I was playing around in After Effects today while watching a tutorial from videocopilot.net and came up with the animation shown in the below video... I'd like some comments and criticism on how I did please.

I like it. The text after the effect though felt a little strange.

Freelancer you should get CS4 AAE, now it has 3d object support so you can manipulate them from AAE

I was originally going to try and design something similar to the intro video on this page:
http://www.videocopilot.net/basic/

But I liked this spacey/sci-fi thing better.

AE CS3 has 3D object support, I did everything there with just AE. Unless you're talking about that thing where you can actually import 3D objects into AE like you can in Photoshop CS3.

That's just for the mock-up, it's what's going to happen when that section is done. Obviously there's going to be some before what you see as well, due to the nature of the Prepare to Drop tune.

Ok, then it's pretty perfect as far as I'm concerned.

Here's a slightly newer version, with actual footage in place of time line script...

Panning needs to work on the tweening, its seems jumpy

Music needs to be changed too. It won't be long before EVERYONE is using the "awesome music" by Bungie too, and then yours wont be as original.

That's nice, unlike their shit videos, my stuff won't be shit.

Uh.. what? Panning needs to work on the tweening? Do you mean:

I need to work on the camera panning, and the transitions need to be better?

I have no idea what those words that you just wrote mean, they're not in any sensible order...

Yeaaaa... basically he seems to mean you need to work on the camera movements.

Though, that's not After Effects, that's Halo.

It might have just been Youtube, but the motion blur kinda looked amateurish.

Sorry, it just seemed when you panned around the spartan it wasn't one complete 360' pan, it seemed like it was instead 4 arcs connected end to end. And the camera started and stopped at each beginning, and each end.

Connect a controller to your computer and use that for the camera panning, mice are too jittery

Yea, I was just using Pats CamFlyer to test it out. That's not final footage, it's just a rough idea as a place holder until I can get the good stuff.

I need to know how to map the middle mouse button to a button on the controller. The ability to have it as a toggle instead of a pressure button would be great. I have a hard modded original XBOX controller that I sometimes play Halo with, and I've experimented with it for filming, but I cannot get the middle mouse button to map to anything...
