View Full Version : Odd Casting Choice for Gears of War Movie

Well, apparently the script is done, and casting has started. However, the screenwriter is making a curious choice in looking to get Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in the film. Now while most would probably expect him to be in here playing Dom, the screenwriter wants him to play Marcus Fenix.

Anyone else perplexed by this?

That said, I saw a comment somewhere in there that hit home. Why don't they make these video game movie adaptations all CGI. Yes, I get that it's expensive, but it would be infinitely better to have everything feel like the universe, and to be able to use the original voice actors. IDGI Hollywood :(

Probably because he was so awesome in his last video-game movie. :downs:

Owait... :saddowns:

So they're actually making a Gears movie, eh? Really, what was the last major action movie not based on a game, comic, book, or other existing franchise?

Joking aside, idk, I think The Rock kinda fits the bill...

Seriously. THe realness just doesn't work. CG would be so much better. I'd much rather watch cg.

He fits the movie, for sure, but for Marcus? Mr. Chalk Whiteskin himself?

As for the Doom movie, certainly not his best, but The Rock can definitely act. Anyone who has seen Gridiron Gang, Walking Tall, or The Game Plan can testify to that.

They shoulda gotten John Travolta to do it IMO.

But that's just me.

I bet the artist who made Marcus got some shots of Travolta as references.
To many similarities to be a coincidence.

It's a movie of a video game.
It will have to suck.

It's a movie of a game renowned for it's pretty shallow plot.
It will have to really suck.

Why give a fuck. vOv

Southland Tales was awesome despite him being in it.

the fuck? damn it hollywood, there is already a superior male badass actor out there who could execute the role perfectly.

and ffs, GOW's story line isn't even close to developed enough to make a good movie. People play gears for one reason: chainsaw bayonets. No one gives a fuck about the one shred of emotional appeal in the series: MARRRIAAAAA

Really?

I liked the storyline so far... :eyesroll:

The overview story is interesting, but none of the characters personal conflicts and trials are really. The branch of the game dealing with maria is the only character development in the game really.

Fuck the Rock. He shouldn't even be in ANY movies, let alone one that COULD be badass. John Travolta should be Marcus, thats just how it should be. I have no fucking clue who should be Dom, but it shoud not be the Rock. Fuck that.

I think John Travolta would be kick ass... but I kinda like the Dwayne Johnson. Some of his movies were good.

The trouble with Travolta is that he actually has some acting skills, which would be wasted on a fucking GoW movie.

The Rock is a pretty good actor, but I don't think he really fits the part. John Travolta would be perfect, if only he was a few years younger. He could still pull it off though.

I think the problem with Travolta is that his voice is just so far departed from John DiMaggio's.
