Nice work to start with, i've had sort of the same 'problem'... i made some lights to get my dark spots brighter. You could just place a box with a light emmiting shader to get some light where u want it.

Change the sun's position in a new sky tag, make sure to reference to a .render_model. Or just use a pre-made sky, and change it's sun's position, but save it as a different name. Use that, and relight your map.

Open your .sky tag with H2gurilla and go down to lights and put in...
    Direction vector [i0][i0][i0]
    Direction[y70] [p20]

    Then chose the sun_ascension.lens_flare
    Its in skies/multi/ascension

Then compile and light yourmap with the low setting.
Med or high will take much longer.

    Hope that helps!

    Re: weird sky/shadow problem

thanks for all the help, sorry it took me so long to reply but I did end up fixing this... Turned out to be a combination of bad cliff shader and the placement of my sun . I'm pretty close to finishing up a beta version of this map and was wondering if anyone here could help me test it to see how it plays? I was gonna put up some new screens when I get home from work tonight, maybe you guys could give me some input on what I've got so far?
