What. Really humanity. Yes, let's blame others for not being able to predict nature and prevent nature. Yes, let's incarcerate them for it too. Fucking hell people, they may be in the board for trying to prepare people for earthquakes, but preventing them and incarcerating them for it is just plain emotional. Firing them from their posts is one thing, but prison? Seriously, I feel people in today's world just don't understand the unbelievable force that is nature and the natural world. Fucking hell. Seriously.
Manslaughter is pretty harsh. I mean, if they deliberately kept quiet then maybe, but if it was just incompetence or bad communication, then that's not very encouraging.
darkhalo, your post exactly illustrates how your shitty media manipulates any news you get fed, and you fucking eat it like a pig.
these people were tried for what's basically criminal negligence.
you know, that shit where you go to jail for neglecting to do a certain thing.
these people were on a
PANELCOMMISION, and that PANELCOMMISION got persecuted, not because they're scientists that failed to predict.
they got people killed indirectly, and they SHOULD stand trial for it.
they also HAPPEN to be geologists, so obviously your american horseshit channels convert that to WAR ON SCIENCE HURR DERRR, and you just fuckign take it like a bitch.
hold your ignorant shitmouth once in a while you stupid fuck.

What the fuck neuro. Do you have any idea how seismology works? I really hope you're taking the piss.
They should arrest the government for not having proper building standards in place, unreinforced masonry in seismic area whatever the risk is downright dangerous. The buildings killed these people, not the seismologists that told them not to evacuate. In the week before the earthquake struck, the group told the public that the high incidence of smaller earthquakes were not necessarily precursors of a larger quake. They did, however, also mention that earthquakes were unpredictable, and that building codes in the area needed to be adjusted to provide better seismic safety.
e: Apparently a government official put a spin on the report, but that's definitely not the fault of the seismologists.

hey i don't agree with it, let that be clear, i'm playing devil's advocate here.
it's retarded they're perscuting these people over an earthquake.
but i CANT FUCKIGN STAND asshats yelling 'OMF PERSECUTING SCIENTISTS BECAUSE OF SCIENCE'
that's just a COMPLETE perversion of reporting, and i needed to call you out for it.

Thank you Timo. I am glad you can tell Neuro everything properly, so I don't have to. You explain it in a way his arrogant brain can comprehend.
As for "Scientists being tried for science," Timo hit it on the head. Whoever was commissioned to regulate and construct those buildings should be tried for negligence, not the physicists heading a commission that attempts in predicting barely predictable circumstances. The hate for what happened is easily understandable, but you're shooting the custodian for not stopping a robbery.

You cannot predict when an earthquake will occur. You can predict that one will occur.
Trialling someone for the former is not only stupid, it's fucking disgusting.
We've been waiting 20yr's for the big earthquake to hit LA, because we know it'll occur eventually, does that mean that when it does happen we should blame the guys who monitor it, or the guys that didn't construct buildings to high enough standards in cost cutting exercise's to justice for the death of the people.
There is absolutely no doubt in my mind these guys told people it was a seismic zone, so how the hell can they be blamed.
