Well that's the thing. NZ/AS and ASCE standards outline bare minimum levels for building design, when that is just not safe in most areas. The argument at the royal commission to the collapse of the CTV building revolves around whether or not the building met minimum code standards of the time, not whether or not it was designed to be a safe building. Unfortunately the legal requirement is just to design to the code, regardless of whether or not it is safe. A paradigm shift in civil engineering is required.

You guys need to actually think about what sport as a whole provides. You are too narrow minded and only see "oh its a dude running", it is much much more than that.

50% of the British team are from public schools, which, as the term may confuse, costs a ton of money and are usually for the highly intelligent. So maybe its just a failing of your countries, but the British team are not in that category.

On a separate note, I take my hat off to the American basketball team. They have really soaked in all that the olympics have got, Kobe has been watching tons of other events, I thought he would be really elitist and only care about his own, but wow.

i did say it helps bring people together, unfortunately it also has the opposite effect on many occasions - fuck, look at english football fans. i think the olympics as an actual thing is important and can do good but i think the parts are a lot less valuable than the whole, if that makes sense

i appreciate that people want to compete and be good at stuff, i have nothing against sport in that regard. i just think it gets way too much attention these days, especially on more localised levels where it has comparatively little benefit to the wider community.

If you were to, say, erect a masturbating stadium to host the world's top masturbators, to participate in a world-wide masturbating competition, then you should feel bad. Because after you and the other elite masturbators are done masturbating, you'll realize what you have left is a giant steel monument to your own idolized opulence which drew a few tourists to one area for a few months, and will never make up for the investment you put into it.
