Two days ago, nobody had ever heard of Hawken, nor its developers Adhesive Games. What a difference an amazing debut trailer makes.
The clip blew people's socks off because not only did it look good, period, but it looked unbelievable for such a small indie studio. "The core team at Adhesive has six members", team leader Khang Le tells Kotaku. "We also have three interns on rotation, but they haven't been rotating much recently", he jokes. "So there are nine members total at the moment". (http://uk.kotaku.com/5780912/nine-guys-giant-mechs-and-2011s-sexiest-indie-game)

Looked awesome until the mechs showed up. Very jittery. It would make sense they'd fix that, though, so this looks really cool.

Mechs, meh

Environment looked nice though. Hope it isn't the only one they've been working on.

The environments look absolutely amazing, and so do the mechs themselves, but why are they so jittery? I hope that's on their to do list now if it wasn't already. I also hope the gameplay is more diverse than what's shown here. It looks like a bunch of bunnyhopping around goin LOL I ROCKET U.

To me the environment looks so amazing due to the fact the game doesn't have dynamic shadows (its all pre-rendered and baked), they do some stencilling work for the shadow of the mech's though.

Its why the explosions don't add any light to the environment, still with that said, looks incredible. Major props.

E: Just read the article, yea its all pre-baked which dampens the amazement quite a bit, but still I take my hat off to these guys.

I cant quite understand how they can afford to have 6 guys working 7 to 8 hours a day for 9 months.

To explain the chopyness on the mech's - "Yes, there is choppiness in the mech locations in the video, it’s because it was captured in slow motion with a spectator camera from demos recorded from network games. Actual network play looks fine." - hawkengame.com

Gameplay looks pretty dull so far. Basically what Con said.

Cant really tell if it is an FPS or a TPS or what. Some more details would be cool.

Doesn't really look interesting to me. All I see is 'hurr grafix'.

Its an FPS mech game apparently.

Would be cool if mechs were more a less just a side vehicle or something with more classic FPS gameplay, imo.

If the mechs were just some vehicles that player units can enter/exit then it wouldn't really be a mech game tbh

It would be neat to see, say, 4 mechs vs 8-12 foot soldier team fights, though.

He's just missing a hyphen.

Didn't like the mech designs much at first, but they're growing on me.

I never found mech games that fun, but you do have to commend them cause there is a fantastic attention to detail that actually looks good and accomplished with only a team of 9. Not sure how fun the game will be but their efforts are certainly admirable.

Wasn't there a Mech Warrior/Assault game which had huge battlefields and where you could fly planes, use exosuits, mechs, tanks, etc and fight in all of them? That sounded pretty awesome.

What happened to our own home-grown mechwarrior mod for Crysis?

That sounds like the Mechwarrior Living Legends mod for Crysis/Warhead.

They're still developing it.

Mech Assault garnered a lot of dislike from the MechWarrior/BattleTech community for essentially being a dumbed down/watered down version of traditional tactical gameplay. While I do agree with that, I still had fun with Mech Assault 1 and 2. I never had the chance to play Mech Assault 2 online, so I was saddened when the subsequent and heavily hinted at sequel never showed up...and when Day 1 studios was shut down. :|
