Multiplayer mod for GTA3 that was released last month. Sort of like Multi Theft Auto 0.5, except the server browser isn't dead due to a bankrupt service, all weapons work including scoped weapons, dynamic aiming (Headshots are possible), every car is available, the hit detection is MUCH better, and the servers check for cheats/mismatches and support downloadable content.
I tell ya, you know it's a step up from Multi Theft Auto when you see somebody's head pop with a "HEADSHOT!" message through the scope of your sniper rifle.

Sadly, very few players at this point. I've seen a server with up to 10 people.

TOo bad this game is so old, or I might have actually reinstalled it.

Too bad this isn't for Vice City...fuck that soundtrack really makes me miss VC
I just bought the GTA bundle off Steam today...but I was never a real big fan of GTA3, so I don't think I'll be checking this out. I really love VC (where the Dodo plane actually has wings :ugh:) and San Andreas. In another universe, I'm modding the GTA engines. I like this universe tho.

dodo plane in GTA3 is very flyable... at least on the PC version. you can glitch it to do crazy shit. PS2 crashes when you do it.

people in servers flip out when they watch me do this shit.
also lol VC, I have the pop radio station on a CD in my car. good stuff... I definitely loved the soundtrack. The environments were pretty, too

When I was in school me and a friend were the only ones that seem to be able to fly the dodo but in the end i did teach a few how to fly it lol

San Andreas Multiplayer has been out for a while and is pretty stable why make a multiplayer mod for an older game??

Well, when one game has been out for a longer time, it gives developers more time to reverse engineer the engine. Plus there is less of a chance of an update (to a game which wasn't even MP to begin with) ruining these mods. Depending on how long ago the engine was made too, it could be less complex internally.
That's just my thinking anyway. If H2V wasn't a flop, I would have probably just up-and-left Custom Edition.
The real answer though is probably nostalgia. Some people just have a huge hard on over GTA3 than the other releases. Personally, I loved VC and SA. IMO, GTA4 marked a new GTA so I can't really compare it to the previous generation.

^ pretty much that
GTA3 gives me a hard on. so many good times.
also I prefer the weapons in this game, since they actually do more damage to other players.. it takes forever and a half to kill someone in san andreas with anything but dual shotties

Push it to the limit! (Limit!)~
Best song on GTA3 while your cruising in Liberty City.

VC was the GTA game that I spent the most time with. San Andreas was good, but I found the world too large for my liking. GTA 3 was too urban and dull for my liking. Vice City was colourful and fun and sexy.

SA's size was good for giving you variety. You could head to LV and speed 'round and 'round the strip, then jack a plane at the airport and fly over to the desert airstrip and get you a jumbofuckingjet, then fly out to hillybillywhoopsfuckedyoursister land and jump out with a parachute then blah blah blah blah.
But yea, VC was sexy fun.
