Well here comes school again, and I don't have a dedicated MP3 player. I have my laptop but it's not exactly portable in my pocket.
I don't need very much but here's some features I would like.
Visible screen: I want to be able to see what I'm listening to.
Playlists: I need to be able to have different ones you know like "Halo3 Mix" "Bus Mix" or "Makin' Love Mix" something like that.
Codec playing: I would preferably like something that would have ability to play lots of different audio codecs.Just looking for advice on possible players. I mean iPod and Zune are obvious choices but maybe someone else has something out there I haven't seen yet.
Thanks Modacity and your efforts will not go unrewarded. (aka meger +rep from me)

I myself am more of a Zune man. But my friend has an Archos and he seems to enjoy it quite a bit. Might want to look in to that.
Edit: Also... Don't be too worried about the size, I know my friend can fit it in his pocket with ease... and he doesn't even wear baggy pants... so it should do you good.

I love my video iPod.
it's a bit small (30 GB) but, you can find em pretty cheap nowadays.

Zunes are much better than previously assumed. iPods are nice, but you're paying a large amount for the name. I'd only get it if you're considering the huge storage versions, but they're really overpriced.

Look no further than a Zune. You can make and download games for them now, too!

Well I broke down and got a 4 Gig Zune.
My original idea was to get a Samsung P2 which is actually fricken nice and it was "on sale" for 149.99 at Best Buy. I go to Best Buy and they tell me this "online only" bullshit. I walk out, walk a block away to Futureshop and buy a Zune straight up.
Really liking it and I don't know why but I love the Zune software interface.

I have my 30GB (old version) Zune for a year1 1/2 years now...used it every day for at least an hour and the battery still hasn't died on me yet.
4GB might be a bit small...I alone have 5 Dvds on it. Zune Software is nice but can freeze occasionally but still nicest music software I have seen.

I'd also go for the Zen X-Fi, but if you want something a little less expensive, that has most of the same capabilities, go for the Zen (non-X-Fi).
Creative has really good products, myself, I've had my Zen Vision M for about 3 years now, and I've had no problems with it yet.

From the reviews I've read, the X-FI on the Zen player doesn't do much. A lot of the times, reviewers have said it makes their music sound worse. Perhaps it's better suited for their sound cards.
In videos, I've always heard the Zen players make a loud click noise when you push their buttons.. something that I would personally hate. Especially if I'm in class and not suppose to be listening to it, or just don't want to break other's concentration.
The Microsoft 4GB Zune on Newegg is just hovering above $100. From what I've read about the new Zune, that is a fantastic deal.

If you're talking about the new chunky pieces of shit. Yeah. I still have my Black 1GB 1st Generation Nano and it still works perfect. Well I've only had it for 2 years now. I got it in August 2006, just before they were phased out.
I like the features of the Zen X-Fi, and 16GB for $199? That seems cheap to me. I wanted a Samsung P2 but I reconsidered on getting that because most of the time I'm listening to my music in class and the Ipod will be in my smaller pocket inside my right pocket of my jeans (it fits snuggly) and I can press the buttons right from the outside of my jeans. With the P2 you can't do that since it's touch screen only.
I read some reviews on the Zen X-Fi and then see if it's even available in my area. I'll still consider one of the newer Zune models since you people say great things about it.

Personally I like my ipod classic (http://www.plunderguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/apple-ipod-classic.jpg). There are variations of memory for you to choose from (i chose the 80gig) and its sturdy and reliable. It won't snap if you sit on it like some of the other tiny ipod brands. I used to use a samsung (http://www.glomarket.com/upload/2007-05-12/20070512083522_930.jpg)mp3 player, but that ran out of space. It was however, a very convenient size and didn't cost too much.
