I can't really answer that from my own experience, as I haven't been hired to do much character illustration, but I can tell you that it would have to depend on a lot of things like how many characters she wants, how soon she wants them, ownership and rights, the complexity of the concept. after asking a couple of friends who do more illustration work than i do, and the prices ballpark around several hundred per piece. Be prepared to pay around that much[hopefully less]. D: i hope that longwinded blurb at least half answered your question.
Yo bapsi, I have a question for you. My mom is a sci-fi writer, and she's been looking for someone to draw pictures of her characters. She has a general guideline for each character that the artist would have to follow. However she has no idea how much to pay for that sort of work. I was hoping you'd know how much would be acceptable for a student/amateur artist to make per-drawing. I asked snaf, he wasn't able to give me an answer.
