Why is it that you spend so much effort on your models yet never get them in game? (other than those few iffy maps)

Most of my maps are just test maps. For example, my map tranquility was to test different light values and qualities. Sanctum was to test high resolution textures and my new water shader. ect...

More CE Map (Mostly unreleased)

sounds like your talking bout me.. *cough* yea.. a lot of those are really good, specially that one city map (one with red railings) looks interesting, the game play could be really good, looks like fun.

Tis is because it takes so much time to actually model a good map and polish off the model. Then you have to go back and ID all the faces, smooth them, then set up materials, then find the right textures, then after u've done this + fixing error, you get to compile it through tool, then get to run basic light maps. The you have the privilege of setingt up the some odd 30+ shaders that are usually associated with a map. All that plus any custom textures you might need to make. Fixing the lighting through trial and error, population weapon placement, scenery placement, more lighting, then finally a finally get to run a higher detailed radiosity then get to beta, have people complain about stuff, go back fix stuff, find glitches fix glitches, finally do a final compilation of everything release the map then never actually want to look at it ever again because its image by now has been burned into your head from staring at it for so long.

and I didn't even include portaling sound's or any custom content you might want to make, plus special eye candy thingies like water, weather scripting and other fancy's stuffz

All this work just to make a map that was an idea in your head that people MIGHT play if its good, basically you get to sigh a sigh of relief when people play your map for more then a week before throwing it to the side. Thats pretty much your only reward (apart from gaining the experience of modeling and game modding). You get to watch people either have fun on your map or watch them call it crap and complain about it.

Hell, sounds like alot of fun. :XD:

Welcome to the studio, the Modacity sponsored art/creativity board. The first thing you should realize is that this is not just an art board--but for anything created by the users.
Here are a few categories of acceptable media:
3d art (real life models, or cg)
2d art (digital, traditional)
Photography
Music
Literature (short stories, fan fiction)Topic Naming Rubrick

Each topic must have a prefix, and a post icon ( http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/2d.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/3d.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/music.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/photography.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/literature.png ) to state what type of media it is. You must also state the name of the piece.

[GALLERY] Gallery topics are free range--you dont have to have a post icon, and you can add as much art as you have. you may have only ONE gallery topic. I dont see what rules im breaking... please point them out. What would maps fall under? I guessed 3d art. I chose a gallery, because I am not working on any of them. Please, if I am doing something wrong, tell me and i'll fix it. Dont just say its wrong.

Nothing taken personally, I just fail to see my wrong doing.

Edit: I delete three non-map releate photo, better?

True, but when you get that far into making something you might as well finish it. (or at least turbosquid the damn thing) Theres also the great feeling you get when you finish something completely. Making something half way through then bailing out isn't fulfilling at all. (i would know....) Another thing that bothers me is when I see IN GAME finished maps that never get released. Seriously, wtf.

Blah ur jus jealous cuz you can't play them :p

Trust me I know how annoying it is to never finish anything, I do it all the time and hate my self for it. Its jus really hard for some people to get a map going that they never lose interest in thus why it never makes it past the modeling stage, or just isn't polished enough to be released. The creator loses interest and doesn't like his ideas anymore.

I think the terminal map is the only one that I never released. the others are out there.
