Good job reddit
Besides the source that Plas posted, think through this. Every source reporting the story makes no mention of Valve. Everyone knows Valve's style: small hints that lead up to huge announcements (e.g. Steam Machines last year). If Valve was truly creating this device, then the internet would have blown up with links to the Steam website with web pages outlining the product.
It has already been stated in all articles that it's the Steamboy Machine team that is creating this, not Valve. Valve isn't even mentioned in the articles except to refer to their Steam platform.
Source? There isn't one. There's not a single credible bit of evidence that this is even a thing.
Let's think about this for just a moment.
- Domain was only registered three months ago, seemingly to some individual in Spain.
- The source article claims it was revealed at E3, yet as far as I can tell, nobody has stepped forward to claim that they actually saw it.
- Device uses Valve's branding. I doubt Valve would be best pleased (since it states Valve isn't involved).
- Nintendo probably wouldn't approve of the branding either and they have a bit of a reputation for releasing the lawyers.
- You couldn't just dump Steam(OS) in its current state on a handheld and have something that'd be suitable for release. I'm not sure how they'd get around the issue of Steam having an interface that'd be totally unsuited to handheld devices without Valve's help.
- I'm doubting whether it's something the market even wants. What games is it going to be able to play exactly?
TL;DR:GameInternet journalism is copy/paste with little fact checking and research.
