View Full Version : [SOURCE] Black Mesa Delayed... Blargh...

Hello Black Mesa fans!

We come to you once again with an update. It's now the end of 2009, and we know many of you have literally counted the days down until this fateful month. We are floored by the level of support you have given us and are very excited we're so close to reaching our goal.

Unfortunately, to our great disappointment, Black Mesa will not make a 2009 release.

Cynics may now rejoice, bets may be collected, and I think a mod team member has to eat his shoe, but we hope our loyal fans will forgive us and realize that the delay will translate into a better final product that's (hopefully) more easily available to everyone.

Once again we apologize for what has to be very disappointing news. We placed a 2009 deadline on ourselves to motivate us and bring this 6 year project to a close. And while we didn't quite make it, we have come very close, and you can expect a complete, polished game to hit your hard drives in the near future. We'll be sure and update if anything changes. Until then, hang tight, it's coming!

They said they'd try to make the 2009 deadline, and if they couldn't they'd tell us. The fact that they waited this long before announcing the delay means that they are pretty dang close to meeting the deadline. I estimate no more than a month or two extra for the basic sp at least. The other gamemodes were going to take longer anyway.

Or it's all a trick and they'll release on Christmas so we may all have a very merry Christmas! :iamafag:

Did anyone really expect them to actually make the deadline?

Still, Valve would be proud of these guys

Least they could have done was make another trailer.

Ok, I'll stop making the BCE references.

...just one more.
BCE - storyline + shit modeling = Vertigo City

A deadline for telling the people you're moving the real deadline back.

So, is it possible or even probable that VALVe will hire the team responsible after they finally release it, and then start charging to BUY the mod as a standalone game? I mean, look at GMod and Narbacular Drop Portal.

You never know. I mean, they're already pretty experienced at delaying releases; a skill required for any Valve devs. Definitely possible.

If it's as good as it seems and they aren't bullshitting about the content in the game, they deserve it.

I don't think Valve will buy the mod. They might help the team distribute it via Steam, but usually Valve is a bit nicer than to wait until the very end and prevent people from getting it for free. Now, buying it and selling a version with some extra gadgets, while keeping the original free- that might happen. But I think the original release will always be free.

Hey waddya know, a cool Aussie mag featured BM:

(http://www.natedgreat3.com/htmlSite/Images/CGWmagIssue257.pdf)Don't worry about legalities here, the mag was cool with it being on the BM forum.

That's fairly old though. Australia's PC Powerplay magazine came out today with an issue directly talking about a build of BM that they were able to play.

I'm trying to find a place to download scans at the moment.

Siliconmaster

I'm not sure. I know the new one is a 6-page spread, and it has a lot of new pictures. Also, I don't see PC Powerplay anywhere on that pdf. *shrug*

Edit: I got a link to the torrent of the scans. I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to post it outright, but if people want they can PM me and get it- it's on Demonoid, btw.

Tell me you wouldn't buy it anyway. These guys deserve it, just like Garry and the Nuclear Monkey guys did.

I'd still buy it, absolutely, just like I bought Garry's Mod.

Kinda what I meant, just didn't word it out completely. It would be like GMod; you can get GMod 9 for free, but if you want all the bells and whistles, you buy GMod 11.

If I had the $$$ I'd buy a copy and scan it for you guys :saddowns:

PS. Gmod isn't worth the cash spent on the bandwidth to DL it. Buggy unstable slow crashhappy shit it is <:maddowns:>
