All Ubisoft titles are 33% of, with even bigger deals per-day on a set franchise.

Monday: Prince of Persia (66% off Individual Titles, 75% off the Complete Pack!)
Tuesday: R.U.S.E and The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom
Wednesday: Trackmania United Forever Star Edition
Thursday: Far Cry and Far Cry 2 (75% off)
Friday: Brothers in Arms (75% off)
Saturday: Assassin's Creed I & II (66% off), Brotherhood (33% off)
Sunday:Tom Clancy Games (66% off)

Convenient! I was just thinking about getting an Assassin's Creed title. Which one should I get though when they go on sale?

Pyong Kawaguchi

All of them!
but if you get a single one, start with the first or second.

ODX

They all look nice, but people say AC1 was really repetitive. AC2 is improved, but then Brotherhood is the best of them all so maybe I should just skip right to there while it's on-sale.

if you care about story at all, youre going to want to start the AC series from the beginning. a lot of shit kind of wont make sense if you just jump in. and honestly, the repetition of ac1 did not bother me at all. if you like sword fighting, youll like ac1. it changed my fucking life, lol.

AC1 was excellent, play the rest if you like draconian DRM.

Amit
May 23rd, 2011, 10:26 PM
DRM was removed from them, no?

Cortexian
May 24th, 2011, 08:20 AM
It's still there but in a lessened state. You don't need a constant internet connection to play them anymore, it only verifies once for AC2 and it verifies at certain points/increments of time during Brotherhood from what I've seen/read.

NullZero

Even though AC2's storyline was constantly fresh, I felt like more of a baddass playing as Altair - Ezio feels like a bit of a pushover.

Cortexian
May 24th, 2011, 09:57 AM
Have you played Brotherhood? Ezio is just as badass in Brotherhood IMO.

NullZero
May 24th, 2011, 12:03 PM
I haven't gotten around to getting Brotherhood yet, but now it's mentioned, perhaps I should order.

PC vs Xbox 360 - apart from the graphical differences, which one should I get? I'm used to AC1 & AC2 on the 360, so peripheral differences aside, are the mechanics the same in brotherhood? I saw some mention of free look?

Cortexian
May 24th, 2011, 12:25 PM
There has always been free look in the PC versions if you're talking about what I think you're talking about.

Mr Buckshot

I think Brotherhood is not eligible for the Ubisoft Week discounts. It says "excludes IL2 sturmovik cliffs of dover and assassin's creed brotherhood".

I bought the World in Conflict pack for $13, and probably won't get anything else as I already own most of what appeals to me from Ubisoft. So far, sunk 6 hours into it.

For potential Splinter Cell Conviction buyers, beware that the game is still quite buggy, DRM or no DRM, and sadly the 360 version is probably the safest bet. I've lost count of how many times the game simply froze on me and refused to even let me alt tab or ctrl-alt-del, forcing me to power off and reboot. I actually gave up halfway and grabbed a pre-played 360 version in the end. Plus, in my opinion the gameplay was a huge letdown compared to the older games. Would recommend a pass.

For those who haven't played the older SC games up to Double Agent, I recommend getting them now! Same thing for RB6 Vegas and its sequel (I didn't like the gameplay of the older RB6 titles but Vegas was a really good change).

Well since Brotherhood isn't onsale I think I'll go with AC1 then since it'll be like...$5 then or something. I completely forgot about Splinter Cell though, those seem fun. Which would of those would you recommend getting?

All of them are awesome except Conviction. To be fair Conviction tried to be what RB6 Vegas was for the RB6 series, trying to appeal to a broader crowd, so maybe I'm just overly biased. It's also pretty damn buggy.

Chaos Theory was the best IMO, and I know many who agree with me on that. The SP has a lot of replayability. If you have a friend who's interested, tell him to grab a copy too and play their one-of-a-kind co-op mode. Start off playing the first SC though, because the awesomeness of Chaos Theory will make all the others feel like letdowns.

Unfortunately, one of the star games in the SC series (Pandora Tomorrow) is not on Steam. I don't know if it has anything to do with it being produced by a different Ubisoft studio from Montreal, but it's a real shame. Still, grab it from the bargain bin at the store if possible.

If you get one Splinter Cell, get Chaos Theory. Oh my god, I wasted so much time in that game's campaign alone, and let's not start on Multiplayer.

If you can, get Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory together. All the rest of the games are just filler.

Fake E: Yeah, Pandora Tomorrow isn't on Steam. Probably because its multiplayer was literally ported over to Chaos Theory by Ubisoft.

Mr Buckshot
May 24th, 2011, 05:03 PM
Agreed, if you get only one SC game, then it has to be Chaos Theory. Just to add, the versus mode multiplayer has a steep learning curve but it's incredibly satisfying to be able to kick the mercenaries' asses as Shadownet spies.

Mercs take more skill to play as if sensors are disabled (and they usually are). Spy has all the advantages, all the Merc can do is shoot.

your steam client and the big store tab, better yet why are you actively using your computer and buying stuff from steam (assuming credit or debit card) while a virus is on your computer.

What is the difference between Trackmania United and Trackmania United Forever? I have United already.

Fffffffffffffffffff

I miss Trackmania Nations. I remember making a 15 minute long track that split off into other tracks with a whole bunch of loops, sideways loops and other stuff, that I unfourtunately never got to show anybody. :(

If only I had more hard drive space...

Im not doing either. I don't even have Steam on this computer. My bro has an account though (we share one) and I like to know what's on sale. Im not making any transactions right now over the net. That would be foolish. I haven't gotten rid of the virus because I am reformatting in like 2 weeks anyways. I only use it for YouTube/Word Processing/Foruming at current time. This thing couldn't even run a real game. I have like 2 Gigs in ROMs and thats all.

Damnit, still no Tom Clancy day, but Far Cry 1 is a great game (when Crytek actually cared about PC gaming) and at $2.50 it is a must-have for those who overlooked it before. Far Cry 2 is more flash than substance (damn those stupid respawning guard posts argh) but still has one of the best graphics engines I've seen. It scales fairly well too.

I really like Far Cry 2. I agree that sometimes it was kinda terrible, but there were some awesome moments with IEDs, flare guns, and random AK spraying.

i absolutely loved farcry 2. i agree that they definitely could have done more with it, but there is a lot of fun to be had with that game.

farcry 1 is awesome too. im playing through it right now. i bought it back when they had the sale in like... february or whatever. even if you dont want farcry 2, $2.50 for farcry 1 is an awesome deal. the game is hard as fuck though, so be ready for that. the silenced mp5 on single shot is definitely your friend.

You guys must not have finished the game then.

Mr Buckshot
May 27th, 2011, 10:31 AM
Actually, I did, only because I was already at 50-something completion by the time I was getting sick of FC2's cheap mechanics, so I was like, might as well go all the way to the end. Trick is to avoid using the roads as much as you can and just drive on terrain, unless you need a quick ammo refill. That way you skip most of those annoying patrols and guard posts.

I'm about to spend $10 on the BIA games... ugh, this is the problem with these Steam sales -- the temptation to buy is so great, yet the incentive to actually get around to playing all these by-gone games is so small. And if I don't play the games, it's like I'm flushing that $10 down the toilet. Dilemma.

Mr Buckshot
May 27th, 2011, 03:39 PM
I try not to buy games that I know I won't immediate play right away. The only exception was Counter Strike Source because I couldn't opt out of it in my package deal >.<

Amit
May 27th, 2011, 04:23 PM
BUY Hell's Highway! It's the best BiA game yet. Graphics are great, it's a 1st and 3rd person cover-based shooter. Nice gore, VIBRANT as fuck visuals. Just amazing.

ODX

The day I've been waiting for!

Assassin's Creed I and II are both 66% off, and Brotherhood is 33% off!
$6.80, $10.20, and $33.49 respectively!

Pyong Kawaguchi
May 28th, 2011, 12:26 PM
get them all :3

Amit
May 28th, 2011, 12:55 PM
I don't like the first two BiA games simply because it's hard as hell hit anything even when aiming down the sights. The only good thing about those games are the story and acting. Well, for the most part it is pretty good. Hell's Highway blew me away, though, when I first played it two years ago. It's just superb and the multiplayer is pretty fun. I haven't seen cover based game like this on the PC that is still primarily 1st person in MP. I wish it could be full third person like Star Wars Battlefront games, though.

Cortexian
May 29th, 2011, 12:45 AM
So they lied about Brotherhood not being on sale.

ODX
May 29th, 2011, 09:46 AM
No, they didn't lie. They said it was excluded from the main sale where everything had a price drop, but not excluded from its own sale which we had and are still in.

Edit: All Tom Clancy games are 66% off today!

Amit
May 29th, 2011, 12:43 PM
LOL, anyone ever notice how the graw 2 logo looks as if it's saying Ghost Recon 2: Advanced Warfighter, even though it's actually Ghost Recon (4): Advanced Warfighter 2.

Mr Buckshot
May 29th, 2011, 12:51 PM
Hell yeah, grabbing me some Tom Clancy titles now. This was the day I was waiting for!

Amit
May 29th, 2011, 12:59 PM
I'd have to look for my GR 1 discs. Hell if I can find them in my closet. GRAW1 I bought when it first came out. I wasn't too impressed with it. GRAW 2 I downloaded for SP. MP you can get onto if the serial key hasn't already been banned on a server. There are better MP games to be playing. It was fun, but the PC version's environments are drastically dumbed down from the console versions of the game. The other additions are great.

I've been waiting sooo long for RSV2 to pop up on the store for under $5. Yesssss.

Might also pick up Splinter Cell 5 if I have the time.

I got 2 free copies of Vegas 2 from Sapphire Select Club Gold over a year ago. I still have an unused CD-Key lol. If I knew you wanted the game I would have gave you the key.

For what it's worth, Splinter Cell Conviction was one of my favorite games of last year. I just really loved how brilliantly they leveraged the established stealth into the new combat focus. And fucking mark-and-execute is the best thing ever. The campaign is entertaining and uses novel techniques to get the story across better than any Tom Clancy game has ever dreamed, and if you want a more measured, traditional, puzzle-y SC experience, deniable ops is great fun by yourself or with a buddy.

I picked up Double Agent, because I skipped that one. I hope it's not too tough to go back after having come to love Conviction.

MXC
May 29th, 2011, 04:03 PM
I heard some rumors that Michael Ironside sounded like a fat old man in Conviction, or is it not that noticeable?

ejburke
May 29th, 2011, 04:58 PM
It was a running joke on the Giant Bombcast that he sounded drunk, but even looking for that going in, I really didn't notice. He just sounds Canadian to me. Then again, I've always thought that MI's voice is too road-weary for a character that still has a full head of dark hair and an athletic build.
