged, unless the idea was that it was already severely damaged. I dunno what the damage is supposed to be from, so I guess it could happen... it still looks kinda strange to me.

Boba
August 30th, 2008, 03:33 PM
Silly Snake, those arn't embers, they're flares! Basically the whole right side from the wing back is obliterated. Oh and the tail fins were obliterated a couple of seconds before (I originally was going to do something else with the drawing, but I left the fins that way. >_>). :p

Oh, and it's a variable geometry fighter, which wings fold back to form a delta with the stabilizers; It's my take on a MiG-1.44.

When writing, avoid using specific names without describing what they mean, and sometimes describing them can be awkward (I cringed when I read the phrase "...on his Heads-Up Display (HUD)..." in Contact Harvest >_< )
So sometimes it's best to use a generic term - It's not guaranteed that the reader is going to know what a Stryker is. I'd suggest replacing that with "personnel carrier"

Otherwise, your use words with regard to the text that is there purely to frame each use of my first name is satisfactory :v:
Keep it up.

ExAm
September 15th, 2008, 05:04 AM
Is that the end? Kind of abrupt. When you end a story, you need to let the reader know the end is coming. Wind it down, bring it to a close proper. I'll check yer grammar later, I'm going to bed.

you weapon concepts, may i use any of them to loosely base some 3d models on?
by loosely, i mean mean, my models may only use a few concepts of the gun, then the rest would be pulled out of my behind.

i just want to have permission to use them cause they are fairly large images, and their proportions are good, and also the flat color makes it an easier reference for me when modeling.

I dont like it now that it has that elongated crown. It was cooler as a skull on a long neck. Seemed more malicious.

Good work, but now you should really start doing more perspective, it is hard but you won't improve if you don't.

Looks great though man.

It's lookin' good, just add more detail to the face/head. o:

The head seems... flat. I suppose that the lack of shading could be causing that, but even the face doesn't seem to have the sense of depth I get from the rest of it.

Corndogman
February 17th, 2009, 02:56 PM
I'd go for a more black and silver color.

While that would look good too, I think the brown makes it creepier and more gross. Its like when you see a cockroach and freak out, except with a huge ass alien. That would be scary as hell to see.

DaneO'Roo
February 18th, 2009, 01:57 AM
excellence.

Keep on pushing boba, you need to work on some of your detailing, and try more colours, very subtly, still can go with the brown, but had some slight hues of teal and greyish purple, just really slight, trust me itll give it a really nice membrany look.

dude dont stop completely, at least put it off until you feel like doing something extraordinarily organic

What's it standing on?

Chainsy

Ignore him, keep drawing, keep posting, I love your work. Just try to make the leap like you did on the colored one above and quit doing side shots and try dynamic perspective drawings that are more interesting.

rossmum
March 19th, 2009, 10:34 PM
Yeah, any idiot can draw side views but perspective is hard. I can replicate a Spitfire Mk.I through IX on paper accurate down to the rivet but the moment I try and do so with a proper 3D perspective view... :smith:

Which way is the light coming from? Since it is rounded and smooth, depending on where the light comes from, it wouldn't cover it like that. Also I found if I paint like that, doing once piece and filling in all the details, it becomes tiring and boring and takes a long time, try blocking out lighitng, shadows and basic structures on the whole body first, then refine it and go into details, goes much faste and oyu have a higher chance of getting it done. :)
