Were you accepted to college?
If so, where?

If you're out of college, where did you go?
If you're not in college or can't apply yet, where do you want to go?

I was just accepted to college and am very excited... I was accepted to BYU Hawaii.

I am so happy. Oh so very happy. :neckbeard::neckbeard::neckbeard::neckbeard:

I've got a lot of friends at Laurier including my best female friend. So I applied there, but I'm banking on riding out the lower tuition cost at UOIT for Digital Media.

If it doesn't work out, well, there's always the Canadian Forces. Right, Freelancer?

It's getting better now but yea, most of the buildings are pretty old and outdated, especially the Chem building. I got excepted to Duquesne but the price was way out of range so I went with Cal.

I picked Clarion for similar reasons. For me, Cal U was just too expensive, and entirely too far from home. Clarion is about an hour's drive on I-80 for me. Cal U is 3.

It's funny, you say there are a lot of "hot chicks" in Clarion but we seriously seem to be devoid of any hot dudes :(

Been attending Montgomery County Community College part time, mainly because I couldn't get a loan, fafsa, or a leg up from my high school.

Been working half time to pay for it, so it's getting done slowly. Lots of breaks to pay off the tuition, and lots of summer classes. It's all adding up though: two more semesters and a summer class and I should be through.

Degree + certs + 4 years practical = not fantastic but it's a start for an entry level.

E: actually read the last few posts haha.

I graduated from Full Sail as most of ye know.

Overall the school was rather swell, and the whole mac thing only bothers you for about two months which then you get used to them, and now most of us <3 our macs moreso than PC. (Not to start that fight, just saying that it's how it goes here)

Unfortunately, I have to spread rep before giving it to you again. Sad panda.

I too am looking at UAT after getting my Associates at the community college. Not digging the Mac-centric themes or lack of dorms of Full Sail, and the tuition for makes both Digipen and UAT look cheap.

I honestly couldn't give a shit about Macs, I grew up with them. Tuition isn't an issue I think, either, given I still qualify for federal financial aid when the time comes, plus I think I have a scholarship to be awarded based on some courses I took in high school...

Plus if that's what they're for, past design, I wouldn't mind learning how to develop for the Mac platform. The more you know...

Portfolio/Side Projects above all else.

Degrees are good for Salary negotiations from what I've heard, but if a company has a choice between hiring someone with a decent track record of making stuff versus someone with a degree and nothing else, more likely than not they'll go for the person without the degree because A) statistics show they don't get paid as much B) The company knows they are competent.

To be honest though, I haven't really look into this as much as I should have by now. Another thing to take into account is the college experience. Learning, meeting fun people, etc. can't really be priced...

Off topic/showboating here, but just some statistics:
I got into Digipen and UC Merced with a 3.1GPA. Ended up going with RIT because I decided I wanted to do something a little bit "broader" (I guess) in terms of content and also because RIT offered me a better financial aid package. Other things like cost of living factored in as well; Washington isn't the cheapest place to live in, especially if you have to live close to Digipen's campus (which is in Redmond, although I think they're moving it?).

Derp.

Well, yes. For me the point of getting a degree is to get into an environment where learning the tools and all is an accelerated process. The difference between those who want to do it and those who think they can get by with a degree is that those who want to really do it will take what they learn and get involved into projects (i.e. indie games and mods) outside of school. That's where your portfolio development comes in. Then they send you to GDCs and all, where you are expected to start networking. Fail to network, fail to get an internship/job. Fail to get an internship, fail to graduate. It builds on itself.

Also, developing on a Mac doesn't mean you are making games for OSX at all. You can code/model/texture/animate/mix for a Windows game just as well on OSX. C is platform agnostic, after all. Just might require a bit more work since those Windows libraries ain't there for easy access (not counting Bootcamp).

Nope. I just don't like using OSX. At all; window management sucks. Also being that a majority of people at Full Sail use Macs, that means if I need help or we need to work in a group (both are inevitable), then we've got a platform discrepancy.

You worry too much.

Everyone here knows how to use both mac and PC which is a lot more valuable than you'd think. I don't want this to turn into a mac vs pc thread, but all of your worries and such are entirely irrelevant. I switch between mac and PC several times a day, tossing files between them and such. I switch between my laptop(OSX) and desktop(WinXP) constantly, and if I ever need to use windows on my laptop it's not difficult to do so.

During final project (making my student game with the Game Development students) the ONLY reason why I needed windows was to export a few models using HAVOK's exporter. They don't have one for Mac... so I had to switch to my PC side to export some things... other students just stayed on their mac side the entire time.... didn't ever even install windows on their mac.

The only other time that I need to use windows is if I'm working with Unreal... which I prefer to use my desktop for anyhow... so *shrug*

As for the window management and such of macs, you just have to get used to it. It didn't make sense at first to me, but now I love how OSX does it.

If your primary OSX experience comes from a school environment where you're using a locked down computer that doesn't let you do very many things, then you're not really getting a proper experience. If it's your own computer it becomes a very very different situation.

TL;DR: Get over it, when you get out in the work force they might make you use Maya on a mac, rather than 3ds max on a PC. It happens... quit complaining and adapt.

This. If I had tried to hold my breath when they said I would be working with Pro Tools/Pro Logic, I'd probably be buried back at home, epitaph "And you thought Mac users were stubborn." I love the shit of out Windows/SONAR compared to the other OS's/programs, but I had to figure it out eventually.

I will always decline offers that include the use of FL Studio. Fuck that.
