i have a wired xbox 360 controller that i use with my computer, but i want to buy another one because i fear this one may be approaching death, but im not sure if ALL wired 360 controllers work with pc. im seeing a wide variety of price ranges on amazon for wired controllers too, which doesnt help. when i searched google i read that older wired controllers dont work, but newer ones do, BUT some that arnt labled as "works with pc" will actually work with pc.

so the question is, do all wired 360 controllers work with pc? followup, if not, does anyone want to sell me theirs?

Practically all USB X360 controllers work on PC but not all PC USB controllers work on X360.
Wireless controllers don't work unless you have the wireless adapter [for some reason they didn't think making the USB charge kit working on PC would be a good idea...]

I bought an official Xbox 360 wired controller (I think it said works on pc on the box too), its the new black controller.

As long as its official MS it should work.

Don't get the charge&play controller package. The Windows drivers can't communicate with it :/

Which is what warlord was saying. There's no connections for the actual controller i/o system. The controller is still wireless, just charges through the cable.

Haha. I don't ignore anyone no matter how much I dislike their posting habits. It makes me feel like a retard when I don't see useful things somebody's already posted.

TBH I find the X360 wired controller really overpriced. Even the third party ones tend to be over $30, and have shabby build quality (I'm looking at YOU, madcatz).

Just get a Logitech or Saitek non-xbox PC gamepad. I've seen wireless Logitech models for $30 or less - and they're just as ergonomic and well-built as the first party 360 controllers, and probably have better D-Pads too.

If you want to use a gamepad on a game that only supports the x360 gamepad (i.e. Assassin's Creed or Batman Arkham Asylum), google tocaedit's xbox 360 controller emulator. I've used it on both a Saitek P3200 and a PS3 Sixaxis (how ironic) and it works very well.

You might need to do a bit of tweaking in the .ini file, but the savings are worth it compared to buying a 360 controller. And yes, you read it right - the game will be fooled into thinking an x360 controller is plugged in when you're actually using a half price PC-only model!

i want a 360 controller, otherwise i would have gone with another brand. i love the ergonomics of the 360 controller, and frankly i have never found anything that compares. most logitech controllers iv seen are shaped similarly to ps2 controllers, which i despise. but youre absolutely right that the 360 controllers are way over priced. thats actually why i posted this thread in the first place: so i could make sure the cheaper ones i found online would work with pc. i also wanted two identical controllers, and i already have one wired 360 controller.

this is ironically coming from the same guy who dropped 10 bucks on an SNES -> USB controller adapter

If the 360's design is your thing, I recommend either the Saitek Cyborg or the Saitek P3200. I have a P3200, it has the EXACT same shape and ergonomics as the 360's, just that the left stick and D-Pad are swapped, "playstation style". The Cyborg is the same, but the left stick and D-Pad are swappable - meaning you can actually change the gamepad from being PS style to Xbox style at will!

Of course, I understand that while the PC gamepad + TocaEdit emulator combo is cheaper, it can't actually be used on the 360 itself, so if you also need the controller to work on a 360 then there's no choice but to get the actual one.

Just stay far, far away from MadCatz controllers - I bought 2 wired ones at $30 each thinking it was a good deal, only for the triggers to break less than 3 months after. Hate to admit it but the overpriced first party one is probably the best choice.

well the thing here is that i need two technologically identical controllers for programming purposes. i already have one wired 360 controller, so i kind of need a second one with the same drivers so a program just has to change a number to reference one controller or the other. the 360 controller does everything i need it to do, and i found one for 15 bucks, so thats what im going to do.

Problem solved while looking awesome: Razer Onza (http://store.razerzone.com/store/razerusa/en_US/pd/productID.218523900/parentCategoryID.54297600/categoryId.54746700)

The thing is $39.99US, but god damn does that thing look great. I wonder if it performs well. Least the D-Pad makes sense. Works officially on both X360 and PC. I would assume that there are no Mac drivers for this, but hell, it just might work with some hacked 360 controller drivers for mac. Main downside is that it's corded (I doubt Microsoft allows proprietary wireless connections). But on the upside, the cord is 15 fucking feet long :D

I love the ergonomics and the general feel of the X360 controller over the PS3. When I first saw the 360 controller I thought the grey underside was made of rubber. I had an orgasm....backwards when I felt the plastic D: Still one of the best looking and most comfortable controllers I've ever used. I was going to buy one of the Razer ones to use but then I came upon a cheap PS3 Dual Shock 3 controller and picked that up instead.

You see, my iMac and Thinkpad have Bluetooth built-in so I take the wireless feature over the wired any day. Plus some Japanese awesome dude got rumble working almost 2 years ago so...not much incentive to grab the 360 controller anymore.

I may have to get that in the future

Hey cool, what kind of stuff are you doing exactly? Just curious.

At school one of my friends spliced a wired 360 controller into an actual diving submarine, and the thumbsticks actually did an almost-perfect job of controlling the diving and movements.

Check out the tournament version. There are a good few other features including backlighting on the buttons, adjustable thumbsticks, and a rubber surface.

Well my cousin and i are both on our school's FTC robotics team... or well, we are the robotics team, and i have all of our school's robotics stuff sitting in my house. we have an onboard brain that communicates wirelessly with a computer to receive controller input for controlling the various parts. right now we are using these (http://www.inchoose.com/images/v/201003/12679872550.jpg) controllers, and i hate them. i want to rewrite the class that handles controller input to use a 360 controller instead of these logitech ones. as an added benefit, i get an extra axis with the left and right triggers, which is excellent for controlling motor speeds.

basically, my cousin and i are looking into buying our own brain and some tetrix motors and milling our own parts instead of using the tetrix for the FTC competition, and i want to use 360 controllers for user input. i already have one wired 360 controller, and i want another identical one for the programming that way i dont have to write two different sets of code for two different controllers.

heres an old video of our robot way before it was finished if youre interested. this is from like.... i think early january. the final had alot more stuff going on, and the people driving the robot would have GREATLY benefited from the additional axis the 360 controller offers. i mean, we wouldnt have been able to use them during the actual competition, but it would be nice just to play with.

You can if you submit a request. If it has more than like... an hour or something left on it then you can. Or something like that. Go to customer support and search "Remove Bid" Then it'll ask you some questions.
