Decided to clean my AR up a bit seeming as it is an old model and poorly modelled. It seems alright now. 3843 Triangles, may lower it as the detail on the right side of the weapon is not seen and can be removed. But it is under 4K which i want.

I never really try to make a render with anything more than a diffuse and sometimes specular, so I was just randomly messing around to try and make a decent looking render.

If you're trying to make a good render... I would suggest trying to make it as life-like as you can. Like rooster just said, adding small details always help. Also, if it were me, I would make the energy sections glow a bit. Also it needs a background and what not.

Only part that is done is the suppressor, everything else either hasn't been touched or is still being worked on. He requested that the indents in the grip be red.
This is the third texture I've ever done and it'll be the only one I've finished thus far when I'm done.
Diffuse only. Texture on the clip is a placeholder.

What I THINK heathen meant to say is that it lacks detailing in both the model and the skin. I myself am not a good skinner, I couldn't tell you exactly what needs to be done here, but the grip its self should not be just a simple texture. It needs the detailing in the grip, and some wear and tear to match the rest of the gun couldn't hurt. For a first weapon skin, I'd say it isn't too bad.

you know you're only using about HALF of your texture right?

you should try to get some better UV's in there. that being said, you can mirror the sides and what i guess are the front and back as well, saving you even more space, letting you put in alot more pixels on the same surface.

I dunno if this is entirely right (or at all legible), but here's what I would've done assuming I wasn't totally incompetent with 3DS:

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm258/rossmumv2/uv.jpg

...and there you go. Half the map space used, meaning you could expand what you actually need to fill the whole thing. Better detail on the texture, better map usage, better all round.

I didn't change the lighting when I did that view, so the light was still coming from above and caused a shadow on the silencer and such. Model was made by Floyd.
I've got a bunch of stuff to do right now, it's taken by me like a week and its still not done. Dear god.

On top of that your "diffuse" is severely lacking. It doesn't look like anything, just some vaguely metal (or is it stone?) noise and scratches on top of some simple colors.

MetKiller Joe

My only complaint is not enough detail on the diffuse (looks very bland from a distance), and I would also fix how it is tiling. Right now, it is very apparent where the texture ends relative to the Z-Axis.

I don't have much experience texturing, so I'm sure somebody else could give you even better advice; but that's my two cents.

It doesn't look so much like a destroyed city as a mesh of a city that someone tried to mess up in hopes that it would look "destroyed". The second picture in particular... Idk what could make a solid metal (concrete?) sign bend like that but it looks horribly wrong. It could just be the UVing, but the sidewalks (I think that's what they are?) too look really sloppy. The building in picture 1 looks okay, but otherwise you've got a lot of work to do.

That wall looks more like tinfoil with a rock texture on it than a destroyed wall. There's no form to the destruction, no reason for the different stuff being broken... and how does a broken part of a wall stick OUT that far without being a part of a rock that fell off or something? It looks almost as if the entire wall melted a bit tbh.

Look at pictures of destruction, use those as reference for what you want yours to look like.

Concrete or stone walls collapse or crumble, they don't deform like that. Hell, I doubt even a metal wall would unless some very specific conditions were met.

Which is perfectly ok because mudbox is an awesome program, and its great that you are learning it. But this could have been done in paint and the point would have been made in a much clearer fashion.

Also, from that, it isn't really clear what is what.

Do you think it needs rays off the clouds, if so, can someone point me in the direction on how to do so and or link to a tut.

The clouds don't look very convincing. They look a bit too grainy, and those higher/lower concentrations of cloud just don't look too great. If you want that kind of stuff, I'd suggest either subtler colors or transitions.

Also, the clouds' silhouette isn't very apparent; it is there, but not as pronounced as it could be. The sun is also somewhat lacking (it looks like a simple glowing sphere, but not all that realistic).

I am liking the colors and the tree, but the execution just isn't all there.

If I used stencils, they would be either stock stencils, which need no skill to use, or custom stencils, which would then be taking two steps to arrive at the same goal.

Also, stencils basically seem to be tileable textures that you can paint on to a surface either as an alpha or texture, and sure, that is useful for some things, but not for something like rubble which doesn't really have a pattern to it.

I think it was neuro that said, "Nobody's going to pay you for pressing a button."

I've tried to make it less cardboard-y by taking out a massive chunk of the roof.
Also, I was thinking back to the Domain betas way back when and remembered how a single entrance to any structure is bad news when it comes to Oddball camping. As such, I added in a tiny hole near the base of the Train Station which leads into the station itself.
While it's not readily apparent in the render, there IS some rebar supporting that tiny hole, the render's just at a bad angle.
Personally, I don't like the hole, but I have to have at least 2 entrances to preserve gameplay, and I can't think of any way to make it look good.
So I'm looking for your guys' opinion on both if I had succeeded in making it any better and how I can make that hole look nicer.

most obvious errors are in that image.

it sucks pretty hard because i don't have a tablet here, but i guess it shuold point out the most obvious lines in a fair enough manner.

you should proceed by defining the shapes of the head more, like the jaw-line for example, and the muscle thign going from the corner of the mouth to the nose.
just define the shapes in general more, then when you've got the most of it in there, you can start to actually sculpt smaller things into it.
the cavity in the side of his head.
just add muscle to where it should be, and smooth it out a bit, dig in the cavities in his cheek-area, then start to paint in some of it's tendons there

general rule of thumb in zbrush, is to just go from big to small.

More like a lense, i will try different variations but i do not intend to put the marathon symbol on it.
It never made sense to me how an "eye" would have the imprint of a symbol over the top of it which would distort the vision.
No wonder all the monitors are crazy.

Very nice looking animation ICEE, I like the style and flow of it from when he knocks the...ammo box(?) out of it to when he makes a little jump with the gun over to the position where he lifts the top. The insertion of the ammo box could use a bit more movement with the gun, and at one point, it looks like it just goes over the same motion twice (during the time in which he's putting the bullet chain into position). I have an idea for what you can do with the bullet chain insertion also so it doesn't look like the hand just sits still (even though I see movement), but for now I must be off to school.

Little update on the monitor.
I've started unwrapping my monitor and started with the eye peice.
If anyone can give some crit on this on how to pack the uv's and how to improve generaly that would be greatly appreciated.
I've used the render to texture feature after reading about it in a book i purchased sometime back.
Also been working on materials as well to try and make the texture seem better.
Sorry snaf about using the same sphere model but after tweaking with the one you suggested it turned out worse than i started off with so i went back to the first.
Theres about 160 polies in the entire eye peice including the mount.

@Snowy: Only complaint I have with it is the "O's" that look like hourglasses. They're too "repetitive" IMO. Maybe you could switch it up a little bit, with maybe a different font? OR use the same font, just use a different but fitting font for the "O's".

Also, is it just me or do those five stars look of center?

Make the T in "Party" the same as the one in "The." Also make the G in the second "dodgeball" uppercase, the same as it is in the first dodgeball.

For the inner part of the shell there is a pattern where the antigrav light is, almost triangle shaped but after having looked up the diffuse map i've decided to make my own pattern.
Im modeling the pattern out on a plane then i plan on making it a normal map and diffuse for being used on my monitors main bitmap.

Hmm... I'm not really one to say much about website design, but it seems kinda... Plain. I don't know exactly what's missing, but it needs some detail in the background somehow. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I'm working on a cover of "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath. I want to know which version of it you guys like better.
I've been playing the guitar for about a year or so now, although I'm entirely self-taught (never took a guitar lesson in my life, though I CAN read music).
Also, yes, I know I screwed up here and there, so sue me. I don't have any fancy audio editing software and this was recorded in real-time using a headset mike. I think it sounds kinda good, though, aside from where I hear myself fucking up and playing a fret too high or only strumming one of the two strings I'm supposed to strum.
