View Full Version : Some changes, pics, and some release info.

As you can see, this board is now for CMT Halo 1 disscussion, which includes, CE, PC, and Xbox. Leet and Teh Lag are now extra mods in the CMT section as well. You might ask, why make 2 boards. The reason being that CMT for Halo 1 will still have alot of steam left in it, even after we have moved to vista. There may be more CMT MP maps coming out after vista, and there are so many things in CMT SPv2 that will keep you comming back, even if you own H2v. Speaking of CMT SPv2...
SPV2 is going well, most maps are up and running perfect, better FPS than the old ones as well. Brutes are fantastic, and the amount of weapons and situations you will find yourself in makes this mod 10000x better than SPv1. Whether is be being pinned down by a squad of jackals with needlers, ambushed by spec op hunters, or dodging a hailstorm of spiker shots, there is always a new way to go about the level. The scale of the battles is amazing, there are parts of AOTC where you will be with your squad of 10 spartans, vs maybe 35 covies, and it just gives off an epic feel, as seen bellow

Don't forget, allthough it is near completion, the brutes are still being worked on, so don't be quick to judge what you just saw. When the brutes are complete, we will do a huge news article, showing you the brutes from conception to completion. When will it come out, A release in may is probably pretty acurate.
You all have been wondering what has been going on with the MP maps. We are happy to say, that until the release of H2V, there should be a new or revised MP map out each week. Snow Grove is undergoing the last beta test tomarow, and Snowtorn Cove will be out soon after, followed by revised Fragments and Dissos. Also, Vestige, byfar the BEST MAP we have, is also nearing release. Watch the forums closely this week.

This looks very nice, I can't wait until the release in May (could you possibly make it the 10th?). Are you going to be showing us the Spartan-IIIs before the release, or is it going to be something that will remain a secret? I'm glad to know that there will be more Mp maps coming out soon. Anyways, good luck on finishing this.

That should totally be toned down.
Snow Grove... Snowtorn Cove... Fragments and Dissos... Vestige...
Gosh, you must have employed a huge team of talented mappers to make those fine maps. :cool:
Seriously though, please please please make sure these are polished and pretty before release. Snow Grove just needs torches and a final lightmap from what I last saw. Snowtorn Cove has been fine, so just make sure not to screw anything up in it. Fragment could use more polishing. I think people had issues with the lightmap. Also, add the swampthing (I think) lights in the side tunnels that have the teleports leading to the rocket launchers. Also, mess with the tileground bitmap so the tiles fit in with the rest of the stone and so the dirt looks better. For Disso, besides the problems that I think were fixed in the classic release, just make sure to polish the map and make it look better. As for Vestige, try your best to make it look good within the constraints of the framerate. I think some of the pillar textures may need fixed, as I think I FUBARed them accidentally. Delta Ruins? Tensity? Abandoned? Get someone to add some simple portals to DR and remove some scenery or other stuff to get the framerate up. Do whatever needs done to Tensity. I'm not sure if there's any way to get Abandoned up and running though.

I would think jackal/elite blood would be the best placeholder, nonetheless, i cannot get enough of the red blood. Is it possible to keep melee-ing the marines to get blood out of them like jackals, grunts, hunters, elites, and etc?

It obviously was done, and I said the flesh, too, smarty-pants.
In Halo 2, the Flood skin had more detail, more texture, and most importantly, more blue. ;)

Note: As stated earlier, the bowlegs are *because its easier to model/texture*, It *should* be corrected somewhat (unless I screwed up in making the armor too high on the hips) by animations. (Just like how his arms should never be in a T)

Dont have to see a lot of it. Just one. Look at the form from the underarms in relation to the head, compare that to the size of the feet, compare that to the angle of the legs to find the crotch, draw a line from the crotch to the neck, draw a line from shoulder to shoulder, draw a line from the left to right side of the hip, and you can tell a lot about the biped. It's evident that the rig will be changed, but a lot of the problem I'm speaking of is with the model. Looks like the legs together are twice the radius of the waist/hip.
I'm not denying it's a WIP and I dearly hope everything is, down to whatever is causing those lighting issues on the weapon shown. If you dont want comments, dont post content, Strider :p. It's a surefire way to get comments. And restating that it's a work in progress isn't a way to quell comments like these; revised content is.

The first couple of models were changed because it looked too human. I actually followed my reference images *more closely* the second time. (Taking into account the only good image I had was him crouched and at an angle to the camera.)
The original neck had the skull and jaw atop it like a human. It was changed to make it a longer neck with a more snake-like transition. This was at Masterz request and I'm glad he did.

Regardless, Dano made the texture, and 95% of a model's aesthetics are in the texture.
And I think it came out *very* well. Props to Dano. The geometry is just a skeleton for Dano's work, and it seems like the only beefs at the moment (besides the toe ambiguity) is with my part of the model (Geometry). So...

Are you telling me you modeled the whole Brute based off of images?
You didn't use the ripped placeholder Brute as a reference?
Edit: Another question... will the different Brutes spawn with armor (or at least helmet) variations, like the Grunts and Elites?
Edit 2: Wilson's contributions (Engineers, Sluggun, and suicide marines) haven't been cut out of the mod, right?

1) Yes I modeled the entire brute based off reference images -- and the Et Tu Brute viddoc in the side. Two reasons, the first being I was making a video tutorial for how to model (have a few hours of 1680x1050 AVIs in my computer. Had some glitches with audio on around a third of them... that and I stopped doing tutorials before the detail came in.)... the second being I didn't actually aim to make an accurate recreation of the Brute. I like Artistic License :)
2) No announcements yet, but Masters did say he got color permutations in. How much of an effect will they have? Will I model the alternative helmets in time for Dano to texture them and Masters to tag them (Exams end Friday)... who knows.

Wow, I love the new Elite Flood - very clear what host the infection form took over! Also looks very cool with the shiny armor / flood skin. I've always thought the Flood had a very dull / boring texture, this makes it look very cool!

They're pretty shiny actually.
You can't really tell from the screenshots, and the rendered playblast is a bad indication of specularity since I never installed the specular map on the Brute in the render. That would involve installing a cube map in Maya which requires a MelScript I didn't have immediately (One thing I don't like about Maya, they don't have the ability for Cubemaps out of the box... they expect RTR on everything).
Suffices to say, wait for the map :p
C'mon, its one of Master's babies, you should know it'd contain enough shine to giggle a recreational marijuana abuser.

and yes its a toenail, i put a tiny bit of specular on it, as with the fingernails but it looks like i put a bit too much on. The models proportions, from what I can tell are very accurate, all that needs fixing are the distance the legs are from each other. Bit too wide of a gap in the thighs.
It also needs the warthog cubemap, seriously.

**sentinels** is how to spell it. Actually, the monitors of the halos control the sentinels, like Penitent Tangent 2401 controls the ones on Delta Halo, and 343 GS controls the sentinels on Alpha Halo.

That makes no sense at all; flood inherit all of the strength of thier hosts. Even moreso, as they are almost invulerable to pain - as witnessed in their leaps across Two Betrayals. If the marine ore elite could hold the armor, so can the flood. Plus, the armor can't be very heavy to start, or it wouldn't be practical for battle.

The color varies based on rank (or more accurately, power of their weapon.)
The order is as follows :
Unarmored
Blue
Red
Gold
Black
White
Grey (active camo)

The flood combat human needs to have a hole in the chest where the infection form penetrated it. Also... get rid of the shoes, they look bazaar o.0
And it looks to pretty i mean maybe it should look a little more ripped up. Unless they were just infected then that would make a little more sense why the armor looks so new.

The infection forms go through the back of the neck, not through the chest. I agree with you on the ripped up/worn armor though.

The infection forms get in any way they can. In the book The Flood, an infection form tried to get into John between his helmet and chest plate in the front. But as long as they don't tap your spinal cord, your somewhat safe. (read the books, they do give valuable information)

The infection form tried to infect John through the back of his neck (I think I have read the book too many times, about 15 times each, maybe more:D ). The always go to the back of the neck so they can easily tap into the spinal cord, then they go into your chest cavity and take over your body.

Fast question, I sure you guys are going to have the SP in SPv2 but is it all final how long it's going to fire? If you watch this H3 Beta video towards the end the player uses the SP and as you can see the shot is very short and causes and overheat of some kind, something that is lacking in your version.

It's going to be the same as our mp maps. We are no longer adding content, except the Spartan 3. Everything is been bug fixed now. In H2, the SL will be redone to be as acurate as possible.

Oh my god that looks absolutely epic. I was a huge fan of the original Campaign mod you guys did, and this update looks absolutely orgasmic.

I only have one qualm with the flood elites with the armor: the armor is either completely sunken or is entirely outside, making it look like the armor is just slapped on.
I know I'm just being petty and stupid, but I think it would look the best if some of the armor plates were offset, partly absorbed, and/or had some flood-ness spreading over them.

this mod looks decent enough, nothing too big to say that hasnt already been mentioned.
varying colored elite armor is very cool. i dont think they need to modify the armor any, it looks fine right now. anything better would be to make the armor plates fall off when u shoot them, but that cant happen with the time given, so its good enough.
i also think infected spartans would be extremely cool. getting to play against shielded spartans that cant roll and dive (fuckin elites), but instead can pull a nice vertical, and just plain look cool.

ok flood spartans would be lame because they would
A: look bad if they were only reskinned
B: look bad using the normal flood animations
C:they would be a constant annoyance because of their shields. the only time you see flood with personal energy shields is in the maw.
D: and using a brand new biped in only one level is dumb, as is using them sparingly. so final judgement: flood spartans=:fail:

There could be such thing as a Spartan flood but:
A: Spartans would never take off their helmet in a combat zone.
B: They won't allow infection forms near them.
C: If one slips by they will eradicate it.
D: It's just lame.

i just kind of want to play against a spartan in campaign, but if it sux, then i guess it cant happen. i doubt masters would consider it anyway.
btw- what ever happned to the buckshot shotty? i remember seeing it in a video of fragment before release, then i neevr found ti in the map, or anywhere else ever.

You mean the slug-gun? Buckshot and a single slug are two VERY different things. Anyway, for a variety of reasons, we just didn't end up implimenting it.

Is that supposed to be a Spartan? Because there's only one known surviving Spartan at that time, the others are off in some other part of the galaxy doing who knows what. (or even worse, it could be a combat form with the "class XII combat skin" that Guilty Spark advised MC to upgrade to?)
edit: whatever happened to the Juggernaut flood? I remember seeing a thread in HCE General Discussion some time back, but it died long ago. are they going to be ingame?

It's an infected marine. Not a spartan. The armour is still intact though.

The "marines" with SPI armor are Spartan-3s. And as far as I know, they haven't been cut out.

the armor on the infected marines needs to be torn some, leave the plating as is tho, but i remember in h2 even those marines had torn fatigues
