No not this Freelancer (http://www.modacity.net/forums/member.php?125-Freelancer), THIS Freelancer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freelancer_(video_game)).
Yeah I know it's an eight year old game but I'm playing it again and thought i'd see what you guys who have played it thought of the game back then and maybe even looking back on it now. After all the Chris Roberts hype about the game before Microsoft bought them out and then they released it in 2003. I remember hearing about it in like 2002 when I was SUPER YOUNG :downs: and been quite excited so... why did you guys think? And if you've never played it, maybe this could entice you too...
I'm recording myself playing it through aswell, bit of motivation to continue playing i guess - might actually fully finish it for the first time.

It's an amazing game imo, it's to bad the multiplayer is boring has heck unless you're on a totally modded server. I was hosting a server (http://lancersedge.servegame.org/FL/) that basically updated the AI and added the ability to buy ALL of the ships shown in the game from somewhere at some point, including gunboats, battleships, etc...
Again though, my internet connection is pretty shitty so the server didn't work out so well. I may throw it back up if you guys want to try out 88 Flak, I'll try to prevent myself from cheating to much as an admin and jumping straight into a Battleship haha. Or maybe I'll make an admin character that I can switch to with the cloakable Osiris...

I jumped into an Empty Multiplayer server so that i could learn some of the controls slightly before i played... but that didn't work out to well. It was very strange. I though't it was just like the same as Single Player but without the story missions?

Solid space combat shooter, but I found Tachyon had the better multiplayer and a more intriguing story.

It's exactly that, the problem is that your entire "vanilla" multiplayer experience on Freelancer is this:
Earn money to buy a better ship:
• Run trade routes.
• Do Jobs from various Bars.
All multiplayer lets you do is do those two things with friends. If PvP is enabled on the server the objective changes slightly from "Earn money to buy better ship" to "Earn money to but Very Heavy Fighter so you can PvP".
Flak 88 mod adds a lot of new stuff to the multiplayer experience like hire-able wingmen, fleet battles (because you can buy Battleships, Frigates, Gunships, Bombers, etc), player purchasable bases, ability to dock in other players Battleships and flyable stations, etc... Also, Flak 88 makes trade runs fun since you can buy cargo haulers and make millions each run :).
If you want to get some multiplayer footage I'm available to come play.

I recorded up to episode 8 in my first recording session so, but lot's of people have messaged and helped me out with combat tips and stuff i should be doing so my next recording sessions this weekend should go a little better haha!
EDIT:

I'm hosting a Freelancer server now! The game is pretty much abandon-ware, meaning it's impossible to find in stores to buy anywhere... Go "acquire" it by other means, PM me for help if you need to.
The server I'm running is using a mod that adds a lot of functionality to the game, more ships, wingmen, player purchasable bases, harder missions, etc... So to get started, here's what you need to do:
Install Freelancer (don't worry about updates/patches).
Install the Freelancer Mod Manacer (FLMM), available here: http://www.igx89.com/downloads.php?d..._v14_beta4.exe (http://www.igx89.com/downloads.php?download=FLMMInstaller_v14_beta4.exe )
Download and extract (double-click) the 88 Flak mod from here: http://www.memes.no/88flak/downloads...beta.zip.flmod (http://www.memes.no/88flak/downloads/beta/88flakv127_01-23-11_rc135_beta.zip.flmod)
Once extracted it should show up in FLMM, read the readme and then activate the mod and set all the options you want.
Launch the game, select Multiplayer -> Internet.
Filter the servers so it only shows builds you can join, select the Lancers Edge server.
Post questions in the appropriate thread on the Lancers Edge website (http://www.lancersedge.net/showthread.php?57-Lets-play-Freelancer%21&p=271). Amit has joined and created a new character successfully so I know the server is up and running well enough. It's running on separate hardware than the CE servers I'm hosting and doesn't require a strong Internet connection so it should be good to go!
I haven't played this game properly in years, and I've only dabbled in this mod before so we're all on equal footing when it comes to learning what to do here!

I've probably played more games in this category than anybody else on this forum, but right now I've got more games than I know what to do with that all need playing, including BF3 and the entire X series.

The single player is amazing, just a protip here though: Installing the mod will seriously fuck up your SP game if you started it, and disabling it will destroy your save games and you'll have to start over.
If you want to try the SP I suggest you do it before you install the mod for my server. I highly recommend the SP as well, this is one of the better games I've played.

Up to about 15~ parts now. Still encoding some of them and even with GPU accelerated encoding it takes about double the length of the part to encode at 1080p, so that's about 3 hours of encoding I have ahead of me.

Uploaded to part 16, which is all of what I have rendered in H.264 so far. Got another few hundred gigs of uncompressed footage in storage right now.
